SUMMIT!!!!!

See, that's the Punto Paradox:  Even when he doesn't suck, he sucks.
that is perhaps the best summation of Puke-O I've come across.  I am dying to find out what dirt he has on Gardy. His "talent" doesnt keep him in a MLB uniform. He makes me yearn for Deeny Hocking (not Hecker)

I don't know if anyone saw the scores in the star trib today.  But Martin Luther absolutely crushed Northwestern.  9-7!

Why wait for the Strib when the scores are on D3football.com?

Let's see:

Nick Punto - "scrappy" utility infielder - will take a walk but no power at all, can run a bit, prone to slumps, OPS+ career of 74. (100 is 'average' - higher the better).

Ron Gardenhire - "scrappy" utility infielder - no power, impatient, not a base stealer, prone to slumps, OPS+ career of 62.

Punto is Gardenhire with more speed and patience. Ergo, Gardy loves Punto. Same reason he loves Tolbert.

I wouldn't mind having Punto on the bench (or Tolbert) but never getting more than 150 PAs a year. Yeesh!

For those that browse with a Blackberry or similar mobile device, it appears that gojohnnies.com now comes with a browser recognizing low-bandwidth interface.  Nice innovation.  If any of the folks here know any of the folks there, please pass on a thank-you.

Actually, it doesn't seem to recognize browsers off the home page, bid did on a deep twitter link.  Odd.

Anyway, here is the mobile device home page: http://www.gojohnnies.com/mobile/index.aspx

Vic: Duly noted.  This will be prominently mentioned in TDT's column this week.  Lots of interesting things were observed at USTD this afternoon...

TDT;  That's good cuz DustySJU won't have to call you with a deadline or have early week brainstorming session to discuss story lines.

Saturday should be a dandy.

The results of the poll are interesting, so far. If the game is close, looks like the consensus is that SJU wins.

Always nice to see the Johnnies featured on WCCO tv yesterday afternoon with Mike Max. The first touchdown by Redding was featured.

Previously, Max had been touting the Tommies and regularly showing  clips of their games.

I guess that makes two guys named Max who have been touting the Tommies.  When are we going to get our own Max's game report on the USTD - Cobber game?

I shall note that I spent about 15 minutes @ UST today it was a paltry excuse for a homecoming.  They may well challenge the Jays on Saturday but their homecoming sucked the proverbial ASS!  Why anyone D3 football player would play anywhere other than Collegeville is hard to understand.

::) ::) ::) ::)

Well faunch, comments like that might be a good place to start.

I would like to clarify my comment.  My point was that for a homecoming the environment @ UST was rather blah.  Their "stadium" wasn't even filled and as a I walked across the campus during the 4th quarter it was void of people.  Again it perplexes me why any kid would choose to play college football at school that has smaller crowds than many high school games.  I was at a Cretin/Stillwater game at UST a couple years ago and it was a bigger crowd than UST's homecoming yesterday.
Also...You think I would learn to not come home from a party and post comment after midnight, after I've had a couple.

So the kids need to play for crowds?  Not every kid feels the need to play for a bunch of alumni they don't know.  Some players...MOST players... play to play, not to appease others.

Is playing in front of thousands of people great?  Yes, it's an electric feeling, but if you need that to get up for a game, then your playing for all the wrong reasons.  After the opening minute, it's all the same whether there are 1,000 people or 10,000.

Maybe the kids liked the coaches somewhere else better.  Maybe they like the system better.  Maybe they feel they can maximize their talent somewhere else.  Maybe they want to get a chance to play right away, and SJU wasn't the place to do it.  Maybe they felt that their teammates at the place other than SJU were a better vibe for them.  Maybe, they could afford a different place much easier than SJU.  Maybe the place was going to set them up for their future better.  MAYBE, JUST MAYBE, SJU was not the right choice for them.

D O.C.

You possibly left out 'maybe they like a campus in the city.'

Mike Max is a Piper.  I'd be willing to be that had something to do with this.

In all seriousness, I almost found myself at Hamline.  In the end, my full-ride at SJU came through*, and I am very glad that I ended up there.
