Any Cobber fans that watched both BU and SJU in person this year want to provide their insight for Saturday's game?

I saw some of the BU game Saturday and came away very impressed.  I suspect SJU will be tough as always.  How is there QB situation at the moment? Did Keating find another year of eligibility and stabilize the position?  :)

Freebird, by the time the game ends you will know all you need to about the next Johnnies All Conference QB, Joe Boyle...

And with regards to getting 4 W's in a row against SJU, you can put the trophy you get for that right next to those National Championship trophies in your trophy case...

Bethel years from now will refer to the royal smackdown I expect they will receive this weekend with a number of shorthand references:

The Year of the Fourlorn - describing the mood on the bus as the team retreats back south, tails tucked between legs.

Nothing to Dance Four - the student body being so depressed they can't even get their liberated jiggy on.

Die Ninety Four - the renamed freeway where Royal delusions travel to pass away.

The Four Hour Boyle - in reference to the time spent cooking from kick-off until the Royals can escape the heat by climbing back on the bus.

Ha!

I like these Oz....very creative.  Particularly "Die Ninety Four"

As you likely haven't made a trip to Minnesota for a few years I might inform you that Die Ninety Four has been a one-way road for the last 3 years.

Great ones OZ got a chuckle out of them.

Seeing the MVC might come to your tailgate was going to bring up the MVC of the week for the San Fran game was a Bennie.  Maybe that is an in for you.

Like rain to a parade, AO must swoop in to try and ruin the day...  Make sure to send a note when Northwestern schedules someone tougher than Grandma's Plastic Hip Emporium And Football Team.

If a team's record or prestige was a qualifier on a fan's right to talk smack then your lips (or fingers) would be stitched up like a zombie's from a B-grade 80's horror flick.  If anyone should avoid giving credence to the 'shut up' argument, it is you.

EDIT: Fixed multiple errors.  I'd like to see you mutton-heads try typing on a Blackberry with two artificial thumbs.

(I don't have two artificial thumbs, but I'd still like to see you try.)

WOW, Oz, wasn't that kinda bringin' out the nukes to swat a fly? :o ;)

I hate to admit it, but Oz takes the cake for creativity... :-\

And personally, I have way too much respect for the Johnnies to start picking slogans to go along with four in a row before we've even won the game.  Even after the fact it wouldn't sit well.

Although the mere fact that we're having this discussion speaks volumes for how far Bethel has come under Coach J!  My freshman year I remember reading all about the aberation '99 was and what a beat down we were going to get. There was nothing even approaching respect for Bethel back then.

Mr. Over-reaction, that's me.

BTW - I owe you a "you were right."  The Twinks are giving Detroit a run for their money.  It's a low-grade run, but a run all the same.

How many personal fouls is Bethel averaging per game this year?

I guess I could re-phrase that- how many penalty yards per game average, and of that average how yards many are the result of personal fouls?
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Do you know the answer already?  Is it ugly or are we just assuming (hoping) it's ugly.  I gotta go have a look-see and find out if it's easy to decipher the answer.

EDIT:  This is what I'm getting from the Bethel stats page:

Over four games.

                                          BU                               OPP
                                 ---------------------         ------------------------
Penalties                            24 - 263                          18 - 134
Avg per game                    6 - 65.8                            4.5 - 33.5
Avg per pen                       11 yds                              7.4 yds

There is no breakdown on what the specific penalties are, but it's pretty clear that BU is being penalized not only 30% more often, but 50% harsher.  If one is to assume that there are about 2 minor penalties in a game for motion and such, then we get:

                                          BU                               OPP
                                 ---------------------         ------------------------
Penalties, major                16 - 223                          10 - 94
Avg per game                   4 -  55.8                            2.5 - 23.5
Avg per pen                      13.9 yds                           9.4 yds

And now we see that for major penalties, BU is being pinged 60% more frequently and still 50% more harshly.

What to conclude?  I dunno, but it seems pretty obvious that BU has a love affair with major infractions.  Surprising.  I didn't expect that.

It's brings to mind another name that may get adopted for this weekend:

The Ten-Four Game - referring to the words that a number of BU players hear over the police scanner while riding in the back of the paddy wagon after being taken away for playing with everything short of brass knuckles.

Oz,
I'm glad you did the research  ;)

This was a question for the BU faithful, but as long as you have done the heavy lifting, let me expand.

This is no surprise. Bethel teams (especially when they had a current NFL QB coach as the offensive coordinator) seem to have a discipline problem and the major penalties seem to come early & often.

Will the trend continue on Saturday? Time will tell.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

hazzben

From the games I've seen, most of the infractions have been offensive holding and pass interference.

There was a personal foul against BU on Saturday but it was pretty lame/funny. Cobbers qb scrambled for a first down and Bethel linebacker went to tackle him near the sideline. Looked like it might be a late hit out of bounds (one of those that was close to the sticks and a tough spot for the defender) in front of the Cobber bench. The ref appeared to anticipate a late hit and was going for his flag. At the last second the linebacker, Pearson, tried to pull up while the Cobber qb gave him a stiffarm.  The lb got knocked over and then the official threw a flag on him for a personal foul to make the result sting a bit worse.

Without looking, I think Bethel had around 115 penalty yards on 12 penalties against Concordia on Saturday, which would skew the per game stats pretty severely.

On a side note: it is really hard/nearly impossible to quote a long previous post from an iPhone
