QuoteAs far as the Carleton turnaround being a factor in the MVP race, it's the same semantic argument that MVP voters deal with in baseball every year.  I personally don't think that team performance should have much bearing on individual awards.  Others may disagree.  Also, Augsburg has had an impressive turnaround since 2006, too, if you're into that.

I tend to agree with your first statement--I mean look at the dude from the Giants that won the Cy?  They were like 20 games under .500.  To me value = victory.  The ultimate goal in sports is to win.  So either change the name to BSP (Best Statistical Player) or factor in wins with the award.

Carleton, with a win would be five wins better than their 07 campaign.  An AUG win will put them one win better than their 07 campaign.

Nice to be back talking football.  I'd say The Rube has a "side room" not a back room if we are going to split hairs.

Also, I saw sansevere got some love on here for his work.  How about this brother.

The Heisman winner is almost always linked to wins/losses along with the NFL MVP. In fact, it looks like every Heisman winner, except for Tebow last year, played on a conference winning team.  Being the best Athlete rarely has anything to do with it, except maybe in Charles Woodson's case, but he had game changing performances on the NC team.

If Carleton wins and Henfling puts up solid numbers, I believe he deserves it. However if they lose, it is up for grabs and we all know Winford has some hops.

I feel terrible. I just found out yesterday was "snow plow appreciation day" here in Wisconsin. I did nothing.....so....today I'm going to celebrate it hard to make up for it. I'll be starting in about a half hour, but if you guys stop for one after work, remember to toast one for the snow plows, I'll still be toasting at that time.

Flash, you might BE toast by that time.   :D

The point is, it doesn't matter, Northwestern's schedule is statistically tougher than the two other pool B hopefuls for the third bid.

Again, no-- according to the NCAA's Strength of Schedule, sure-- but nobody has ever held the NCAA as being the definitive answer with regard to math. For what it is worth, Massey says otherwise.  Northwestern's Massey schedule strength comes in at a pudgy 202, with LaGrange, Huntingdon and Wesley at worst coming in at 196. By way of contrast, Hamline's 34th ranked SOS in Massey brings up the rear in the MIAC.  Overall, Massey gives Northwestern a rank of 106, while CWRU comes in at 52, LaGrange at 70, and Huntingdon at 82.  For more perspective on what this means, that ranking would put Northwestern a step above Hamline (119) but way below Bethel (50) in the MIAC.

While Massey isn't a part of the NCAA's selection materials, do you really think they don't take such evidence into account?
I guess I trust the NCAA to use their own criteria.  There's a subjective quality to the selections as well as I don't believe they pool all the statistics into one overall ranking such as the BCS.  You're making my point for me with the MIAC strength of schedule comments.  Northwestern is playing a game against the IIAC, WIAC, and MIAC.  St. Scholastica could go down to the SLIAC and pick up 3 or 4 wins, which would have made our strength of schedule look even better.

Do Johnnie or Tommie fans feel any natural support for the other catholic colleges in the state?  namely, Scholastica.

Not me. But I'm a big fan of Northwestern. Do you think they'll make the playoffs this year?

+1 Clubhouse leader for Post of the Day...BTW: Stanbob time for you to come out of hibernation and make an appearance this week.  The game is even down near your neck of the woods.  Make it happen sir.
Chasing MILFs since '82...

SUMMIT!!!!!

VJ- no disdain here, just no blinders, either. Wimmer has had a good season, but Ziller has done it all.  You're right about Waldvogel, espcially once he and Morse get in sync. Add to it a solid running game and a nice core returning on "D" and Caruso has one of the 2009 co-favorites on his hands.

AO-- Considering CSC was all-female went many of us were undergrads, I doubt there is much affinity or dislike for them. But I know this much-- I will root for them every time they play North-worthless, and thats not  a Catholic vs non-Catholic bais     :)  and for an equally stupid question--- Do you root for St. Kates when they play St Bens?
After the game, the king and pawn go into the same box.
