The box score is up.  Even more painful to see the stats - the Johns dominated the game except for those damn turnovers:

* 23 first downs to 15
* 133 rushing yards to 56
* 285 passing yards to 179
* 418 yards total offense to 235
* 5.2 yards per play to 3.6

And where else did SJU dominate?

* 4 fumbles to 2
* 2 interceptions to 0

And in there was the game.

Just a cryin' shame.  This year put together a pretty good team - better than average I would argue.

I thought it was interesting today that the first two red-white Boyle passing TD's were big chunks. That's what I understood was lacking.

They were both on broken plays where Joe Boyle ran around while the Benny Hill music played and Kohawks ran into each other trying to chase him and/or receivers down.  In fact, on the second one Vanderheyden and another receiver (Johnson?) looked like two outfielders converging on a lazy flyball.  They nearly ran into each other before Vandy called the other fielder off, then he walked into the endzone.  In fact, I think he might have signaled for a fair catch.

Most certainly not designed deep pass plays (there wasn't enough protection for that at all today) which is really what was lacking this season.

Congrats to SJU for a fine season!

You can't expect to win when you turn the ball over the way SJU did today.

Nice seeing Zip and his son today.

Thanks JR for another fun year behind the grills.

Once my team gets beat I root for my conference and then my region.  Therefore, I will be pulling for UST to win this week.

Hopefully, we won't have to listen to as many of TDT's culinary endeavors now.
Go Johnnies!!!

Love the Legendary picture of BDB on TD Tommy's profile!!

Go Johnnies this weekend!  Coe a tough team...best player I went up against...Cary Bender 1993....if he got to the outside, watchout!!!

I have not been able to follow the Johnnies that closely this year.....is Boyle back for the playoffs?

Go Red!

Samwill 47-

Long time no hear from.
Boyle is slated to go tomorrow. He has some sort of a brace & will most likely wear a glove on his throwing hand ala Kurt Warner.

He played like this through the Tommie gave, without the benefit of 3 weeks in a cast for healing. I'm expecting to see Joe about 90% according to what I have read from Frank R. in the St. Cloud Times.

I'm more interested to see the new wrinkles that will be thrown in. New sets & formations come around when play-off season starts.

How are the boys? Sam Will & Mike?
The boys are doing great, but they keep me too busy to get back up to Collegeville much these days!  Tough loss for the Johnnies today! Classic way for SJU to lose in the playoffs....5+ turnovers....endured a couple of those back in the day...Albion 1994 I think we turned the ball over 7 times and still only lost by 3!  Congrats to seniors on great careers!  I for one am not jumping on UST bandwagon...too many of my good friends are Tommies....I don't want to give them the satisfaction!  Go Kohawks!

Really?  Not enough protection?  How do you think he was able to get the time needed originally for those plays to develop?  Yes he used his feet but he had time back there, it just took a little longer to get guys open...and at times the WR were not much help, there were a few drops that needed to be and should have been caught.

Congrats Kohawks, you took advantage of the Johnnies mistakes and you survive and advance, good luck against the Tommies...if the Kohawks Boyle can't go, he must of have gotten injured on that Malchi crunch hit of four Johnnies late in the game, it would be tough not to see UST winning and playing in a national quarterfinal.

I also believe in supporting the conference teams in the playoffs....Good Luck UST...at least USTTDT has his new favorite team still in the playoffs

Tough way for the season to end lots of hard work and achievements without the ultimate reward.  I wish the seniors well and want to thank those of you who I have the pleasure of meeting who enjoy the work done by the Johnnies Radio Network, your comments and the support we receive are always much appreciated.

Unlike the Johns, the Tommies DON'T turn the ball over and so this Calvin clown will not be much of a factor, a factor at DB of all places.

Keep thinking that way...If someone would have told me that Joe Boyle would throw for 280 yards and 4td's I would have said, great when do we host UST or Monmouth...the bounce of a ball can be a funny thing...IF I had to choose I would take the COE LBs over the UST LB's any day of the week and TWICE ON SATURDAY, it all depends on the health of  Brad Boyle...think Carleton with a solid defense.

Wow, that was a frustrating game to watch.  There were numerous times that the Johnnies had momentum and looked like they were going to finally come back and take the lead--and every time they shot themselves in the foot worse than the time before.

