I'm not sure it qualifies me to "lawfully wed" couples, but I happen to be the presiding Chaplain at Eagles Aerie #622. One of our bartenders actually paid his $50 to the state and is officially licensed to preside at weddings. He did this so he could marry some friends, and he's gotten several referrals from his 1st gig. Says he can make more in a half hour than a whole night bartending. Of course, (other than me) Eagles patrons are not known as big tippers.
Think I might get me one of them there licenses and would be happy to have my first wedding take place at the tailgate. Any takers?

Flu forces Stillman to forfeit game

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Stillman canceled its home opener against Clark Atlanta because of swine flu, college officials announced Thursday.

Stillman was scheduled to play Clark Atlanta on Saturday in Tuscaloosa. But Tigers football coach L.C. Cole says he noticed some of his players were having flu-like symptoms after a morning workout this week.

Cole says he felt compelled to cancel the game after he learned that about 37 of his players had become sick. The coach says he doesn't know how everyone became sick.

57, I have a couple of favors to ask of you.  1)  Can you cover for me this weekend?  My fiancee and myself are headed to SW Mn to finalize wedding plans.  2) Will also need you to cover on the 26th as that is the fateful date?  I know it is during the season but it is the only time my brother the priest will be able to be back from Japan to do the ceremony.  There is alos some family history for Fall weddings, when my parents emerged after their two day honeymoon my Dad asked how the world series was going and was told that the day before Don Larsen had tossed his perfect game.    And as this is my 1,000 post I must add that :

The Auggies are up against a conference contender, an almost certain top two finisher in the IACC, right?  No one else is playing that tough are they?

Bethel is playing #6 Wheaton and Concordia is playing #8 Willamette. 

Well, in that case I say Concordia.  I'll never vote for Bethel to win anything.

All of you who voted SJU for having the toughest OOC schedule are bafoons. River Falls and a bye week. Yeah, that's tough.

Looks like the board has been keeping a nice pace since I last saw it.  Another exciting MIAC season is upon us.  I don't know much news about the cobbers exiting fall camp this year.  It looks like they have transferred Larson from defense to starting QB to start the year.  He might get a rude awakening on Saturday as the cobbs host 8th ranked Williamette.  I will be rooting for the cobbers no doubt, but don't be surprised if the cobbs get down early to see some rotating QB's in the game.  I just hope it doesn't turn out like SJU with 3 qb's rotating into the middle part of the season, but maybe I do because you have to do whatever it takes to win the MIAC!

Making matters even worse is the Cobbers' schedule doesn't give them any early breathers:  #8 Willamette, @ Valley City County Credit Union St., #13 St. John's, @ Bethel, @ #22 St. Thomas.  Yuck.  I think they graduated something like 98% of their offensive production from last season and are starting a defensive back at QB.  If they don't figure their offense out in a hurry, things could get brutal for what should be a pretty talented team.  And that's not exactly the easiest offense for an inexperienced team to run.

Now that I'm officially working The World's Worst Work Schedule (pick the 36 hours each week that you'd least want to work, those are the ones that I'm working...), I'll be taking a nap in the office tomorrow morning before heading to River Falls.  ETA:  somewhere between 11:00 and kickoff.
