Pat do you think you could provide a link from the boards page to the main d3football page?  I have to admit I cheat and bookmark the boards page, but would like to have a little easier access to the main page.  thanks.  stanbob

A bit of a heart breaker for Bethel today...they certainly played well enough to win, but Wheaton came up with some big plays when they needed them.  (Last second TD to win, in case you weren't aware)

Bethel overall looked solid...they have some work to do, but are certainly going to hold up decently in the MIAC I think.

Have to go watch the gophers now...hopefully they can win to lift my spirits.

that's an understatement!  I don't even want to see the stats, it's only gonna make it sting more.

Hats off to Wheaton. They made the plays to win.

I think BU did too, we just need to not kill ourselves with turnovers and the kicking game.

Yeah, the kicking game definitely was a let down... 2 missed PAT's and a short field goal that was blocked because it was way too low...ouch.I was hoping it would be at least serviceable since they have the same kicker back from last year after he had a decent year.
I felt myself wondering what would have been if Flannery had caught the pass on the last BU third down...clock wouldn't have stopped, and Wheaton only had 1 timeout at that point, so they were unlikely to use it until they had the ball...

oh well...next week.

Well the Oles looked impressive in their non-conference matchups.  They gave up a net NEGATIVE 53 yds rushing in the two games thus far.

Now its on to the important games...TOMMY WEEK!

As I said before, the Tommies are overrated and come next Sat. will fall to the Ole onslaught by double digits

Just got back from the gopher/air force game.  The gophers finally played well in the 4th quarter to win the game.  TCF bank stadium is absolutely awesome, just a great atmosphere for college football.

The cobbers had a great day offensively vs. valley city state, but now the important games start with the conference schedule.  I think it will be a great game in Moorhead next saturday when the Johnnies come to town.

I saw the score of the johnnie/eau claire game, was it as close as it looked?

Cobbernation,

Just returned from the Gopher game as well.  Agreed on all points.  I thought the crowd could have been a little more lively.  I guess that 's a result of all those years on the Dome.

Regarding the Johnnies:  closer than the score indicates.  It was really a 28-27 game.  And that is with the Johnnies blocking the extra point on EC's last touchdown.

The last three games, the Johnnies have allowed 27 points to UW-Eau Claire, 24 points to UW-River Falls, and 37 points to UW-Whitewater.  The last time the Johnnies have allowed 88 points or more in three consecutive games was...

...wait for it...

1993, when they allowed 95 points in their three playoff games (32-14 win over Coe, 47-25 win over UW-LaCrosse and 56-8 loss to Mount Union).  St. John's outscored opponents 615 to 105 during the regular season that year, of course.

Just got an email from Ms. Minnesota 2009 that she won't be able to make it up for a Johnnie game this fall. :'( I suppose I could try and get some of the Vikings cheerleaders up to a Stiftungsfestivities and a Johnnie game. We will see how it goes. Developing....

You don't have to care about pretty, but you should care about sloppy and/or lucky.

Stats seem to point a finger at the db's.
You are correct (as usual) Flash. The two safeties are returning starters as is one CB, however the other starting CB is a Freshman and was 3rd on the depth chart going into fall camp, 2 season ending knee injuries later he was thrown into action. The youngster is experiencing baptism by fire and will pay dividends in the future, but you can see (from the stands) that he is frustrated by the breakdowns in coverage. To complicate things yesterday, the other starting CB had the flu & did play the 1st half and had a pick, but about midway through the 2nd Qtr. left and did not return because of dehydration. The starting free safety was out part of the 2nd half due to injury, but he did return to action.

They are either going to have to figure out how not to get injured or sick or they are going to have to find back ups to step in without so much of a drop off in results. I have confidence that the coaching staff & the kids will get it resolved.
