That's hilarious Oz.  I think that's where I'd change my name or go by "M insert middle name Litoris"

All the time Koefed was QB, he evidently listened to play calling only by Jimmy.  He would not take charge of the field and call his own plays like QBs before him.  Apparently, that's how it is now too.  Is it just coincidence that in the past 4 years and 3 games the offense looks average to slightly above or is it because all of the plays are coming from Jimmy now?  When I've spoken with parents of players in previous years, they say that Jimmy has been the one making the calls and that Alex never really had it in him to tell Jimmy to shove off and call his own plays.  Before Koefed, the QBs usually told Jimmy to ram it and called their4 own plays based upon what they were seeing on the field.  Is that art form lost now at SJU?  I don't wish to Jimmy-bash.  He was a good guy back in college, from what I remember and, obviously his knowledge about fb and coaching far exceeds mine.  However, I can't help but ponder this and think that it is true.

faunch — A team won as huge underdogs on the road at the toughest place to play in the league, their contingent (who drove 3 hours) presumably goes nuts and said fans are suddenly cocky a-holes? Really? Cmon now...

familyguy — Love the report. I got much the same rundown from a former Ole a few hours back. Sounds like it was a classic!

That said, I have to disagree with one point. That Schwingler guy is actually pretty weak. Isn't he faking some sort of injury right now? Who does that? Without actually breaking down film, I'd bet he gets lucky most of the time...

(Just joking. I know the Schwingler family...his smarter siblings went to Gustavus.)

I was verbally berated and harassed by some clown for about 5 minutes during the 1st quarter and the other stuff I heard from some of their fans was out of line.

How do you explain the 300+ yards of offense, as opposed to the Cobbers180?
How in the hell did we ever get 300 yards of offense?  Pick a friggin QB and live with it!

Working the phone lines to the www.JohnnieFootball.com gang it appears this is the consensus.
But which one?
Abbas?
Gabrielson?
Welch?

Not much that hasn't been said.  The Cobbers were good, but not that good.  I don't see them running the table.  The MIAC race will be interesting this year.  The Johnnie offense is in a state of disarray.  Sad to see.  The offensive line play was miserable.  Oh well.

On a positive note, the Koolaid was excellent.

A tradition unrivaled...

Thanks to everyone who attended the Stiftungsfestivities yesterday and for all the donations for Todd Fultz. Cobbernation, the sweet corn was excellent. Fins, thanks for bringing the propane heater.

Congrats to the Cobbers for the win. So frustrating to watch from the Johnnie side. I can only assume Bethel and St. Thomas are feeling the same today. Oh well, it is on to GodSaveUs next Saturday for the Johnnie homecoming.

6 am here, and stanbob reminds me to have my coffee and Bailey's this morning. Sorry stanbob, I'm out of Bailey's, so, time to crack that first beer. It's great to be alive. (I think I hear cows talking!)

6:45 here Flash, I am sticking with the Bailey's this morning, had my fill of beer last night trying to wash away the taste of the Vik.., er Johnnie offense out of my mouth.
Everyday is payday in paradise.

SJU09

I can't remember the last time St. John's was three games into a season and the offense looked this bad and had so many question marks. Since the 2003 season the Johnnies have not had a team that was as good or as dominate as some of the great teams that played from 1989 – 2003.  We definitely have not had the 1-2 great players on our offense (skilled positions) that seemed to separate us from the rest of the MIAC.  It's been 5 years now since Blake Elliot, that isn't just a year or two – something has changed.

CCKnight

I'm so glad I was able to witness the knights take down Bethel again yesterday on a beautiful sunny Bethel homecoming.  Great win by the knights and this time there wasn't any trickery, etc. to win the game, they just flat out beat them.  Still some things to work on as the knights left a couple of touchdowns on the field in the first half and dropped some balls that should have been caught, it could have easily been 17- 0 or more going into the half.  Bethel played hard and showed determination in coming back and taking the lead again after half time (which had me pretty worried as I've seen many a Carleton game collapse at that point), but the knights kept fighting and took the lead and held it.

