I think you're mixing him up with Kiwi heartthrob, Ben Dover.

[Teein' it up to you, Oz! :D]

Har, har.  I may not be rich, but that doesn't stop people from laughing at my expense.  ;)

In other news, I'll be back for the Johnnie/Tommie game on Oct 17.  I booked the tickets this afternoon.  Gunga galunga... gunga, gunga-galunga.

Ret,

Those Caps very, very good. I hear people talking about them in places you'd never suspect -- an actually hockey buzz around DC. Your boy Steckel is getting major face time and I enjoy seeing a hard worker like that get rewarded (which I know will likely surprise you given previous political posts :) ).  Ovie is deserving of all the accolades he gets but I particularly enjoy watching Semin as well.

Oz, re Bachmann: You got figure she's smart enough to know how her words will play so perhaps somewhere there is a method to her madness. One point, tho: her little joke/jab at the Dems and swine flu misses the point that the previous outbreak actually began in the Ford administration.

No doubt her "zinger" was intended to play to the same the-other-side-is-stupid game that I despise, and if so then she got her just desserts for looking foolish.  Abe Lincoln stands so tall amongst politicians because he never argued that Douglas was stupid or evil concerning slavery, just wrong.  Lincoln never resorted, at least publicly, to playing the man and instead he would make the positive argument for whatever principle or policy he was advocating.  Of course, he was brilliant in his argumentation (which helps).

Imagine how refreshing it would be today to hear an argument for socialized medicine on the merits, rather than with the invective of Republicans hate poor people or Democrats are budding fascists.

Anyway, this is a discussion for the political boards, which I no longer visit, so I'll drop this thread and instead focus my eye where it really belongs: looking for rare jokes that can be mercilessly applied to the lovely coeds of Summit Ave.

Not gonna count 'em out. If this series holds true to form with the other three, the visiting team will win game 2. I hope the Caps break that string, but...........

pete - I met Steckel's dad at a Milwaukee Admirals (AHL) game a couple months back. He was playing with Brashear and Bradley at that time, but I think his new line with Bradley and Laich is a winner too. Laich is the scorer on that line, but he's yet to get it going. The Pens don't seem to want to play their fourth line much, and I hope that means they will tire their top three during the course of the game, while Boudreau keeps rolling four.

Q: What did the Tommie coed name her pet Zebra?
A: Spot.

Q: Why did the Tommie coed drive into the ditch?
A: To turn the blinker off.

Q: What do you call a Tommie coed between two Bennies?
A: A mental block.

Are you bringing all the women or coming solo?

OzJohnnie

Solo effort this year.  School is on and I come from the tradition of if you're not in the hospital then you're sitting behind a desk.

Here are the last quarter highlights from the Hawks/Blues game on the weekend (crimes with animals in all jurisdictions but Alabama aside).  A thriller that Hawthorn was lucky to escape with a victory.

(best to watch in high quality)

NRA blocks UW-La Crosse from mascot name
Associated Press
Updated: 05/04/2009 10:43:30 AM CDT

The campus vote to name the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse eagle mascot "Eddie" doesn't fly with the National Rifle Association.

The NRA has blocked the name because it has a gun safety mascot with the same name, which is trademarked.

Allowing the mascot to have the same name would be confusing because both are used in an educational setting, said NRA secretary Edward land.

Students, faculty and staff are casting another vote online through Friday.

Senior student Jack Temple is leading a petition drive to name the eagle "Colbert," after Comedy Central TV host Stephen Colbert.

The other mascot name choices return from the original contest — Baldy, Edgar, Ernie, Screech and Talon.

I suggest naming it

This year?  This suggests you'll be coming again - and bringing the women, yes?

As for your excuse for not bringing them this year, what could be more important for your children than a trip to the homeland?  School, shmool.
