This looks to be a very promising new site run by one of the Cobber faithful.  I'll jump on the Cobbler bandwagon when SJU has been eliminated.  As for right now, I'm still hoping for two losses for them, though that hope is growing more dim.  I'll be with them should they win it though.  As for this off weekend, I'll be on either the Wartburg or Luther bandwagons down in Waverly.  That should be a good game with playoff implications and I am interested to see how good the IIAC is this year compared to Central last year.  One does not usually see Luther at the top of the IIAC standings which makes things even more interesting.

I was watching both the Caps/Stars and Wild/Blue Jackets game. I just happened to see the play in question. My first thought, even before Backstrom came charging out of the net was, "I think that might have been tipped with a stick above 4'." They played it again and again, and it was VERY close. I was watching the Minnesota broadcast, and I agreed with them that it was too close to overturn the call. I was surprised, as were they that it was. I assume you were watching the Columbus feed, so I hope that doesn't make you even more upset. I actually think that it probably was too high, based on where his stick was. The complicating factor was that he was leaning over a bit reaching. I figured he hit it at mid chest height, which if he were standing up would be well above the limit, but as it was, I couldn't make a definative call. The announcers did say that the officials might have another view. The best one I saw was from a camera that appeared to be looking slightly upward. They also spent a few minutes explaining the history of the Blue jackets name, which was rather interesting. Then I went back to the shootout in Dallas and saw Semin come around from behind rhe net and beat Turco with a laser to the top corner in OT, that Turco still hasn't seen.

On the St. Olaf field goal, I heard last night that this was the kicker's first game, and a quick look at the STO season stats seems to confirm that.

Even though St. John's won, for which I am grateful, it's too bad for that kid.  I think we'll see as good of things from STO as we've been used to seeing with Meidt.  Jerry O, the new coach, is very capable and used to do the recruiting for MN-Mankato bringing in guys like John Hebgen, Jamie Pass, Josh Nelsen, etc. in the mid-90's.

The kicker was new. In fact, he wasn't even listed in the Ole program.

I don't have any information as to what was going on, but that's certainly a rough way to start a career...

He IS new, and he's a nice kid too.  It's a rough start to a career.  Hopefully he realizes that the loss is not on him, or on any individual for that matter.  The Oles had the opportunity to put the game away multiple times, but couldn't do it.  They shouldn't have needed to put a 1st game kicker in that position.  I hope that this game motivates him to success though.

...I just thought the calls for him to be replaced last year were badly misguided and apparently that makes me his biggest supporter on this site...

That and the giant boner you had for him  :D

STO will be just fine with Jerry there.  He was a very good pickup.

Aw, how thoughtful.  ::)

I realize they got beat by a better team. BUT...they had a definite chance before Pryor fumbled. I respect Penn State but I think they will get manhandled by whomever they play in whatever bowl they make it to. Especially if they play someone with the likes of Texas, Texas Tech, OK State...etc

By the way...feel free to spread the word about the CobberNation forum.

Paaaatttt, they aren't playing nice again.   :'(

Pat's too busy mopping up the carnage and getting grief counselors on the NWC board.

Just went over there for a read.  Geez and I thought this board was turning dysfunctional.   ::)
Me too. Way too vituperative over here. I've been hanging at the Politics board where it's all peace, love and uncontroversial.

esq;

You already know we all love your "road to the MIAC championship" series of articles at johnniefootball.com.  Can I make a request?  Maybe a supplement of "road to the second pick into the post season" section?

WIAC is this close to having a two loss second team.  IIAC already does.  Same with the NWC.  SCIAC not yet (could they qualify two?).

(EDIT:  and All, I didn't want to turn this into the NWC board, so please forgive my indulgence.  Six months until I pop-off again, as that seems to be about the pattern for these outbursts of mine.)

Is that where ROR is hanging?  BTW, what happened to the President?  Is he having trouble getting out of Vegas, too?

FALSE!!!! ABSOLUTELY FALSE!!!  I will not stand for this libelous attack!!!  It was dual boner for Kofoed AND Nick Gunderson!  But, um, you know... thanks for noticing.

Snoop, I don't mean to disparage your boy Trevor but he's just not a very good baseball player.  It's not his fault the Twins drafted him where they did, but he's everything I hate about taking toolsy high school players with spotty performance histories.  In high school he was a good all-around player: he could pitch, he could hit, he could field, he could run, he could throw, but he couldn't do any of those things at a level dominant enough to justify using a first round pick on him.  He was tall and rangy but hadn't filled out yet--the kind of kid a scout could look at and imagine what he could be, rather than taking a kid who doesn't look quite so good in a baseball uniform but can freaking mash.  The problem is, as he has grown up, he never took that huge leap forward the scouts imagined/hoped/dream/prayed/believed he would.  He still has a little power, but he's not a slugger.  He can still run a little, but he's not a speedster.  He still has a great arm, but he's not a fundamentally sound defender and he hasn't pitched since high school.

The kid obviously has nothing to be ashamed of--with his pedigree and the fact that he's in AAA at the age of 22 he's still going to make the majors someday, but the deck is stacked against him being anything more than a utility player.  If he were taken in the 20th round rather than with the 20th pick, chances are he'd never make the majors.  Still, he's beaten pretty long odds just to get to where he is, but it's apparent he's never going to be the star everyone hoped he'd be when he grew up.

I am not upset. As a Blue Jacket fan, we expect to lose. ;) It was close, just too bad that the Jackets didn't get to force overtime and take a point. I had the Minnesota feed. It is the only time I get to see Menards ads! I was also flipping back and forth between the Caps and the BJ's. Good game for the Caps. The old guy showed he still has some life in him even if he isn't in Columbus anymore. 8) Dallas has had a dismal start. I blame it on picking up Avery! ;D

TC....He is a great kid.  I wasn't sure how things were going for him.  Sad to see the reality of the situation.  I hope he can continue to improve and make it in bigs.  I guess it isn't such a bad life to be a utility player in the majors while in your 20's.  Thanks for the info.

Hey Wonka,

Where did this RB from Gustavus come from?  Quite the impressive day for him on saturday.  Gustavus seems to be putting together quite a balanced offensive attack.

Impressive day for Frank, Gardner, Ramey, and Henfling at St. Thomas this weekend.  They are about as close to unstoppable on offense as you can get.  Fumbled kickoff and a punt return will do you in however.  Also a 10+ play drive in the final minute of the game by st. thomas.  I would have liked to have sat by who was managing the clock in the booth.  Had to be a home team edge there.  (Which the refs did catch a few times earlier in the 4th quarter and had to adjust because they weren't taking enough time off the clock).  4 plays in the final 15 seconds of the game is quite incredible.
