Wondering if anyone read this article. I was at the UW-Lacrosse/UND game on Saturday and Lacrosse got a few plays off and were physical on defense. The Sioux jumped out early because of some great field position at the beginning of the game, and just shear size on both sides of the ball.

When I was at UST we played UW-Stout twice and the size and physical nature of the Blue Devils were something we were not as used to (I mean, it seemed that way from my view on the sidelines). I agree somewhat that private schools need to step up and play them. I know SJU has played Eau Claire quite a few times the last few years and UST maybe making a step in developing a relationship with some WIAC teams in that they scrimmaged Eau Claire this year.

Oh, and nice boat Duffman.

Bench,

Welcome back.  Good story.

SJU has been scheduling a WIAC team since at least 1999 (when I returned to Minnesota) first Eau Claire and now River Falls.  I'd like to see SJU keep a WIAC team in the schedule.  There have been some pretty good games.  And Eau Claire, River Falls and Stout are all reasonabale drives.

Nice boat Duffman.

We also throttled UW-Whitewater in the 2002 preseason :)

Oh, and nice boat Duffman.

I played my first year of college ball at UWEC (97-98 school year).  Comparing those guys to the guys at Olaf where I was the following year, the UW school's players seemed to be MUCH larger.  Our O line that year (at EC) averaged right at 300 lbs, and our D-line was huge as well.  However, the thing that I remembered most from that year is that there didn't seem to be any defense played at all.  Now, that could have been exclusive to the EC team, and the games we played in.  But, our homecoming game vs. Stout was like 50 something to high 40's something for stout.  Just a total track meet. It also could have been attributed to the cover 7 we liked to play (cover 4 to one side, cover 3 to the other) that I still don't conceptually understand.  I get a cover six (4 to one half, 2 to the other), but the mathematical breakdown of that missing portion not accounted for left us getting burned and burned badly by the deep post to the cover 3 side.

I do agree though. The year that I spent at EC left me to believe that the UW schools were manned by larger human specimens, yet that did not necessarily lead to better football teams.
Out of order, I'll show you out of order! You don't know what out of order is, Mr Task! I'd show you but I'm too old, I'm too tired, and I'm too f----n blind. If I were the man I was 5 years ago, I'd take a FLAMETHROWER to this place. Out of order, who the hell do you think you're talking to?

I think that was definitely true of WIAC teams then -- there was a lot of size but not a lot else going for them. Lately I think the size has been similar but the guys playing are a lot more talented.

I remember seeing UW-Stevens Point at St. John's in 1999 and thinking they were just too big for their own good.

Well, it might have something to do with the lack of Division II teams in the greater Wisconsin area. It seems if you're not a Badger you just go play for one of the local squads.

Of course UND does seem to have a few Wisconsin boys on their team.

Tmerton, things were fine with Life Safety on Saturday. Hopefully we are off to a fresh start.

Please note this is post number 666 for me, so it is possible something has come over me...Rev 13:17 "And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name."

My first ship in the Navy was the USS Black, a destroyer with the hull number 666.  So I was marked a long time ago - which may explain a few things, including the commercials running over all the kickoffs. ;)

I always want to get sent to the USS Hawkbill, SSN-666.  It wasn't to be though, but I did wear 666 for several years playing softball.

Congrats on the boat Duff.  The way the webcast sounded Saturday those attending the game may have needed it.

I hope they do better there than the T-Wolves at Target Center.  :P

I'm guessing he'd have preferred Laurie.

Fights have become much less prominent in hockey over the past few years. What about the dustups in baseball and basketball? The U of Miami has probably had as mant fights per game as The Wild.

For me, I love the fights.  Shows grit.  As long as we don't have more than two or three dust ups in a game, then I'm loving it.

My favorite hockey memory involves fighting.  I can't remember the players names anymore, but I went to match at the Met between the Stars and Detroit.  Two brawlers, playing on the wings, had returned from 15 game suspension for fighting.  They lined up on each other at the face off, dropped gloves as the puck dropped and were both ejected just 13 seconds into the game.  After the crowd finished going nuts, the rest of the game was pretty good as the fight got out of the way early.
