MIAC fans will never cheer for MUC(k).... NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd rather ...gulp... cheer for a WIAC team so long as the Walnut and Bonze stays in the west!

Cheering for MUC(k) is the equivalent to cheering for the Yankees and the mere thought of that gives me a nasty taste in my mouth that not even Hamm's can chase out... maybe it can... I'm going to go get a Hamm's to see if I can get it out

Congrats to the cats on a good run once again.  Sounds like beaver is a tough runner and ran all over the cat's D.  I heard that he is only a soph., which means he will probably be playing on Sunday's in the future.  In the words of Linfield broadcaster (insert name here) about the Cobbers being up on the cats then the cats pulling away for the win last week "It just wasn't meant to be for the underdog"  WOW, what a punch in the stomach to the Cobbers.  Oh well.  I guess it wasn't meant to be for the cats to repeat, although the west is by far the toughest of the regions.  Playing 3 top 10 teams is no simple task and good job warhawks on the victory.  Beat Wesley.

Now we can join you in licking our wounds from a Warhawk attack.  The Beaver is for real and the Warhawks are a force.  I don't see anybody stopping their train on the way to picking up the Walnut and Bronze on the 17th.

Next year starts a new season and perhaps you'll let us have a chance to avenge our 0-3 defecit vs the Johnnies.
Let's hope we have enough experienced players to put together a strong team to compete at a very respectable level.

This year will take us awhile to come down from. We have the strongest Wildcat team I've ever seen and it wasn't enough.  My God what more's it going to take to get further down the play off road?  A change in scheduling perhaps?

WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!

I think most would agree that a team's stadium can tell you a bit about the quality of their program (there are clearly exceptions). I don't know a lot about Wesley, but I think they may need some bigger stands. Check out these pictures of their stadium:

There is a fine fairground roof that can be shipped out right away if Wesley needs it.
Oh! wait, they're away this week.

Congrats to UWW, who is a deserving West region representative!

On the topic of D3s/D2s in Minnesota, here is an article in today's SC Times about the Draddy Trophy.  Three Minnesota athletes are finalists (one at each level), including two in central Minnesota, and the St. Clown rag concentrates only on the SCSU finalist.  Don't mention that Mr. Hawn at SJU is rearing for Dental School or anything....  But in terms of the D-2 competitiveness in Minnesota, considering that UND across the river in Grand Forks is a D-2 powerhouse, and NDSU in Fargo was a D-2 powerhouse now in D-1AA, along with the overall NCC conference being perennially one of the best conferences in all of D-2 whose teams contend yearly for the D-2 walnut (though not this year- GVSU took out UND a few weeks ago), there is quite a bit of competition for recruits here.  The NCC is the big time D-2; the NSIC has Concordia-St.P and Winona State who will often contend for playoffs as well, and a few other squads, but is not to the competitive level as the NCC.  Univ of Mary, I believe, in Bismark, formerly a NAIA powerhouse, is moving to the NSIC, so that'll  mean even more TC kids being looked at.

Wahoo3, I think my MSHSL class AA high school has more seating than that Wesley stadium!

#92, sure Grant knows the program, and is close personal friends with Gags.  But he has been outside of the politics and day to day operation of the program.  He doesn't coach the SJU players currently.  That's all I was getting at.  His own program, though resembling Gags', is a bit different than the Gags program, albeit  in the details only.

Finally, MIAC maniac and I have had discussions about this in the past, and I don't see D-2 as a good fit for the Tommies, and I don't think the Toms will want to compete with 5 other D-1 hockey programs in Minnesota for players.  However, the UMN men's and women's basketball programs have an abundance of Minnesota talent, and basketball requires only 12 scholarships per team instead of 18 for hockey and 60-some for football.  Considering that UST has upgraded and sunk money into their football fields, their hockey rink, and their baseball/softball complex in the past few years, there is only one revenue sport that they haven't yet touched.  Since their basketball coach is the AD, doesn't that seem a little odd?

Johnnie esquire;  You'll soon see SCSU, UND as well as Mankato St. move to I-AA and subsequently a demise of D2 athletics.  What will be left is two divisions - big college and small college, scholarship and nonscholarship.  There will always be great competition for players, just create an atmosphere that attracts the type of people/players needed to foster the Benedictine way!

I agree, Dusty-- the economics of a D-2 athletics program do not make much sense unless you are a UND.  And even then, what fun is it traveling to Marshall, MN to take on the mighty Mustangs?  Give me the glitz and glamour of the Poinsetta Bowl, or give me the love and pride of the Stagg bowl any day over THAT.

For administrative purposes, two classes would be pretty big.  I think the NCAA will have to suck it up and make four sooner or later...but that's another topic for another thread.

D2 = Not big or fast enough to play DI, not smart enough to play DIII  ;D

The only good thing about D2 is the knucklepuck!!!! (Oh wait, that is the movie)   ;)

This just in:  OneArmedScot is predicting that the Hamline Pipers will win the MIAC next season.  Word is that he is also picking Carleton, Auggie Tech, and Bethel to beat the Johnnies. :o

JR,

Will the Stiftungsfest burger be making the trip to Orlando?

Bus Driver, I could bring some Stiftungsfest burger along for the Capital1 Bowl to go with all the beer that will be consumed by the Badger fans at the pre-game festivities. Knowing how they like to tailgate outside of Camp Randall, I am wondering if they will be doing the same outside the stadium in Orlando.

I know there is a pre-game party by the stadium that starts at 9:00 a.m. I am going to assume this is a catered event since there is an admission fee. Bus Driver or anyone else out there, do they tailgate at the Capital1 Bowl?
