"And I see that snoopdawg also points out (before I hit the 'post' button) that he can rate Brown individually.  Hmmmm... yes a mystery.  More clues please."

I am not sure what you mean by rate him individually.  I met him, I liked him, I thought he was straightforward and honest.  It appeared to me the players that he interacted with all really liked him.  End of story.  No mysteries.  If by mystery you want to know when, before this last season.  You already know the rest.

Not a mystery on your part, but a mystery on WW's.  You and I are in agreement: you don't need to know the names of the other candidates in order to have a good opinion of Brown.  What I find mysterious is that WW knows the identity of at least one other candidate and he hedges your good opinion of Brown - specifically pointing out relative weightings.  That leads me to believe that WW thinks Brown is the second rated, at best, candidate.  The intrigue is wondering if that rating is his own or the opinion of his leaker.

No mystery on your part (OB has you a bit gun shy ;) ).

Whoa whoa whoa. Let's not go overboard reading into my comments here. I *hope* Brownie gets the job. He's put in the time with the program and has a family to think about. If this doesn't work out for him, I've got to imagine he'll consider pulling up shop to pursue his dream and that'd be a loss for the Gusties.

That said, he was my position coach and my work-study boss in my days at GAC. I literally spent almost every hour in the fall with him. I've watched his kids and saw 9/11 happen in his office...but the times weren't always rosy. I don't know enough — or anything, really — about the other candidate to make any sort of informed decision, so I'd rather go to battle with a guy I know.

We'll see if the committee of two agrees with my train of thought or tries to make a bigger splash. I tend to think they'll go bigger, but that's coming without any inside info.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

I listened to Brown when he applied for the Auggie job a few years back. He seems like a knowledgeable guy. Good candidate.

I wonder if the Whitewater OC is applying for jobs again this year?
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

I have been studying the playoff outcomes to date and I am wondering if anyone else is amazed at how poorly the NCAA selection group got the seedings this year.  The four regional finals consist of the following:

East 1 vs 3
North 5 vs 7
West 5 vs 7
South 2 vs 5

I realize upsets are part of every season, but it would appear that the committee got fixated on "undefeated teams" (albeit from some weak conferences) in the seeding process.  Kudos to those teams that did not let a poor seeding impact their game (Whitewater #4 in the country, but seeded #5 in the West.....wtf).

In the future maybe strength of conference, playoff history and some other qualitative measures can be used to properly seed the regions.  They also need to address their chronic habit of being cheap with travel....#1 playing #2 in the West and #2 playing #3 in the South.  If you are going to seed the regions, play the seedings (but get them right); if not pick 8 teams per region and begin to pull the pairings out of a hat.

A local review of Australia is out.  Glad I missed it:

"The shame of Australia"

And so a movie that is a huge grab-bag of cliches - a collation of gaudy images pecked from deserted movie sets by an insatiable bowerbird - isn’t just bad storytelling.

It’s also an exercise in bad faith - a movie allegedly about Australia, defining Australia, that’s shot by a man who actually doesn’t understand the country, and doesn’t like it, either.

It only becomes more critical from there.

EDIT: In case you are interested in reading further, here is the ending:

This [review] is the real history of Australia - there’s racism, yes, but more commonly there are people struggling, however imperfectly, to do their best, some bringing care and protection to Aborigines at great personal sacrifice.

That’s the real Australia, and how sad that Luhrmann has sold the world his Australia instead - a ghastly cliche of the demons we never were.

Someone just sent me this. Why did I think of Flash?

The wife has been on my case to get the Christmas lights up for a couple of weeks now.  They are up now, and for some reason she will not talk to me.

The Gusties should hire from within.  Coach Brown has been there for many, many years.  He is a dedicated, enthusiastic and knowlegable coach.  He would make a great leader and the players, from what I gathered, loved him.  Sounds like a great decision to me.  Just sayin'.

He has been a fixture there.  It's good for them to pick from within.  It will probably be a little different of a program but there will be a lot of consistency and cohesiveness retained.  He's got good ties in Southern MN.  I bet GAC will pick up a few good guys from this year's Mankato West team.

Doesn't the committee switch around who plays who due to travel and distance?

No, they switch around who plays who and where due to money.
Everyday is payday in paradise.
