Also, Caruso doesn't have to go to John and profess fealty, but he's coached for 2 years in the MIAC with the winningest coach in the history of college football and he hasn't seen fit to speak to him other than to say "Nice win" after the end of two games?

Do you really think it's THAT unusual for the coaches at rival schools to not speak to each other? I'm sure Jim Smith and Steve Fritz are cordial since it's been 20+ years...but do you think Lane Kiffin stays up at night whispering sweet nothings to Urban Meyer? Does Rick Neuheisel have Pete Carroll on speed dial? Not when there is this and this kind of stuff going on when an upstart tries to upset the balance.

Get a clue, old man. Gags has earned his stripes — to say the least — but that doesn't mean everyone has to be his best friend or worship him immediately upon joining the conference, even if you and your son came halfway across the nation to do just that. This is much ado about nothing.

It's easy to show up and cheer for a team that has been a national power for as long as most posters have known the program. You Johnnies have it easy in that respect. Guys like Bench and I have suffered through more than you can imagine with our respective football programs. I can only hope that Haugen does the same thing for GAC that Caruso has done for UST. It's been far too long since Gustie football was relevant.

And I actually stood with a number of Johnnie students who LOVED the construction crew bit by UST. It's those type of fans who make the D3 atmosphere truly special. Hopefully the SJU students can come up with some sort of response if/when they meet again...cause I'm guessing those props will get passed down for as long as Caruso stays in town.

Willy you might be surprised to know that all of the basketball coaches seem to get along well on the surface, I am sure there are a few who don't always see eye to eye, but for the most part these guys generally get along...

Here is another thing that might surprise you, the Johnnies coaches and Steve Johnson at Bethel get along rather well, some of that comes from the Gary Fasching-Steve Johnson ties to St. Cloud Cathedral, but they have also spent some time together at coaching clinics as well.  It might not be as black and white as you think...

Ole fans, join us for the Stiftungsfestivities this Saturday in Collegeville. We are located in the parking lot above the scoreboard end of the field. Most of the crowd shows up by 10:00 a.m. Bring a culinary delight to share if you like.

Basketball is a completely different sport and scenario.  Not only are you not trying to physically destroy the other team, but the coaches are also separated by a scorers table rather than the width of a football field.  Being so close makes it more of a priority to not hate the guy, or at least look indifferent.

To add, no I don't think Caruso has to say anything more than "Nice game" afterwards to Gagliardi.

Hey Wonka - Watch that agist stuff! I'm old enough to have attended SJU when GAC  WAS an MIAC power.

TDT thinks that Wonka is way over the line (per is usual).  Wonka is the ultimate antagonist and Johnnie hater.  It is clearly starting to affect his sanity.  That rant last night was completely uncalled for.  No way in the world this cat says that in person (see: last weekend in Collegeville) to W. Clark and co.  You owe them a personal apology Wonka.

For the last time, this past Saturday was my son's birthday.  We were hosting a party that began at 5 p.m.  I left when I did to insure that I would be home for the start of my son's party.  Every time that you or TC criticize me for leaving when I did just makes you both look like bigger asses than you already are.  Keep slinging your %&it.  It may eventually stick to someone.

Veek, you're to be commended for being a father first.  There is no football game or team that should take precedent over your kids.

Ice fishing isn't that far off.  Any of you guys getting excited yet?

I'm gonna watch for when the Duluth PD auctions off their confiscated property. Might just have to drive up and bid on that thing. Sweet ride-cup holders and everything.

How did WW not make the poll above?

Final word on Caruso: He is not obligated to say anything to Gagliardi, but if he doesn't he ends up with the likes of WW defending him.

Final word on football coach etiquette: If football coaches are supposed to hate each other and be the epitome of rude, why is it that the seven other MIAC coaches manage to demonstrate common courtesy and say hello?  The bastards aren't properly rude.  No wonder GAC sucks.

Badgerwarhawk, always ready for some ice fishing as long as it is done at the EelPout Festival, which will be February 19-21, 2010 in Walker on Leech Lake. The Bikini Ice Fishing Team will be making another appearance.

SUMMIT!!!!!

How do any of the posters know whether Caruso and Gags speak with each other? Seems to me like a lot of venomous chatter based on hearsay and assumption.

Personally. I doubt any of the coaches spend a lot of time interacting socially with coaches from other schools, primarily because they are so focused on their job and that job consumes a lot of time and energy, leaving little of either for anything beyond their families. But for all I (or any of us on here) know the MIAC football coaches could have a weekly wine tasting get-together.
