FYI: TDT called an audible with LBean for Saturday's festivities.  Hint hint look for "Scouting the Auggies" on Tuesday....

105: Tracy is the Tommies man now.  2 straight starts.  He is the better QB hands down.  Eerily reminiscent of Mr. Ryan Keating.  I sure hope the Johnnies don't run into USTD in the playoffs.  This Tommies team beats SJU 7 or 8 out of 10 times in my expert opinion...

Interesting thing, USTd football under Caruso.     If this was done before, then I missed it.    But I see on Snelling Ave.  (closest to Macalester but still near the USTd campus) and the trendy Grand Ave. area, this also in St. Paul,  USTd football posters in business windows.    Lists the schedule and some photos.    Good size.      Get this.   Even my barber has one in her window.    She barely speaks English (and a great barber).   Someone steamrolled her into putting one up.     So they are really pushing their brand.

Re sjusection 105 last two posts re Gopher football.  Right on.    Last night on TV, every time (at least during second half when I tuned in)  the camera panned to Gopher coach Brewster,  he looked lost.    Dazed and confused.    I'm not sure he can coach or recruit.

Remember the da [Chicago]  Bears skit  from Saturday Night Live several years ago  with Chris Farley and George Wendt (Norm) and a couple others?   Sitting around a table talking in the exaggerated Chicago accent?     did you see on the Gopher telecast last night the guy with slicked  back dark hair, white shirt and dark tie, sunglasses, maybe even a pencil-thin mustache,  in the blue sweater with "Bears" in large letters across the chest?      Dead ringer for one of those characters.      Hilarious.   Best part of the game.

4. Why ...  must you always fight traffic to get out of a restroom?

Because the urgency for those trying to get into the restroom is always greater than for those trying to leave. Having separate "in" and "out" doors just means you have two entrances.

The "out door" could have a one way gate that we used with cattle on the farm I remember as a youngster growing up.  ;)

105 and esq's consecutive posts illustrate "glass half empty - glass half full" thinking in a nutshell.

bennie. I too, found the Iowa/Indiana tilt entertaining. The one Indiana TD that was overruled was particularly interesting. On seeing it originally, I thought, "Did he land in bounds?" Then on the first replay from above, it looked as though the receiver had kicked up some of the tire dust with his foot, in bounds. Then on the low angle replay, you could always see daylight between his foot and the ground. I said to myself, "Myself, they're going to over turn this one." Of course I was right, and Bob Davey, who gets paid the big bucks as an analyst was wrong, and continued to press his opinion, like the idiot he is.

Being from Indiana, my girls were excited when I turned on the Iowa / Indiana tilt and the Hoosiers were ahead. Within 15 minutes, the Hoosiers were down 11. Oops.

The NWC board notes a new SOS, here are some results:

Team Regional
record Regional
win % Opponents
win % O-O win %
20 Huntingdon  6-0  1.000  0.635  0.585
73 St. John's  8-0  1.000  0.547  0.619
92 Central  9-0  1.000  0.519  0.539
93 Linfield  7-0  1.000  0.518  0.516
109 Wesley  5-0  1.000  0.500  0.659
111 Alfred  7-0  1.000  0.500  0.602
117 Monmouth  9-0  1.000  0.492  0.485
142 Mount Union  7-0  1.000  0.469  0.562
146 UW-Whitewater  6-0  1.000  0.466  0.614

Interesting changes if this took into account the games yesterday, Oxy loss really hurt Linfield, along with UWSP loss for Central. On the otherside, both UWRF and UWEC won yesterday, helping SJU.

Wow what a difference a week makes...too bad that RF and EC play each other on the final week, but I think EC has a winnable game this week vs Platteville, RF is on the road at UWSP but hopefully the Falcons can pull the upset...

Auggies did not perform up to their talent, hope the Js don't take cakewalk attitude into this one

VOJ: Will you be in Bloomington tonite for the pucks?  TDT was persuaded by "The Trickster" yesterday at USTD to possibly make an appearance tonite.  I'm sure you'd be glad to see TDT in the house...