For two teams that built their seasons on controlling the turnover game (both led their conferences in turnover differential), they were ridiculously careless with the ball today.  Each team had 4 fumbles on a perfectly dry day.  Amazing.  And both quarterbacks put the ball in position to be picked off repeatedly.  Pretty sure Bobby Klint would like another shot at the ball that hit him right in the numbers and he dropped, and the Kohawks were able to deflect a number of passes--some went for Coe TDs, some went for Johnnie first downs, but most fell incomplete.

Pretty rough day for John Ries.  He came into the game cold in the 4th quarter and played 4 plays:  fumbled the exchange on 3rd-and-1 for a Coe TD, hand off, hand off, interception.  Yikes.  It's too bad that Boyle could barely walk by the end of the game.  The line didn't do him many favors today.  It's also unfortunate that the Johnnies' only real passing game on the day was Boyle running around for 15 or 20 seconds, then heaving a TD pass halfway down the field.  It's hard to build a consistent offense around that.

Looking forward to next week, I really hope Coe wins by about a kabillion.  Unfortunately, I think St. Thomas is going to be way too talented for them and will win easy.  I guess that doesn't make me a True Johnnie Fan or something, but whatever.

No you are not outright picking  The UST TDT's to beat SJU outright, right?  No complaints here...I think it will be a tall order for Coe to win based on their health at QB and traveling two weeks in a row and other factors.

The Johnnies played a very untypical game for them....Crawl back into your hole now, because I didn't see you before the game, so that must be where you were.

We have quiet confidence.  A trait the Johnnies cannot comprehend, go back to your board and stop making a fool of yourself.

To all other Cohawk fans, Good Luck the rest of the way. I just hope you don't have one of those days, like when your QB is puking on the sidelines, your #1 running back is out and your best defensive player is just a shell of his pre injury self.

here come the excuses...

Against all odds, you clowns are making me wish for a UST(d) win.

I'll be interested to see/hear how many SJU posters will be rooting for UST next weekend. After years of preaching "support your conference" when your team has always been the lead log, I wonder how having the shoe on the other foot might change things...especially when it means potentially cheering for the Tommies in a half-full stadium against the team that just beat you.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

After a day to digest, season-ending thoughts by Duffman:

First off, to those SJU fans that feels the need to bitch and yell loudly everytime a penalty is called on SJU, grow up.  The refs are doing their job.  They may make a mistake or two, but there is no way they screw up nearly as much as you may think, and there is a good chance that SJU has committed the called infraction.  Perhaps they may have a better vantage point and understanding of the rules than you do...just maybe  ::)  And if you feel the need to berate the coaching staff and players constantly and obnoxiously, please stay away from me.  There's a reason they're down on the field and you're in the stands.

Secondly, I had a hunch that Coe was going to do what they did.  They are a solid football team.  Very quick on defense, and their QB was the real deal.  I hope he's okay to play next week.  The Coe receivers were huge.  Not the greatest of hands, but good size.  The Kohawks were well-prepared and executed better than the Johnnies, which is what matters.  Calvin Thomas must have been the happiest guy on Earth!  Two long turnover returns...ridiculous!  Talk about the right place at the right time.

It's disappointing to watch SJU's season end due to a one-dimensional offense again.  They finally were able to establish a run game this season, but the passing game was virtually non-existent.  I hope they concentrate on finding some top-notch receivers in the off-season.  Boyle looked to be a hurting unit yesterday.  I don't know entirely what was up, but he was dragging.

Congrats again to Coe.  I don't think the score is a good indication of the game.  There was no point when I though the Johnnies would win.  Save for those two busted plays for TDs, this one had Monkeystomp written all over it  :(

Since I have already been proclaimed an asshole, I'll lay it out there that I will not be rooting for UST next week.  Not that I'll be pulling for Coe, either.  I really don't care either way.  DOC and WC11, is there room on the Linfield bandwagon?  I even sported a Wildcat shirt with my Johnnie apparel yesterday!

The only good thing about the loss is I'll be able to catch Sartell vs. Totino-Grace in the Prep Bowl next week.  Looks like a steep challenge for the Sabres, as T-G just drubbed Mankato West 35-0 in the semifinals!

I nominate the above as the MIAC post of the year, especially the first paragraph. You may have a different perspective from some, Duff, since you've actually played the game.

There is always room on the Linfield bandwagon.
Two words:  THE STREAK

One last comment on the game.  There were some big hits on both sides of the ball!  Wow!  Bobby Klint and John Stanton were laying the wood big time for SJU!  And the Coe LBs were putting out some big hits, too.  Johnson got absolutely drilled on one shovel pass!
