Just want to state, for the record, no relation.

I was wondering how long it would take and what the response might be.

You could be related to one of the two pictured Coleman's, no?

I think that was definitely true of WIAC teams then -- there was a lot of size but not a lot else going for them. Lately I think the size has been similar but the guys playing are a lot more talented.

I remember seeing UW-Stevens Point at St. John's in 1999 and thinking they were just too big for their own good.

Rumor has it you were at the Augsburg/Wartburg game Saturday night.  Any validity to the claims I heard?
Out of order, I'll show you out of order! You don't know what out of order is, Mr Task! I'd show you but I'm too old, I'm too tired, and I'm too f----n blind. If I were the man I was 5 years ago, I'd take a FLAMETHROWER to this place. Out of order, who the hell do you think you're talking to?

SJU has been scheduling a WIAC team since at least 1999 (when I returned to Minnesota) first Eau Claire and now River Falls.  I'd like to see SJU keep a WIAC team in the schedule.  There have been some pretty good games.  And Eau Claire, River Falls and Stout are all reasonabale drives.

We also throttled UW-Whitewater in the 2002 preseason :)

Yup and Mt. Union throttled them in 03 in a preseason game, 40-17.  Brez commented after the Muc match up that he and his staff decided it was time to see what a top team in D3 looked like.  Seems the theory worked.  +karma, Bench.  It is a crying shame that LAX had to play a D1 to get a 10 game schedule for the first time in several years. Unfortunately, I see the Hawks future.  Leipold posted for a game on a D2 website this off season and no takers so had to play UWEC twice.    In all fairness, Lakeland and St. Norberts have taken their turn playing UWW over the last 4 years. Like to see some teams in the CCIW step up as well as a few more in the MIAC besides the Johnnies.

Oh and, nice boat, Duff!

Yes. Mentioned on the blog Saturday night and in the ATN Podcast this morning, including a postgame interview.

Did UWW play MUC in 2002 and 2003?  I remember they scheduled MUC and SJU in 2002.  Got their arses handed to them in both games, but it seemed to work out in the long run! :D

Ok - Cobbers are up this week.  I wouldn't presume to ask any of you johnniefootball.com all-stars to preempt your preview this week, but I think it will be a brawl.  An unexpected break-out from CON and a last minute affair yet again.  Will our air game be enough? Yes, I think it will, but it will be exciting.

BTW, I don't think it has been mentioned yet, but SJU are now posting live stats of games.  A nice contribution to the Interwebs effort.  I must make sure to go to be early on Saturday so as to not fall back asleep this weekend.

RF was not impressive Saturday. I don't know what the lack of a game under their belts did to their performance, but the Johnnie D appeared to have a lot to do with the poor offensive showing of RF., including holding Zweifel to two catches. I thought the point differential could have been  bigger. The first down discrepancy actually showed the success of the J. offense. John O'Grady told me before the game that people under rate the J defense, instead giving ink/talk to the offense.

Still, it's too early to say whether RF is better or worse than last year. I'm told that the series with SJU will be replaced with one with UST, but I don't know whether the scheduled fourth game, at RF next season, will be played before the UST series begins. I would prefer we continue to play SJU.

I got a bit tired of the PA announcer's "THAT'S A JOHNNIE FIRST DOWN!"  but I would have liked it had i been a Johnnie fan.

Good luck to the Johnnies the rest of the way.

What I dislike about hockey is fighting.  Sure, fighting is fun to watch if you're talking boxing, wrestling, etc.  But it just seems like it's not part of the game.  The purpose of the game is to skate and put the puck in the net.  Fighting, to me, shows a lack of discipline.  It would be like clocking someone in a football game.

Honest question, Duff: Do you think there would be less Bethel bottom-of-the-pile grabassing or Augsburg after-the-whistle heroics if those players (or their teammates) knew that they would have to pay for those kinds of plays by fighting the other team's "enforcer"?  Because obviously there's a reason for fighting (or the threat thereof) in hockey, to protect the skill players from goons taking unnecessary shots at them.

Just want to state, for the record, no relation.

My wife is heavily into genealogy and has made surprising finds (and had distant relatives pop out of the woodwork).  The safer statement is "no known relation! :D

Norm Coleman's family changed its name from something else a couple generations back. Plus, my dad has done the family genealogy starting seven generations ago when the first came over from Ireland.

Yup, played MUC and the Johnnies in 02 and opened the 03 season with MUC again.  Guess it is true what they say about how,  "to be the best, you have to beat the best!"  8)

With near identical conditions to last year's drubbing of the Cobb I expect another decisive win by the Johnnies.

I understand that, starting with this week's game with the Cobbers, they're going to merge game announcements with advertisements, to wit ... "If you turn to page 53 of your program and find "That's another Johnnie First Down!" in red on your Danny's Dopey Pizza ad, you've won two free breadsticks and a bottle of Diet Coke with your next order of Danny's Dopey Pizza.  First down Johnnies!"
