Bring back the Diamond formation.  That was extremely effective last year against Carleton (and a couple other late season opponents in 2008), then the offense used it for like 1 series in the 1st half of the Whitewater game and never again.  It was dynamite.

Dens: Hamm's is only found in cans.  Turdy paks in the Twin Cities and usually just cases in outstate MN.  Maybe our esteemed Mayor will weigh in with his thoughts.  Recycling doesn't really happen at the Johnnie tailgate party.  There are cans, bottles, disposables, garbage, packing supplies, etc. and it really is a free for all once the libations start to flow (hot cider, beer, bloody marys, Kool-Aid, etc).  TDT would be glad to put you in charge if you were to arrive in Collegeville on December 5th.  However, if Red Hot Bennie (now known self-described as Red Hot and Green) shows up she may start the Reduce Reuse Recycle campaign.

Actually, there is recycling at the tailgate.     there are big green recycling bins on the other side of the annex.

As for new offensive wrinkles...not sure what Jimmy G will plan for Saturday, but I am sure they are working on something new.

They should try something REALLY crazy one of these games: the forward pass.

Prior to this year, the last time the Johnnies went back-to-back games without at least 12 completions was a two-game run against St. Thomas and Macalester back in 2001.  Against the Tommies, they completed 10 passes for 4 TDs and they completed 6 passes for 219 yards and 5 TDs against Macalester.

Fast forward to this season and they've now gone 5 straight games without completing at least a dozen passes and have a total of 4 passing TDs over that period (and 3 INTs).  Over the second half of the season, Ben Vanderheyden has 5 receptions, 66 yards and 0 TDs.  A season ago, he AVERAGED 4.5 catches, 72 yards and a half a TD per game.  He was a pretty huge part of the offense a season ago and now he's nonexistant.

I know they've had injury issues at quarterback and it's not like they haven't won their past 5 games, but I'm worried that at some point in the playoffs their complete and total inability to pass the football is going to catch up to them.  If they fall behind by multiple scores they're going to have to pass the ball to win and it's been a long time since they've had any success doing that.

Maybe it's nothing to be worried about.  Maybe Joe Boyle will come back 100% healthy this week and the offense will run efficiently and everyone will go home happy.  But before we start worrying about the shocking new offense attack the Jimmy the Genius is going to unveil, maybe they should work on the basics first.

In other news, how is that True Johnnie Fan list coming, guys?  Am I on the list or do I need to find something else to do this Saturday?

TC-I'd start planning your winter tour with TDT to see the Timberwolves and Wild play. ;)

I also saw a post about what to expect from Boyle at qb.  The answer is nothing, they shouldn't have to play him to get a win in the first round.

I don't think Coe is going to be a pushover.

There are no gimmes in this West bracket.  Winning at SJU in rd 1 will be a tall order, but Coe has looked pretty good this year and their QB has looked outstanding.  Most importantly, he rarely turns the ball over, a must if the cohawks want to win in Collegeville.

Veek

Zip,

I plan on arriving shortly after 8 am.

I hope our hot cider from TDT arrives in a timely manner that morning.  He will have to pick up his Barney costume on Friday in order to prevent a late arrival on Saturday.  Hopefully he will give up trying to figure out how to create an accurate "Odds of winning the West region bracket" prior to then or he won't be able to show up at all!
Go Johnnies!!!

RE: True Johnnie Fans

You are gonna have to get it approved by Supervisor of the Bandwagon, VOJ.  He makes the final decision on all such matters...

LBean: Thanks for that brief snippet.  I know you've been biting your tongue this week.  TDT has never seen those disposal receptacles and, hence, never used them as I always see the regular garbage can overflowing.

Flash is right.  It doesn't have to equal 100%.  Nice try you little whippersnapper, TC.  BTW: Start reading my columns closer on a REGULAR basis.  TDT brought up the exact point of having to throw the ball at some point in the playoffs a few weeks ago.  Old news.

Zip: The tailgate will commence at 8am.

Veek: Get your facts straight.  TDT will have the Barney giddy up for the Tommie game on Nov. 28th.  The cider should arrive around 10:30am...-K for that outburst

...Macalester back in 2001. ...

That was a brutal game.  The starters got pulled so early that I don't even remember sweating.

You should have shared that with Carleton's QB last week!  :D

In 2002, Coe was ranked 8th in the nation in scoring D giving up just 10.7 points per game. The score of the 2002 SJU v. Coe game 45-14. Same result this weekend?

105: Veek has graciously offered a spot in his "Man Cave" on Friday night to ensure that TDT arrives at 8am.  Under any other circumstances, the expected arrival time would be approximately 10am.  For breakfast, I have requested a 3 egg omelet with bacon, sausage, and green pepper along with some apple juice and a toasted bagel.  BTW: Stearns County Hot Spot is an obvious oxymoron.  -K for being a douche.

So does that mean your mom is packing your overnight bag?  ;)

The -K is a small price to pay to give you sh*t. You're just too fun  ;D

Great point!  How about I come up to the game Saturday and bring two cases to share and we call it even?  One of Hamm's and one of Cobbernations choosing?

Even though I'm unable to attend, I like it. Cobbernation's a stand-up guy so I'm sure he'll be on board. As long as with each beer you hand out from one of the cases you greet each recipient with, "From Finsleft, the football genius. Go Johnnies!"

We'll be square.

I will not be able to attend the game on saturday to receive my prize.  However, I wish SJU luck in the game.  I also saw a post about what to expect from Boyle at qb.  The answer is nothing, they shouldn't have to play him to get a win in the first round.

Freebird,
We could meet up in the cities sometime since I won't be in collegeville this weekend.  I think I will take a case grain belt premium.  Thanks.

That sounds good.  Are you sure you only want grain belt?  How about Summit or Lienies?
