My two cents worth The award was/is designed to honor excellence in all three apscts-- football, academcis and community. The spirit of the award is what is so special and wonderfual abouf D3. Let's hope the voters remember this balance of athletic, academic and community service when they cast their ballots and do not turn this into a "just football success" award.

That seems to sum up Brett Elliott very well....not only is the guy a great football player but has been very involved in the Linfield and McMinnville community.

if the Gagliardi were striclty a "on the field" award, it should go to Elliot. But since it isn't supposed to be, how does he stack up in academics and community service, the other 2 criteria-

here's the non-football part of the summary of Elliot's nomination:
"worked with the Linfield Review campus newspaper and campus radio station KSLC...served a summer internship with KFXX radio in Portland...served as a speaker at freshman colloquium and volunteered as a weekly tutor and mentor to an at-risk fifth grade student for nine months. "

let's see.....an internship (wow) at a radio station....working on the school paper (another wow)--- both things ANY Communication major does or should do

I'll give him a brownie point for the metoring program. Helping out in one program isn't an unusal level of "excellent community service", IMO... Wildcat, here in the MIAC we have dozens of kids in all sports who are involed in several programs like that simultaneously, so its nothing to gte blown over by.

But since Concordia is going to ruin the end of his college football career, if he needs a consolation prize.....

Perhaps the Linfield faithful should sponser an award for the best athlete who doesn't do enough community service.  We can have a bronzed Wildcat11 doing something other than helping someone....maybe with a beer in his hand and his helmet in the other.  This award of course wouldn't be eligible for anybody in the MIAC, especially a Johnnie, because they are all far too well-rounded and refined for something like this.   ;D

Seriously though, all of the guys nominated are probably great guys on and off the field.  If they didn't fit that qualification would they even be nominated in the first place?

AnotherJohnnie

According to what Pat posted from the award criteria, since Elliot is the top performer, the award should go to him.  All that other stuff is meant to "break ties" only.  I was disappointed to read that, but I don't doubt the accuracy of what Pat posted.

ZIP,
I'll be holding down the seats. Wish I were with you guys. Don't know who will be standing in for you as KR will be at a wedding.

HAPPY THANSGIVING TO ALL

How about the WIAC would our PE and General Education Majors be eligible for this new award?

Kubiak,

Any DIII player from a public school is automatic eligible regardless of the community service they do!

oldrat,

Thanks for clarifying maniac's lack of SJU affiliation.  I apologize for assuming.  You were quick to send out that disclaimer.  I guess you don't want anyone else confusing him with a Johnnie.

hey corncobb,
The only joke is you my man, you crack me up.  The Cats are electric.  They will run your boys off of the field on Sat.  They will easily put 50 on the board.  The Butcher and his boys are ready to rock the cobbers.  They WILL make a statement at the expense of your boys

Phone it in, Its in the bank

   Gig Harbor Cat

???

Well I don't know about making that phone call just yet Gig. Either way, even if you see the promised land this year or even the third round for that matter (where you would most certainly meet your end by the hands of SJU) there will be no story book ending for your team.  Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to hurt your feelings pal, but all-star teams fail because you rely soley on an idividuals talent, we dont need the best players, or even your D-1 reject Elliot, we've got the RIGHT players.  The Cobbs are for real, and as far as being electric against them, you might want to think again.  We could care less about being on the road for Thanksgiving or intimidated by your catdome or fans, we see that from the Johnnie Rats every year. You can keep your facts and stats for all I care, we've got something you dont have, and that my friend is HEART.  You will be suprised, Mark My Words.    You won't see me on Saturday, but I would have loved to meet you, this is how we do it here at CC!

Go Cobbers! Go Johnnies!

From www.warkhawkfootball.com:
QuoteAll alumni, former football players and just plain fans are invited to stop by the big white tent adjacent to the stadium prior to Saturday's game for a FREE WARHAWK TAILGATE CELEBRATION. There will be FREE Beer, Pepsi, hot dogs and chile available in the tent from 10:30 a.m. to kickoff. The food and beverage is compliments of the UW-Whitewater Alumni Association, Chartwells, Pepsi, and Warhawk Athletics.

Free beer?  Nice.

As you know, ROR, it was more of a case of having taken a few classes at SJU & spending 4 yrs on the campus there already that I wanted to experience the real wrold, something beyond my native Stearns County...(fortunately, my dad is from Meeker County, so no SCS)  :)

Rockcat-- no one is saying your boy isn't a good candidate or even worthy of winning... like I said before, I'd like to hear some reasoning WHY, in accordance with the criteria is all.

Why are you so hostile the minute anyone dares to not tremble in awe of all this Linfeild-ian?  Relax a little, life is too too short to be so hostile.

Duffman,

You do have a nose for beer.

Do you think wearing red SJU clothing would eliminate us from eligibiity?   :'(

How do we get SJU to institute such an advanced practice.  WIAC IS the
best conference.   :D

Gig go ahead and phone it in... Fighting CObb you wonder why you dont get any respect... well its because you dont show any.  Why dont you quit hugging on Big brother (SJU) This little quote by you makes it sound like SJU has a bye this week... (where you would most certainly meet your end by the hands of SJU)  nice I hope the cats crush you guys by 70

SUMMIT!!!!!

oh c'mon 78.....the last thing a Cobber would do hug a johnnie...that would be like UWW depending on UWSP for leadership   :)

Concordia has a very talented team, and will be Linfield's toughest challenge. If they play defense like they did vs SJU, they have an excellent chance in any game, anywhere and that includes vs LC, UWW or SJU.

I just hope no one on any of the four teams gets hurt.....which reminds me, does anyone have any updated info on Monmouth's Morrrison?
