Just a random question ... how many playoff games has bethel won it its history?

ZERO and counting
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Johnnie Red

I think Bethel's playoff record is matched by Linfield's record against the Johnnies: 0-3. I know, I know, Linfield is still alive in the playoffs. :-\

MonroviaCat

Come on now, you had to drag Linfield down with Bethel?  Yeah, I know my cats are 0-3 vs. the Johnnies but the last 2 years the Johnnies haven't been able to bring their game to the Cats.....Pretty sure Cats would have Monkey Stomped you guys last year and once we beat UWW tomorrow we can assume we beat the Johnnies this year too.......But let's agree on one thing  Bethel and Linfield should not be compared....It's like comparing Chocolate and Dog Poop......  :D

Johnnie Red.....I'm glad you at least recognize that Linfield is still alive.

And in honesty, I wish the Johnnies were alive as well.   Hosting the Johnnie faithful has been a very good thing, despite the wrong team winning the last couple of times out   :(.    I'd rather be sharing football talk with you than to be all hung up about the game to come.   The Warhawk faithful aren't likely to be as much fun as the Johnnies.

In regards to PLU going downhill with the retirement of Frosty and could it happen to SJU.  SJU sounds very similiar to PLU.  PLU also has a winning reputation and kids want to play there.

My question, probably better asked on the NWC board is what effect, if any, has there been on PLU by two small state schools moving up to Division II.  I know there are a lot of d3 and NAIA schools in Minnesota but are there many D2 schools in Minnesota and Wisconsin?

MonroviaCat

Interesting question.  DOn't know the answer but I believe the teams that moved up to DII were in the same conference with Linfield, and the now NWC prior to their move so I would think any effect would be on all of the small private schools that make up the NWC.  I think PLU is just going through a down turn AND they have a lot of competiion from Linifield, Willamette and Whitworth in recent years whereas 5-10 years ago some of those teams were less competitive......  PLU will be back I think and maybe sooner than we expect.

Speedy,

First off, I don't think John G. will be giving up the reins anytime soon, so who will take over is irrelevant.

There are a decent amount of DII schools in Minnesota, none in Wisconsin, though.  I can think of about 6 DIIs in Minnesota.  Also tons of DIII schools.  There's been rumors of St. Thomas moving to DII, but they are largely unfounded.  I don't see any changes in the MIAC anytime soon.

A tradition unrivaled...
MIAC Champions: '32, '35, '36, '38, '53, '62, '63, '65, '71, '74, '75, '76, '77, '79, '82, '85, '89, '91, '93, '94, '95, '96, '98, '99, '01, '02, '03, '05, '06, '08, '09, '14, '18, '19, '21, '22, '24
National Champions: '63, '65, '76, '03

They were all in the same conference, at least when I played (21 years ago).  Part of my point is that guys who are not quite good enough for D1 are likely to stay in-state (the d3 rosters I checked are heavily weighted that way).  I think will look around at their options.  If you can go D2 and get assistance??  why not that instead of the best d3 in your area.  Conversely is Linfield "helped" by not having many d2 or 1AA teams in the state?  If there had been a good d2 team in Oregon would the d1 "reject"(no offense intended) have picked Linfield to go home to.

I'm new to posting so I don't know much etiquete.
If we continue this thread? should we switch to the NWC board?

I'll be pulling for the CATS tomorrow.  Don't know if I'll be able to get the internet broadcast.  Will you be posting updates during the game?

speedybigboy

Duffman,

very irrelevant, but isn't most of what's said here just that?

No d2's in Wisconsin?  In that case if my theory holds true than the WIAC should be at the tops of the d3, due to lack of competition in the recruiting.

WIAC schools have always had D2 size and speed.  Biggest guys we ever went against were in the WIAC.  I think they get guys that have a D1 or D2 mentality that gets beat by the D3 mentality of love for the game and desire.

Duff-- I think there are 8 D-2 schools in MN-- UMD, SCSU, Bemidji, Moorhead St, Mankato St, SW State, Winona St and SW St/Marshall. Plus the Dakota and Iowa D2 & I-AA school consider MN fertile recruiting ground.

RE:rumors of UST moving to D2....Sid the Shill has mentioned UST moving to D-I, but that wont happen (he seems to think they can do that in hockey and stay D-3 in other sports which is dead wrong). Plain and simple, UST feels its philosphy fits in with D-3 and that the MIAC and D-3 are where it belongs. I dont see that chaning in the nxt 20 years or more. So SJU can count on beating UST in football and losing to UST in all other sports for a long, long time  :)

oh yeah, and as much as it pains me to pick a WIAC team to win anything (except maybe TDT's enrollment there), UWW will shut down Linfeld. As close as Concordia came to pulling it off, I think UWW's defense is even tougher tha Cord's ... any doubt, look at SJU's TO count vs. UWW & comapre it to vs. Concordia

finally....did anyone happen to see some of the majors of some of these Academic All-Americas? Most are in some pretty demanding fields (see Hawn, Kessler, and most of the others)....but one (D2) dude made first team majoring in "Corporate Recreation" -- I kid you not.

What dahell is Corporate Recreation? It sounds like organizing Viking Love Boats type outings for CEOs

Miac:  Your analysis of Linfield and Cobbers is off for the following reason:  Yes, the game was close (if 2 TD difference is close) but the Cats also turned the ball over 4 times which is not typical for them.  As far as I can tell none of those was really forced either.  At least 2 of them were on drives where the cats were driving down to score.  In other words, had the cats played like they usually do, the likely could have easily scored 42 points.  Like I've said on other boards, this game is going to be won by the team that turns the ball over least.  You also need to consider that UWW scored off of St. Johns good defense becuase they constantly had the ball (due to the Johnnies  8 turnovers)....  I think both teams this week are going to bring their A game and points are gonna be scored.
