57--why would it not be good if John's son took over the head coaching duties?

Duff-where are you at for grad school?

MR-you and me keep losing karma like crazy.  I didn't post for 5 days and went from +10 to -3.  Those karma theives are sneaking around.  Thats all I got.

Mr.Shoes

Jimmy isn't nearly the Coach John is, and while no one really is, Gary and Mike Grant both have plenty of experience (and success!) as head coaches using John's system. Either could step right in and continue just what John has going for him without having to learn how to lead a team. Yes, Jim has many years of experience as an O-Coordinator, but to the best of my knowledge, that's all the experience he has.

Take the rest of this however you'd like... I don't know Mr. Grant, but Gary is definitely more personable and player-friendly than Jim. I don't think I've ever heard a bad word uttered toward him. I've lost count of the number of people who can't stand Jim. A system like SJU's can't run if the players don't like or trust the head coach.
Nice day, huh?

Same here. I missed three days to attend my grandmother's funeral and ended up down by 11.

Some people don't like the truth. :)

I'm not sure Grant would want to come in and fill John's shoes-- there is a lot of pressure replacing Gags, and as a relative outsider (compared to Gary), the adjustment period would be difficult.  He's got a great thing going at EP, and he can't do much wrong there. Still, who ever knows?

I don't know how PLU fell off so quickly after Frosty, since Scott is himself personable, likable, and a good coach.  Could it be that Linfield and Willammette have done a better job at getting the kids that otherwise would have been Lutes?  I'd think Gary all the way-- it keeps consistency in the program, he handles recruiting now already, and manages the day-to-day of at least the defense.

Don't forget about pick-ems!

MR,
I live on the edge ;D  You can wrap the test tube in paper towels or something to be safer.

Cobbernation,
No grad school for me.  I am employed at a pharmaceutical company.  Also, see Shoe's response on the Jim G. situation.  I might add that I've met Mike Grant several times and he comes across as very personable.  Gary would be excellent, as well.

If you look, PLU has gradually gone townhill for the past 3-4 years (prior to Frosty's retiring).  And again, it's only bee 3-4 years.  This year was down but I suspect the LUTEs will be back.  Linfield had some less than decent (but still winning seasons) in recent times as well......

From Shooter today:

St. John's John Gagliardi, 79, whose 432 victories are the most in college football coaching history, on whether he'll coach again next year: "I think I owe it to the people who speculate on whether I'm coming back to come back. If I quit now, they won't have anything to talk about, and I'd hate to deprive them of that topic of conversation."

Willy Wonka

I've heard terrible things about Jimmy Gags and, from watching his terribly demonstrative shinanigans on the sidelines, it appears to be well warranted. You can get away with that as an assistant (when daddy is head coach anyway), but I doubt it would fly as a head coach.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

As a coach or as a representative of his respective institution? I'll give you one, but not the other  :-*

Willy,
I'm curious as to what "shinanigans" you're speaking of.  Care to share, either on the board or by PM?

Maroon&Gold

From what I have heard through the grapevine the last couple years, I would come to the same opinion about Jimmy G. that most of you have put forth.

But don't you think that after such success with the O-Coordinator job he would atleast look like a good candidate.  I am sure Daddy might be able to pull a couple strings as well.
RB George Rogers, about the upcoming season:
"I want to rush for 1,000 or 1,500 yards, whichever comes first."

Mr.Shoes

Jimmy might have had success as O-Coordinator, but John still devises most of the plays and does as much or more work with the offense than does Jim. I'm going to go out on a limb here, but as much as people think John is a figurehead, my money says that Jimmy is much more of a figurehead than is his father.
Nice day, huh?
