I will put my money on Haugen and Fasching to devise a scheme to contain the Tommie receiver. I can't remember the last time two sophmores beat SJU and I don't think it will happen Saturday.

You're right, last year Flannery was a sophomore and Aakre was only a freshman when BU beat SJU!

And before you guys get all up in my grill, I realize that it says 'last year' in my post.  Believe me, it was painful to write...

True...but it was not really the Bethel offense that won that game...it was your D and an inability to put the ball in the end zone on more than one occasion from inside the 20 by the Johnnies offensive offense.

Hate to interrupt the Johnnie - Tommie love fest but....I have to work the next 4 day shifts. Do you guys have a webcast of this game up north, or at least live stats for me to follow at work!

Thanks, good luck to both teams, stay healthy!

Live Stats yes...webcast no...play by play from numerous sources...UST, SJU and possibly neutral from the DIII.com boys

Yes, neutral webcast there. Promise to get all the kickoffs on.  ;)

Pat,

Are you going to do a half time interview with Touchdown Tommy?  You could interview him on where the best YMCA cots are in the MSP area.

Faunch, thanks again for bringing the pork to the Stiftungsfestivities. Should be a culinary delight! Tommie fans, you are welcome to join us for the tailgate party. We are located in the parking lot above the scoreboard end of the field. The party is usually going by 10:00 a.m. with a few of us there by 9:00 a.m. The Vikings cheerleaders will be at the party from 11:00 till noon. They will have swimsuit calendars for sale for anyone who is interested.

Shall I bring an offering of Hamm's? Or will that be covered?

As Life Safety will be lurking, give attention to discreet consumption... plastic mug, no obvious pouring from aluminum to plastic... it's a "don't show, don't sieze" policy...

This year was kind of the same...from my count the Johnnies were inside the 20 5 or 6 times and only scored 13 points.  If they had put in one or two TD's we wouldn't be talking about "the kick."  I've thought about it for a couple weeks and I think if I'm Bethel I take my chances w/ a D3 team kicking a 49 yard field goal to win a game.  Yes their play calling on the last possession was conservative at best, but they forced the Jays to kick a 49 yard field goal to win a game in the waning seconds.  Don't ever get the idea that I want to give BU any credit ;) ...but who really thought Gliadon was going to even get that ball 5 yards into the end zone?
Looking forward to Saturday.

Could we maybe get another port-a-potty delivered solely to store and pour beverages?  We could decorate it w/ all of our leftover plastic cups to identify it to everyone.

Touchdown Tommy

Yahtzee!!! Lots to get to this morning...

Benchwarmer: 2 Terdy paks of Hamm's should be sufficient.  1 for you.  1 for the Mayor.

Faunch: TDT is salivating over this pork shoulder.  Should be excellent.  Do you have some good rolls?

11: Easy now, I don't want to have to go "all Bluenote" on you.

TC: I believe you pissed off Clark.

Lastly, can someone explain to TDT what the Vikings cheerleaders have to do with the Tommie/Johnnie football game on Saturday?

USTBench, the offering of the Hamm's would be great. When you bring it, make sure you have it in a bag or something of that nature so no one sees that you have an adult beverage with you.

Just found out that we will not have the bikini ice fishing team in attendance for the Stiftungsfestivities this Saturday. :'( www.bikiniicefishing.com. Hopefully we can have them next season. They were at the EelPout Festival this past February in Walker. And yes, they do have nice tails. ;)

I'll get on the horn with Veek right now.  He indicated to me numerous times how disappointed he was that TDT couldn't be at the game when there was a PINK porta potty....

Redtooth- youre comparing 27 game totals with 15 game totals. Id hope the 27 game totals are larger.  :)

On a per-game (94.1 v. 88.3) and per-catch (13.2 v. 13.6) basis, the two are essentially even at this point in their careers.

Elliott had a phoneomenal junior & senior season... who knows if Waldvogel will fall short, equal or surpass?

Maniac...yes Waldvogel has put up some good stats, and he may have stats comparable to Blake some day...but as illustrated by Red Tooth he has alot of work to do to catch him.  Don't even get me started on the schedule UST has this year with stat padding games against Mac and a Northwestern team they ripped 41-0 last year.

That said this week's game will be tight, within a 3-7 point margin in my opinion unless some major mistakes are made...and taken advantage of.  Maniac aren't you thinking it will be Tommies 33 Johnnies 17?

Regardless of the outcome, there could be a re-match down the road IF both win out after this game...wouldn't that be wild??  However there is much football to be played before that is decided.

USTBench, how appropriate to mention Johnnies and golf balls! On October 5 the Johnnies won the MIAC golf tournament and got the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament next spring. Second place team?? UST (and Gustavus). Could be a harbinger of things to come this Saturday. :D

At halftime Saturday, former SJU golfer Joe Daly'09 will be presented the 2008-09 College Sporting News Male Senior Student Athlete Award for the MIAC.

UST's Katie Theisen was the recipient on the female side.

Previous winners:   2008- PJ Theisen (UST) and Maria Bye (UST)
2007- Kirby Carr (Bethel) and Hailey Harren (GAC)
2006- Matt Hawn (SJU) and Megan Vig (Carleton)
After the game, the king and pawn go into the same box.

Is the Tommie offensive line really that good or will they be exposed this weekend? ???

Line is pretty good: http://www.tommiesports.com/ftbl/news/Josh_10-13.html...top notch for D3.

That blog post was just silly and amateur!  I won't argue against the quality of player Ostrue is, he is definitely a top flight D3 lineman.

But seriously, "-Josh's parents love him. It's not just about football for the South St. Paul native, who has a 3.00 gpa and aspires to attend medical school."

What!?!?!?!  Josh's parents love him.  Stop the presses!

Then again, I guess when you're a Tommie, you can't take for granted that your parents will love you  ;D ;D

As for the 3.00 gpa and plans for medschool, for his sake, here's to hoping he absolutely dominates the MCAT...

Well from an objective standpoint 3.00 from a good academic MIAC school goes further than it would say you received a 3.00 from Mankato St. or Winona...I think we can all agree on that. That being said, my point was that UST has a good O-Line.

Maybe we could get The Rat's to deliver their Homecoming "Trojan Rat" and use it as a "pouring" room... it could also double as a kissing booth.

With the looming "starvation" of the medical industry, we probably are looking at a whole lot of people with 3.00 GPA's and lower, as the only ones willing to go into that profession, with all the time and effort that it entails. The "best and the brightest" will probably opt for a more lucrative career.

Maybe this is a better indication?

http://www.tommiesports.com/ftbl/news/TeamWeek_9-22.html

Also UST ranks 16th in rushing offense (257.6); seventh in scoring (44.0 ppg); 19th in total offense (465.2 ypg) two or less sacks allowed.

Wartman is 11th in rushing (132.0 ypg), first in scoring (18.6 ppg) and 26th in all-purpose yards (158.6 ypg).

To me stats like this show that the line has definately been doing some heavy lifting this season.

UWEC is a good team, but I dont understand why people keep thinking UWRF was a quality opponent, the same UWRF that squeeked by NW 20-17 the next week.
