How in the heck do I access the alternate Johnnie web site from the GoJohnnies.com web site?  The old one had a link and the alternate site was easy to find.  I'd like to read TDT and SJUSection105, etc.

Yeah, I was out fishing on Saturday.  Didn't catch anything.  Frickin' fatheads weren't doing their jobs.  Plus, all those idiots in their big cruisers out looking at the fall leaves.  And don't get me started on the traffic jam in Stillwater.  To top it all off, it started raining.  It's all a consipracy.

That is the problem with Stillwater, people with tillers, no matter how much HP, just get no respect.

Carleton penalties for the year coming into saturdays game
PENALTIES-YARDS...............       19-182                  4.75 penalties per game

Augsburg penalties
PENALTIES-YARDS...............       31-286                  7.75 penalties per game

Looks like the refs have been out to get those auggies all year.   At the same time they must be scheming to help carleton win.  What a joke.

I'm sure about 1/4 of Augsburg's penalties are personal fouls too.

Your numbers support my argument. Thank you. According to averages, you guys somehow should have been within 3 to 5 penalties of us. Somehow, that number was 9. Thanks for doing my work for me. It is refreshing to see the Carlies adding to my argument. Well done, PRF07! Thanks!

Where's my herring?  ;)

I checked the numbers on the penalties and decided to do the standard deviation of
them (the amount plus or minus from the average).  The standard deviation on
Auggie's was 1.7 and Carleton's was about 1.  Generally speaking, you need at least a distribution good to 3sigma (sigma is the standard deviation) to call their
results credible.  If we only do a distribution out to 2sigma (corresponding to
about 95% of the time the numbers are within this range) then this accounts for
Carleton having the possibility of 2.75 penalties and Auggie Tech having 11.15, or
about 9 penalties apart.  So it is not out of the realm of possibility for these two
teams to have a 9 penalty disparity.

Note to self and everyone on the d3 bandwagon...don't ever see the movie "Quarantine"....easily in my bottom 10 of all time (along with "Joe vs the Volcano")...that's it for now...that's it...Go Pipers!

I saw the movie today actually.  The end was an abomination.  Wasn't terrible until those last five or so minutes I would say.

Bottom 10 all time?  Let's be serious here:  Rambo 3, Rocky V (it took years before I was able to acknowledge the existence of this movie), Rocky Balboa when considered an action/drama/sport movie (easily in my top 10 comedies though), Alien vs. Predator 1 & 2, forgetting sarah marshall, Beverly hills chihuahua (haven't seen it... call it a hunch), and any spoof movie that is not made by mel brooks are all worse than quarantine

PRF07,

Why don't you do a t-test of that penalty data to determine if the means are statistically different?

Well the Cobbers all but ended their playoff hopes this weekend with the loss to UST.  Concordia was able to move the ball very well on the ground, behind Cory Johnson's 180 yds. but could never get it in the endzone when they got inside the red zone.  As CobberNation said the passing game needs some fundamental work.  The two plays that stick out the most are the dropped ball with no DB insight at mid field, and the fumble after a short out, that was picked up and ran back inside the 20 I believe and led to the go ahead score for the Tommies.  Nelson played well both running and throwing although he still needs to work on the passing game quite a bit.

The defense played ok, nothing stellar.  Wartman just over 120 yds i believe on about 30 carries or so and the Tommies threw for just over 200.  But as a defender, you're still bummed when you play a tough game like that, only give up 14 points and lose.  The dropped balls, fumbles and timely penalties really hurt Concordia.  They will have to win out in my mind to have a chance at the Playoffs, and that won't be an easy task as they still have Carelton and Augsburg on the schedule.

UST has a solid team this year and Coach Caruso (sp?) has them playing well.  I feel the Tommie vs. Johnnie game this season could be a good one for UST.  They have a nicely balanced offense and a solid defense.  If they keep improving weekly, they could be atop the MIAC at seasons end....

Anyone want to take over the tailgating responsibilities for the Johnnie-Tommie game this Saturday? I will be in Boulder watching the University of Colorado Buffs take on Kansas State for parent's weekend with my daughter. Hard to believe she is a senior. Life goes too fast. ;)

I was playing around with the remaining schedule this morning.  Based on the clear lack of any dominant team(s) in the league, it is still possible for six teams to end up tied for the title with a 5-3 record, without any wild stretch of the imagination losses. (like a loss to Hamline at home),  So anyone with one loss is still in great shape and anyone with 2 losses is still in play.

As much as I'd like to see it happen, I don't think it's likely to see Carleton losing 3 of its remaining games vs. Gustavus, St. Thomas, Hamline, SJU & Concordia.

But, as any defense attorney would counter....is it within the realm of possibility? ;)

There's always a chance...

Lloyd: Hit me with it! I've come a long way to see you, Mary. The least you can do is level with me. What are my chances?
Mary: Not good.
Lloyd: You mean, not good like one out of a hundred?
Mary: I'd say more like one out of a million.
[pause]
Lloyd: So you're telling me there's a chance.
