This week's sign of the apocalypse

Hoag Playing in the UFL
Former Gustavus standout wide receiver Ryan Hoag, who graduated in 2003, and has played professionally with the Oakland Raiders, the New York Giants, the Minnesota Vikings, the Washington Redskins, and the Jacksonville Jaguars has signed a contract to play with the New York Sentinels of the fledgling United Football League, which will begin play on Oct. 10. Hoag starts training camp tomorrow in Orlando, Florida. You will be able to watch UFL games on the Versus network and you can follow Ryan's progress through his blog on the Gustavus football web page. The link to the blog will go live some time in the next week. Be sure to check the link at http://gustavus.edu/athletics/fb.

Is the blog on the GAC website in lieu of payment from the UFL, or is there a paycheck at the end of this train wreck for him?

Is the moniker on his back "Brett Hate Me"  ???

As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

From Bob  Wicker's SJU Unofficial Underground News:
(I vaugely remember this.  It was the 70's man.)

Bob, I don't know if you are aware of a Johnnie Rat nicknamed "The Animal". In 1972, he came to a varsity basketball game in the old gym after an intramural b-ball game. He was wrapped in layers of clothing and when the SJU band broke into the Gypsy Rose Lee theme song, Animal stood up and began to theatrically take off his various shirts...and pants....much to the dismay of many ladies in the crowd.

Animal (Michael Kevin Hauer '75) got such a rousing reaction that his performance became a much anticipated part of each game – even when the team moved into then new Warner Palestra a year or so later.

Recently, I uncovered an 8 mm film (silent of course) of the 1974 Tommie/Johnnie bout in the Palestra. Turns out, I had filmed Animal's act and had long forgotten about the movie which sat buried in a basement box for over 30 years.

Now you can see it...complete with dubbed in music thanks to Thom Woodward...at our class reunion website: — Todd

http://www.sjualum.com/videos/Pages/ClassOf1974.aspx

The Animal was incredible. I loved Rat Hall and the specialty bits for the Cobbers,  Tommies and Huskies. None of that stuff could be done these days. K for the rest of the week ...

I hope it works out for Hoag...but for all the wrong reasons. I simply don't want to see him join his old high school coach on the GAC staff this fall if/when he gets cut...and I know I'm not alone in that camp. The guy who actually pointed me to the blog blurb expects the comments section to be deactivated within a few minutes of the initial entry — but it won't be from anything I have to say.

Former Gustie players and teammates were disgusted by his sideline antics a few years back. The players I've spoken to who played "under" his tutelage had similar feelings. Believe it or not, he's not exactly the most popular guy.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Let's get it done, Johnnies!  Leaving for the North Shore in a few minutes.  I'll tune in the game.

Good luck to all the MIAC schools.

Here's to hoping we can surprise Pat and the Triple Take team (and myself, according to my pickems!?!) with an undefeated weekend!

Trying to find out if TDT and Fins have been arrested by local security for drinking at a college football game. :o
Without 57, hope we don't need the 4:30 a.m. beer for OZ to change the momentum.

sju56321:

If your quote is legit, I don't think that bodes well for the UWEC offense today.

My prediction: bloodbaths in Collegeville and Arden Hills today...hopefully both SJU and BU come out on top.

"See" everyone in the in-game update thread.

GoldandBlueBU

A bit of a heart breaker for Bethel today...they certainly played well enough to win, but Wheaton came up with some big plays when they needed them.  (Last second TD to win, in case you weren't aware)

Bethel overall looked solid...they have some work to do, but are certainly going to hold up decently in the MIAC I think.

Have to go watch the gophers now...hopefully they can win to lift my spirits.

57Johnnie

57 reporting from Oklahoma. Had to leave at halftime with Johnnies ahead 13-7 as I recall. Apparently my catfish rally worked but it didn't do ZIP's heart any good.  ;D
What happened to the vaunted D?
Back in western CO in a few days  ;)

If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

that's an understatement!  I don't even want to see the stats, it's only gonna make it sting more.

Hats off to Wheaton. They made the plays to win.

I think BU did too, we just need to not kill ourselves with turnovers and the kicking game.
