Interesting to read about the conservative play calling at the end of the STJ/ Bethel game. Against Wheaton Bethel needed a first down to seal the game and they threw the ball 2 out of 3 downs. At the time I questioned why they didn't pound Flannery 3 times and make Wheaton use their timeouts. If they had done that, Bethel would have won the Wheaton game. Wheaton got the 3 and out, made Bethel punt and worked clock and the field to win on the last play. That result may have had an impact on the end of the St John's game Saturday.

Wow. that was the biggest botched kick followed by the most impressive kick that I have ever witnessed in person.

Congrats to SJU...fun game to watch, and always a good atmosphere at Clemens.

Since BU's playoff hopes are mostly gone now, I'm wondering how Johnson will be able to bring them together again after such an emotional loss.

I was impressed with Boyle getting up after taking such big hits and coming back into the game time and time again.

I guess that was some Johnnie magic, huh?  It burned as it went down.

Thank you Wooderson- awesome to watch over & over again.

GoldandBlueBU- Bethel is far from done. If the Royals run the table, they have a strong case for a Pool C bid, losing to the #4 @ the time Wheaton & the #6 @ the time SJU by tight scores looks strong for them BUT they need to run the table.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

I agree with you on that.  Bethel is a very impressive team.  And depending on what happens, if they run the table they could still end up with an automatic bid.  For our sake though, let's hope the stars don't align quite as well for Bethel this year as they did for SJU last year with two losses!

Quote from: faunch on October 03, 2009, 11:21:25 PMIs he having trouble finding open receivers or are they just not open???

It's a combo of Bethel being all over them and having a mediocre (at best) receiving corps.  They weren't running routes with any urgency at all yesterday.  Looked 3/4 speed at best.  Boyle had all day back there, but the receivers would run their routes and stop.  Gotta keep moving till the ball is thrown!  And when Boyle eventually did tuck it and run, the receivers didn't come back and block at all!  I was very unimpressed with the receiving corps aside from Overman--that kid's got good size and a nice set of hands on him.  Hope his injury wasn't serious.

Vanderhyden was operating at probably something like 75% IMO.  His knee was bothering him.  There was one pass to him into the end zone which I think he would have been able to go up and get if his knee were in better shape.

I notice that there has been another vote in the poll above and it's for TDT and AFTER the beat down already occurred.  The timing of the vote suggests an intelligence only found in TDT supporters, so I guess the vote could have gone nowhere else.

According to TDT's post though TDT won that one.  Maybe that voter knew something we didn't.   ;D ;D ;D  Or TDT has another name.   ;D ;D ;D

Wooderson;  Thanks for the look!  I particularly like the second take where the Johnnie student with his underwear breaking out the back of his trousers barrels head first into the Sprinturf and plants his face.

Priceless!

d3football.com poll is out and the Johnnies remain in 6th.  Tommies remain in a gifted 15th (for another week, at least.  We'll see what the Cobbers do with them on Saturday).

Other interesting things to note:  UWW is at second still.  Linfield has moved up to 7th.  Central hangs in 9th.  If things keep moving as they are, it could be a playoff of old this year in the West.  Linfield still must play away to Withworth and Willamette, so not all is coasty for them.  Also, Central finish their season for all the beans, I would guess, at Wartburg, so that conference is still to be decided.  And, of course, the J's must get past the mighty juggernaut that is USTD.  I'm actually more worried about Hamline, Auggie Tech and Carleton than I am USTD (as Gagliardi pointed out, they always find a way to lose).

EDIT: I should also note that Bethel get 45 points.  I think they are the best two loss team in the nation and deserve many of the votes that Ohio Northern are collecting.

I don't think the Cobbers are out of consideration either.  They beat #8 (at the time), lost to #6 (at the time), and lost to a highly rated Bethel. A win-out for the Cobbers, particularly if they thump UST (at #15) this coming weekend could put them in consideration as well.

14 stroke lead for the Johnnies over UST(d) going into the final round of the MIAC tourney.  Come on Johnnies!!!!!!!!!

The cobbers have had two weeks to prepare for a tough UST team.  If the cobbers take care of the ball and chew up the clock I think they have a good chance to beating UST.

Thanks.
Much as described on the radio.
The comment about rushing on the field being bush league is valid. BUT the emotion was real and I will hand it to all the fans - they got off the field very orderly and let the game finish .
Was the Grand Old Man up top at the end of the game? I'd be concerned for his safety if he wasn't.
You are lamenting the red cups but you can bet NCAA will have a conversation with event security.
