TDT, do you want to own up to being the brilliant Johnnie FB mind who thought Fred Jackson was not all that impressive??   :o

On the other side, I seem to remember a few Johnnie posters coming on the board that after that game saying they were pretty impressed with Jackson.

I played against him that chilly day in Collegeville.  He was good, but I don't remember thinking he was that good.  I thought more of some of the MIAC backs that year (Barkley, Johnson).  Coe was pretty soft, though.  Maybe he would have looked better with a better team.  It's cool that he's having NFL success, though.

A tradition unrivaled...

d3football.com rankings are out.  Johnnies remain at #6.  Tommies move up to #17.  Cobbers drop out and only get a few votes.  Bethel also receiving just a few votes.

I knew we'd drop out of the top-25 but I didn't think that far. A top-25 team losing to a top-10 team usually doesn't result in that much of a change. Oh well, rankings don't play the game.

I reckon the Cobbers are the only team with a shot of being #2 out of the conference into the post season.  Cobbers win out and they are in.  No one else will win out as they still have to play the Johnnies... :)  If Bethel win everything but their game against the Johnnies, then they are unlikely to make it as a two loss team - but maybe.  The Tommies will lose at least three this year (J's, Royals and Cobbers) so they are missing the extra time most certainly.

I like it Oz!  Keep looking past BU, its worked well for you the last 3 years 8)

If I could bring myself to admit you have a point, then this would probably be a good time to do it.

Watched Bethel this past weekend at Carleton.  Carleton was overmatched and looked exactly like I thought/was afraid they would, young.  I thought Bethel had a good chance at winning the MIAC, but I may be a little more skeptical now.  They still have the same mammoths on the O-line, which allowed Flannery to have to do very little work for his TDs, but they had a lot of miscues that a top team will make them pay for.  A lot of fumbles and dropped interceptions will hurt them much more in a few weeks.  I also just was not impressed by their DBs, as one of them got beat several times on a hitch for 10 yards by a freshman QB turned receiver, and of course dropped interceptions.

If they can get rid of their sloppy turnovers, then I think their O-line (and D-line too) gives them enough to make a run.

It's also important to remember that he did not go straight to the NFL (bounced around in indoor and then NFLEurope I think?).  He was too small compared to now, and definitely would not have made the jump straight to the NFL.

From the Bills' website:

Originally, signed to Bills practice squad on September 3, 2006 ... played two seasons with the Sioux City Bandits of the United Indoor Football League where he was named league MVP and Offensive Player of the Year in 2005. ... set a United Indoor Football League record with 1,770 yards and 53 touchdowns in 2005. ... played in NFL Europa in 2006 with the Rhein Fire – led the team with 731 rushing yards.

I kinda liked NFL Europa; sorry to see it fizzle.  The NFL must have concluded that American football was simply not going to make it over there.

I ripped Fred Jackson?  I certainly may have, but I'd love to see the proof as I don't have the vaguest memory of doing so.  He has looked good for Buffalo so far.  Always nice to see a D3 kid make good in the Big Show (see: Raiderguy's mancrush last night in Miami, London Fletcher, etc).

BTW: What does F. Jackson have to do with the recent convo of Northwestern sucking balls and MIAC football in general?  I am confused by this most random comment.  Hazzben are you friends with freebird or some of the other yahoos from Arden Hills?  -K sir.

Hey TDT,

Thanks for touching base with me on Saturday while I was in SoCal.  TDT just wanted to tell me where are the best places to beg for change, best overpasses to sleep under, and where he was rejected by some pros for not being clean enough.

At the risk of upsetting TDT and staying slightly off topic, here's a pretty good write up about Fred Jackson:

Hurrah for Fred Jckson

Okay time to start thinking about Saturday in St. Peter.  The pre-game gathering will be at Patricks Bar and Grill in downtown St. Peter.  TDT will be there early signing autographs, taking photos, etc.  Sorry only 1 per person.  This joint has terrific food/beverage and is an excellent alternative to the anti-tailgating policies which have been established on-campus at Gustavus.

Spoke with TC last night.  He is down in Chicago watching the Twins games at Comiskey Park.  Asked where he was staying he said, "At some hostel in Greektown, $21 for a bunk bed or $61 for a private room, I took the private digs".

Duff...It might be more accurate to say "that f-in cold day".  I checked the stat sheet and the high during the game was 16 with NW winds 9-19 and a windchill of -2.  I remember freezing my arse off.  It probably didn't help that I was out with the Sprinturf crew reglueing some of the field seams at 1am the night before.

Yeah, it was cold.  I remember walking out for the coin toss and the refs were in parkas!

Thinking of making the drive.    When does the TDT pregame  show start at Patrick's?

I understand Patrick's opens at 11:00.  If so one has to wonder where the good folks of Saint Peter can go to drink their breakfast.

No relation to the NWC posts, I was just making reference to the recent Pat C. article on the homepage.

For the record, I have no idea which Johnnie Pat was referencing in the article.  But I thought I'd take a jab at you, knowing the close friendship you and Pat share and guessing it was highly likely that the two of you were cheering together from the stands ;D
