Just noticed Adam Herbst was listed as a back judge for Saturday's game in Collegeville.
This is the same former All-MIAC Johnnie Wide Receiver from the mid-90s?

Gags can't be happy about another one going to the "dark side."

SagatagSam,

I still have your cow cup...I'm sorry about that, I was upset and left hastily. However, it allowed me to put off doing my dishes one more day as I was able to enjoy my OJ this morning. Except I realized it tasted like Hamm's and defeat and that made my OJ not so good. BTW, thanks for nothing TDT...what am I gonna do with 14 cans of Hamm's?

In addition, I'm not so sure Gags is that upset about former Johnnies on MIAC officiating crews  :)

No worries about the cow cup. It's not one that I was particularly attached to (at least not as much as my Pizza Hut Kids Krew cups). That just means you have to come back to Collegeville next year when the Toms look to disrupt SJU homecoming.
At least you'll have a cup to put all of the Hamm's from TDT in.  ;D
Sing us a song, you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright.

Do have to mention that the storming the field at the end was pretty lame.  There are certain times when that's warranted, this was not one of them.

I can only remember 3, maybe 4 games in my 20 years of watching games in Collegeville when the students stormed the field.  One was after the Simpson playoff game in the late nineties.  Truth is a full scale brawl practically broke out between the two teams at the end of the game.  Luckily the student section was nowhere near the size as yesterday.  It could have been ugly.
The other was 409...not much reason to explain that one.
The other two were Bethel and St. Thomas this year.
In defense of the students....they have shown more exuberance and passion than I ever witnessed in the late 80's.  The Bethel and St. Thomas games were big.  Bethel had beat us 3 years straight and it looked like it would be 4.  After watching the Vikings game today a 49 yard last minute field goal is even hard for pros.  Yesterday's game had 13,000 fans and a Tommie team that was trying to prove that they were ready to take control of the MIAC.  It's what rivalries are about  They didn't tear down the goal post or trash anything that I know of.
I can almost guarantee that if BU and St. Thomas win those games their students would have stormed the SJU field.

Storm the field?  Big deal.  Close games, major rivalries.  If they storm the field after STO then you've got a complaint, until then you just have one more reason to hate the Johnnies:  not only do they win but their fans are happy they win.  And care.  If you didn't tie the shoe-laces of the chess club members, then CC's fans could storm after a win as well.

Wow, I'm surprised no one agreed with me about storming the field.  This is something I think happens too often in sports.  I wasn't putting down the Johnnie fans or students, and said nothing about Carleton, so I'm not sure why I took a shot for that.  I get it, you think Carleton fans are all nerds that don't care about sports.  They're not, get over it, we just study a lot and still compete with you on the field/court/playing field

I just think that storming the field is something that should occur after an absolutely amazing win.  As this article suggests:  http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=caple/090921&sportCat=ncf  a win over a #1 ranked team or for a conference championship would probably qualify.  But a regular season win over a team you haven't lost to at home in over a decade?  That's ranked what, 10 spots worse than you?  I would argue the same thing for the Bethel game.  The fact that there are only 2 other times you can remember other than this year should point to storming the field being held for a special win.

The fans get to be on the field after the game, why not wait until then to celebrate with your team?

This was a great win, but not a special win.

I'm going to agree with K on this one.  Storming the field is something that should be reserved for an upset.  I have nothing against fans going onto the field after the game at the D3 level, but rushing it is entirely different.   Especially when the winning team did their best to blow it late.

Any more discussion of rushing the field?

What a great game today.

Looks like TC, TDT, and Maniac will have some crow to eat at our next tailgate.  I'll bet my last dollar that TDT won't consume his portion, though.  He'll probably just hide it in a pocket of his nice girly winter coat.  And whatever you do, please do not ask him about his NICE winter coat or you will get a 15 minute story about he searched for a deal forever and then scored a girly version at an 80 % discount.  Who cares!!

Nice seeing OAS, his bride to be, Wonka, ROR, ROR Jr, and being able to meet Oz today, albeit briefly.

I think that today may have been the largest Stiftungsfest we have ever had.  I'm looking forward to next week.

GO JOHNNIES!!!

What is with TDT and his winter wardrobe.... must be time for him to fly south with the rest of the snow birds.

My small pack of born and bread Minnesotans had no problem battling the pure sunshine and 45 degree weather with just a mere hoodie.

I hope TDT is around to see the end of the season.

TDT, love the coat.     You got style!     You had it on at the UWW game last fall and nary a word.     So what's with the ration of s%#@  you're getting for it?   Good thing I didn't let the fellas know I had on my LLBean silk long underwear (excellent product by the way)  on or i would have heard about the lingerie!

I appreciate the compliments Larry, but I am not so sure fashion advice from a guy who wears Mr. Roger's cardigans is a good thing...

Beating a dead horse?

I made a comment about it after the game and everyone said I was wrong, with little reasoning.  Then, I gave my points as to why it was inappropriate, and no one responded to my points or tried to argue against them except WashedUp.  I assume this is because everyone concedes to my points.

Some quick thoughts about last Saturday:

Best new thing at the tailgate: Faunch's pulled pork. Wish I had some of that right now.

Worst new thing: Vikings cheerleaders. WTF?

Classless act - Home team: TDT filching on his bet, plus giving it away to a Tommie. WTF?

Classless act - Visitors: tie between the 6 or so USTD playas who made a point to walk through our tailgate crowd just to plow through (how 'bout an "excuse me" at least?) and the entire Tommie squad jumping on the SJU logo at mid-field pre-game. If you fellas wanna do your ghey dance, do it on your sideline.

Best dressed fan in men's clothing: LBean again, duh.

Best dressed fan in women's clothing:
TDT in his mom's coat.

Best headgear at the game:
My new Hawks cap, all the way from Australia. Thanks Oz!

Best thing to happen to a guy not at the game: BDB's award at Stout. I hope he does visit soon. We're running out of cups.

Of course you do. And the rest of the world assumes that the horse has been dead for quite some time now.

1. I saw the UST players in warm-up gear casually walking through a parking lot before the game. They "plowed" nobody and seemed to enjoy the atmosphere.

2. You know what's "gay?" Using "gay" as a negative adjective. Your homophobia should be more understated.

Since you must've been by my side the whole day, I'm sure you saw all what I saw, so I stand corrected. Thank you.

And you know what's really "ghey"? Telling someone that using "ghey" as a negative adjective is "ghey". And assuming homophobia.  :-*

Maybe it's not homophobia...maybe it's just the wit of your average high school sophomore.

Finsleft, sorry you didn't enjoy the Vikings cheerleaders. They really appreciated the opportunity to be there. Hopefully next year when we have the bikini ice fishing team in attendance you will consider them the best new thing. ;) Another option would be to invite some people from Walmart.

by your own definition,  no homophobia on  Fins's part.

I saw the pregame stomp by the USTD team on midfield Johnnie logo.    perhaps the stomping was not gay, but the swaying back and forth with interlocked arms definitely was.    Throw in the chant they did and it was over the top.

Who said [predominantly] white men can't dance?

  Tsk tsk.