105:  I personally view transferring as a cop out.  You get beat out for the position in the middle of the season by a player with better QB I.Q.  If you leave it shows you weren't dedicated to the program (see: USTD's kicker).  I also don't see any positions that Morse could make the change to.  He isn't built to play Defense and the Toms are loaded with underclassmen at virtually every position already.  I could potentially see the Toms play a "Two Headed Monster" if Morse shows more poise/better grasp for the offense next season.  For this year it appears that Caruso is gonna sink or swim with Dakota Tracy (and rightfully so).

Maniac: Appreciate the minor correction.  I saw you on the field yesterday, but you gotta turn up your hearing aid.  BTW: TDT (as well as pal TC) never jumped OFF the Tommies bandwagon...Cue W. Clark and 7 snarky comments NOW!!!

Mr. Rogers aka LBean: Funny you mention the USTD posters.  I made mention of this to my compatriot OneArmedScot over the Casburger (cheese, green pepper wheel, and crispy bacon=ridiculously tasty) and a Flat Earth Brewery Porter at the Nook as they had one in the entryway.  He said they are all over town.

the one and only Jeff Brown handles the hockey play by play...hope the Js play well against the rivals...tonights game will be a good early indication of the improvement the Johnnies will show under Coach Schueller this year...

Friggin' Vikings.  WTF with that defense?  It really makes a guy mad, you know?

What I don't get is that they are so predictably chewed up by the passing game in the second half every week.  We play against someone like Baltimore or NO we'll have 50 points scored on us.

Wow.  I'd hate to hear your thoughts after a loss.  If only the Vikes had a chance to play Baltimore this season...

Re: SOS/OW%/OOW%

This has to be the most retarded ranking/selection criteria ever created.  The committee is really ranking the relative strength of the Johnnies based on what UW-River Falls does against UW-Platteville?  Central is being judged on Lakeland playing Rockford?  Does this make sense to anyone else?  Or how about the fact that all conferences, whether they are the OAC or the UMAC trend toward .500?  Would the Johnnies really have played a more difficult schedule if they replaced 4-4 UW-Eau Claire with (let me name a completely random cupcake...) 5-4 Northwestern?

This is one case that I think subjectively deciding SOS is much more reliable than doing so "objectively".

The question is, when a kid comes in because they buy into the hype of Brewster, (Jim Wacker Jr.) only to be rewarded with a nothing bowl game played on December 28,29 or 30 how long before High School coaches steer kids in other directions?. How long did Alverez or Barnett or Tiller take to turn cellar dwellers into contenders? Since Lou Holtz, who left because of the Golden Dome clause, the U has seemed to pick the wrong candidate for the Head Coach of the football program. Why can other perennial dismal programs seem to find success and the U of M  can't?

Again, I'd hate to hear what you have to say after a loss.

People do realize that there are outcomes that fall between "going 1-11 in 2007" and "OMFG!!!!  NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPZZZ!!!!!!!!!11", right?  Such as "7-6 with a bowl appearance in 2008" and wherever they finish this year.  Not even Glenn Caruso himself would be able to step on campus and take a team that had as little talent (and program prestige, for that matter) as the 2007 Gophers and turn them into a national championship contender in two years.

Take the recruit rankings with a grain of salt if you'd like, but Brewster has brought in more 3- and 4-star recruits than Wacker or Mason ever dreamed of (and a few of them even qualified academically!).  Heck, in Mason's last recruiting class one of the most highly touted recruits was some no-talent LB named Tommy Becker.

Does anyone really think that you can judge a college coach on three years, when most of the upperclassmen aren't even their own recruits?  I'm willing to give Brewster a little more rope to hang himself.  I think it's apparent that the quality of talent has started to improve.  Maybe if he can keep an offensive or defensive coordinator longer than a year they might be able to make the next step to a bowl game that everyone approves of.

Bite your tongue!

Circle November 1st 2009 (BTW :John Gagliardi's birthday- read about it on www.JohnnieFootball.com) on your calendar as the day I'm going on record stating that Glen Caruso WILL be the next head coach of the Golden Gophers and the Golden Gophers WILL be transformed into a national championship contender under the leadership Coach Caruso.

After a short two year stint with the Gophers and two national championships later, Coach Caruso will parlay this Big 10 success to the next logical step and he will land a head coaching job in the UFL and perhaps another crossing of paths with another former MIAC legend....... time will tell.

Mark it down, you heard it here first TC  ;)
