Nelly, I wouldn't ever turn it on for that, hell I haven't even watched a Vikings game all year, Hate the NFL. Someone should make a DVD set of D-III games. When I'm bored and can't find anything to watch, I'll throw the SJU-MU/ SJU-BU DVD in.  Still two of the best games I've ever seen. Was at the SJU-BU game, would watch that game 100 times before the Vikes or Gophers..

I see my karma is doing a Johnny Cash, down down down, ring of fire..... ;D

Ah...don't worry about your karma. I look at it this way, at least they care enough to smite!;-) By the time I have enough posts to do some smiting of my own, I expect to be in negative triple digits! ;D I wonder who on the board has the most negative karma? It is good for me to have a goal! ;)

Dammit bennie, I was trying to be the last poster on all the West. boards. ;D God I'm bored.

I dislike how the BCS works, because usually one team will get the shack of a major bowl bid.  This years team is Oregon.  They have lost one game and that was to #1 USC.  But they are playing in a bowl where they will get paid 2 million dollars, instead of 8-12 million.

Tez-are you a linfield Cat?  If so, why would you quote me on the D-1 recruit transferring to a D-III program for his last 2 seasons.  Do you know who your QB is from?  I think more athletes are transferring to play at smaller schools because of competition.  I know the Moorhead State has a bball transfer from the U of Huston, who scored 101 points in a high school game.  Now he is a star on the MSU-M team, but I don't know if that means much.  But I know they started the year 6-0.  Thats all I got.

Bennie--I saw a poster in the NWC board who has -53 karma, there is something to reach for. haha.

SJU92#57

Cobbernation, was that "Greg Pawlick"? He deserves a -54 karma. ;D

Hey bennie, you can post again, I did it .... ;D

Don't remind me about Oregon getting left out in the bowl bonanza!;-) I hear about it daily! You wouldn't believe some of the swag that the teams/ coaches/ and athletic departments get to go with their bowl bid! I am sure that the bigger the bowl, the bigger the goodie bag! ;D

I completely agree with you regarding the NFL - although not sure as to why you're telling me this considering I don't think I mentioned it.  However, I had Gopher season tickets this year and liked tailgating and going to the games (I would love it if there was an on-campus stadium).  I love college football.  DIII football is great because where else can you walk up and down the sidelines, following the ball.  I was at the SJU-BU game (I'll assume you're referring to the record game) and it was a great game.  SJU-Cord last year was a great game as well as this year - but I probably wouldn't sit down and watch any of them on DVD.  I was also at the Purdue-UM game this year and probably one of the best college games I've ever seen - probably wouldn't watch that on DVD either.  Just remember to not tighten your SJU goggles too tightly because for every SJU/Bethel 2003 game there is a Gopher/Purdue 2005, just as for every SJU/Carleton game there is a Gopher/Florida Atlantic  ;)

All I'm saying is instead of taking the time to complain about the Liberty Bowl, Poinsetta (sp?) Bowl, Sun Bowl, Music City Bowl, etc. just turn the channel - I'm guessing you have at least 50 or so to pick from.

Not saying the Goph's are not a good watch LIVE just wouldn't watch them in some cheesedick bowl game, but thats a whole nother thread on the BCS vs Playoff in DI. Have Johnnie goggles but not so much as DIII goggles. Games are just more fun to watch. I live 45 min from St.Peter and an Hr from Northfield. Even if the Johnnies aren't playing I've still gone to a GAC or St. Olaf game if there playing someone good, just to watch. ;D

TC and I made the trek to Iowa City for the Iowa-Michigan game this fall. It was the first time either of us had been in a REAL D-1 stadium for a football game. There is no longer any doubt in my mind that the Gophers need one of those on campus. The tailgating (we started at 7:30am and were far from the first on the golf course), crowds around the stadium, and fans inside the stadium made for the most incredible football atmosphere I'd ever seen. Yes, I say that as a Johnnie who's been to Salem twice, was at UST for 408, at SJU for 409, and hasn't missed more than a handful of SJU games in the 7 years I've followed 'em. As much as I hate the politics and organization of major college football, sitting in a stadium under the sun with 70,000 fellow lunatics was un-freaking-real.

The bowl system, on the other hand... I'd rather not get started on that rant ;)
Nice day, huh?

Shoes, can't deny the atmoshere, but to me it's not an even trade off for all the other pain in the ass stuff you gotta put up with ie:bathroom lines, getting a beer or dog, getting in and out of stadium, getting in and out of parking lot....ect.  Have been to Vikes,Twins,Gophs,Wild,T-wolves,and would still rather sit on the hill at Clemens and watch the Johnnies, even a loss, although I really don't remember what that is like at home.... ;D

Also, depending on the school (it's probably worse here on the west coast), you will have weird start times due to games being on TV. I know the last home game here started at 3:35 pm. Well, there goes most of your day if you include the time to get to and from the stadium. Even taking the shuttle, so that you don't have to deal with on-site parking, is a bit of a hassle. The cost is not very family friendly either. Tickets, transportation, food=$$$ I have brought friends/family to D3 games and they have been amazed at how reasonable (cheap!!! ;D) everything is.

Don't get me wrong, I am not going to choose D-1 over SJU any day. I was just absolutely floored by the atmosphere. Yes, getting to the bathroom at the half sucked. So did the bench seats and the fatty to my left. So did the fact that everyone in our section insisted on sitting, so I was wedged between TC and said fatty the whole damn time. (I've been spoiled by standing on the track at the south 12 yard line in Clemens. I hate sitting for football.) So did the ticket prices. So did the 11am start time.

Still, all that said, you'd have to pay ME to get me to the Dome for a Gophers game (and I live 15 mins away!), but I'd drive to Iowa City again. While I realize the behind-the-scenes aspect of D-1 football is the same in both places, it just felt "pure" down there, you know?

On the flip side of that, I'm not only friends with a bunch of Johnnie football players, I've played against them on the practice fields and didn't completely suck ;) The same couldn't be said were I to have gone to a D-1 school. Chances are, I'd never run into players, wouldn't be given the time of day if I did, and would get embarrassed if I lined up across from one of 'em. I'll take the former over the latter any day. Maybe I just needed that trek to Iowa City--as incredible and amazing as it was--to reinforce that last choice...