Bethel did not really impress me that much, Flannery is a pretty good back, very quick and slippery, but the running game in general wasn't as dominant as it has been in the past.  Losing Wetzell to graduation seems to have hurt the royals quite a bit as their inexperience at QB hurt them with int's, etc.

The knights receivers are going to do well this year.  I don't think anyone can match up with Frank at 6'5" 220 something, there are a lot of times it seems they can just throw up a jump ball to him and he'll come down with it.  Both Frank and Gardner do a good job of turning slants, quick passes into bigger gains by being able to break tackles.  I wasn't sure what to expect this season and it is still way to early to tell too much, but with the way things are going in the conference early this year the knights are in a pretty good spot having a Sr. QB with experience and two all-conference caliber Sr. WR's.  Experience at the helm seems to be the name of the game this week.

CC Backer

Morning gents,
Just reading through some of the posts about the behavior of the Cobber fans yesterday.  I wasn't at Clemen's Stadium myself but it sounds like Johnnie fans didn't get a lot of respect from CC fans during or after the game.  For that I apologize.  This match has been, in my eyes, CC's best MIAC rivalry game especially the last 5 years or so.  For lots of reasons but the biggest one is the fact the that two programs have tremendous respect for each other.  And in my four years of games againts SJU I never heard a bad word spoken about either side during or after the game from CC or SJU.  I hope that the fans yesterday realize this and don't let it happen again.  I can see getting crazy when you walk out of Clemen's Stadium with a W, as I myself was a part of a victory there in 04, but you have to keep it respectful.  When a handfull of fans act like that it gives the college a bad rap, and that is inexcusable.

As for the game....it was another Cobber Johnnie slugging match.  With the exception of last seasons Cobber sluttering in Collegeville the recent games have been defensive games, like yesterday.  I think that CC has the "ability" to run the table, however, they have to get some kind of passing game going if they want a shot at the MIAC crown.  I was happy with the defense yesterday.  Giving up 300+ yards isn't great, but we've always had more trouble with the passing game, and the D bent but never broke, so that was nice to see.  Next week's game against BU is big now.  CC should've beaten the Royals last year at the Jake, and I don't believe they are as good as they were a year ago.  But I'm also not sure where to rank the Cobbers yet either so it will be an interesting game.  As for the Johnnie's....wow....3 QB's?!?!? that isn't gonna get it done.  They need to go with one guy, and get whoever it is some confidence.  Also their running game was nonexistent.  Obviously SJU has lived through the air durring their success, but they have always had respectable ground game to go with it.  Finally, WTF was the O-coordinator thinking on the Safety play!!!  that one left me scratching my head.
This first weekend is going to make for an interesting season in the MIAC.  Good luck to all as the season continues!!

CC backer - Can you please define "sluttering in Collegeville" for us? ;)

CCKnight - Keep an eye on FY Brett Watson. He'll be a factor down the road, if not later this season.

sfury - 1997 was before my time, but I'll take your word on it. 2004 was the only time I know where the Johnnies weren't huge favorites every Saturday.

Off to play the Harlem Ambassadors pretty quick here...hopefully I don't miss any Gus Bus magic  ::)
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

It sounds like the institution is so distraught over yesterday's game that they decided to just close up shop.  I don't necessarily blame them.

Agreed, even the internet is in mourning.

Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means a whale's vagina.

We could really use a little speed at RB.  Even if the "O" Line had opened up a tiny hole somewhere during the game we don't have anyone fast enough to get through it.

The Johnnie offense looked good compared to either the Falcons or Chiefs so far today (I know but it is the ONLY game on for now). After 7 possessions the announcer actually got excited when the Falcons made it to 3rd and 4. Best drive so far.  >:(
WOW - a first down finally :D

Update; The Falcons scored twice and I think the announcer said the Chiefs have 7 yards in 5 possessions.
Oops officially 6 yards.
