GREAT game in Northfield.  Oles win in 2OTs.  D-line was outstanding today.  Nick Tolen is a scary man.  He manhandled GAC's guards and centers.  I was incredibly frustrated with the officiating today.  A DB for gac pushes a st olaf receiver out of the way and turns around for the interception, no call.  The officials called st olaf for defensive pass interference while the defender is holding his arms out to the side with open arms, their legs were about to tangle, and they fell over.  Clearly unintentional.  St. Olaf outplayed GAC in my opinion, and came away with a great win.  Haberman is much improved at this point in the season.

I wasn't at the game, but this seems a little much. The Gusties controlled the clock (31:30-28:30), were outgained just 342-334 and had identical first downs.

What's that leave? Turnovers. Gustavus had 3 to Olaf's 2...but two of GAC's came on picks in the end zone. Those are killers.

Were the Oles a better team? Perhaps...but the numbers would seem to suggest an even game across the board. And it would be easy to argue that GAC mistakes at crucial times were the difference, though the Oles obviously played a part in that, I'm sure.

I'm not so much upset we lost...I'm upset that Schoeny's last game is now meaningless because both the Cobbers and Gusties choked. It could have been a spectacular finish.

It was one of those games where there was never a doubt in my mind that my team was going to win.  From my perspective they seemed to play with more intensity.  That was the way that the oles controlled the game in my opinion.

Also, saying that someone's mistakes are the reason that they lost the game is like saying that the team that scores the most points is going to win the game.  Most TD's are the result of mistakes by one team.

So you're saying that despite the ToP being nearly equal, yards are almost identical, first downs are the same and the game goes to double overtime...you were completely confident the Oles were better from the opening snap based on their intensity?

I'll gladly congratulate you on a big win, but please read that again and try to understand how ridiculous it sounds.

All I was trying to say is that for me, it was one of those games where you have a gut feeling that one team is going to win.  Saturday was one of those games for me.  I realize that the stats were even, I'm just giving you my gut reaction from watching the game from the stands.  If you think that's dumb, fine.  I was just trying to explain my earlier comment.

If I had to pick a favorite on Saturday at Carleton I'd go with the Knights....you might say my expectations aren't very high for Saturday.
Why.....
1. 1924 and 1992...Carleton's only MIAC Championships
2. Knights beat the Cobbers in Moorhead and threw for a ton of yards.
3. Ramler knows the Johnnies as well as the Johnnies knows the Johnnies.

BUT... do the Johnnies know Ramler as well as Ramler knows Ramler???!

Does anyone here think that running a Statue of Liberty play for a TD was a coincidence? John just wanted to put one more thing on film for the Carleton coaching staff to game plan for.
Here's a hint for the Carleton coaches....look for a Halfback option pass ( most likely back to the QB) in the 1st series. Go ahead and look back on film, look at the Bethel game 2003 for evidence of that. Big games always start with trick plays to get the momentum rolling!  ;)

They did it against Central two years ago in the first series if I remember correctly.

Incorrect sir.

A couple rows higher than my first guess....LWD is in a grayish jacket with hat, with you and TC next to him in blue and red jackets respectively....should have just looked for the Veek-stauche.

If they insist on calling Stanton a defensive end in their new scheme, wouldn't it technically be a 4-3 that they primarily ran on Saturday?  It looked like #13 spent about an equal amount of time in coverage and in the backfield--it was almost a 3-3-5 stack with an extra strong safety in the game.  I guess the name doesn't matter so much as the results and I think they'll have a hard time getting Stanton off the field at this point.
The coaches must be reading The Sizzle on johnniefootball.com. One football genius wrote this on October 11th:
"(Closed circuit to SJU coaches: find a way to get Stanton in the game. I don't think you've got another player to match his size, speed and ability)."

If that is the case, STOP RUNNING THE OPTION TO THE SHORT SIDE OF THE FIELD.

Please.

Well, you're not mistaking this for The Sizzle, are you?  You'll need a 30 (turdy) pack of Hamm's to even start that, won't you?

Great work today Esq.  If the Johnnies are lucky enough to win on Saturday, a trip to Southern California sounds much better than a trip to Stevens Point...

We either leave at 5am or get home at 5am.  It's just how we roll.

Sidenote: We have a winner.  Congratulations to Redtooth.  Nice sleuthing Sheriff.
Chasing MILFs since '82...

snoop dawg

If SJU makes the trip to So. Cal. I would love to buy you guys a beer or turdy.

Esq:  Nice article, however I think I have done a bit more research on the strength of schedule of Northwestern, and I wouldn't mind somebody else checking my work over on the pool b board.  My math has Northwestern likely to get the third pool B bid if they beat St. Thomas.  Maybe something crazy will happen and we'll see St. John's get a home game against Northwestern.
