Cripples was too strong of a word, takes away from other programs would fit.  And putting up the most free tuition may also be too strong, but I would bet a lot that it is near the top.

As long as they are giving out grants and scholarships at a similar rate to the rest of their student body, that's fine. And the NCAA audits that at the Division III level now.

There you go K. I will go out on a limb here and take Pat's inside info over any you have collected from some disgruntled non scholarship/grant winner. There has never been any news about questionable  activities with the program at Mount and with their profile you know people have been looking for something that they could bring the program down. Not there, so look somewhere else... maybe now with all this huge exposure for USTD they will get their look too. Seems to me there have already been some questionable activities reported but I can not sight an article at this moment. Enjoy the rest of the post season. ;D

There were two, both from Cobber fans (Cobb30hog & CobberFvr) and one other from planet Zoltar (White Silly).

I think that's a pretty high percentage of non-SJU MIAC posters from past years, actually.

If they weren't posting then because their team s*cked then I personally feel that they really have no reason to be complaining now.

Well....dang...just got worked.  I had not talked to an athlete...but my info was probably at least 7 years old, so things may have changed.

They are not supposed to be restricted by the positions of the athletes they think deserve the award.  If it's 6 RBs, then they have the ability to give it to 6 RBs.

Absolutely. That's why you see coaches put six running backs on the field all the time.

Coaches don't put 2 QBs on the field at the same time either, but if you're telling me you could've legitamitely given a second team instead of a first team to either Jordan Berg or Shane Henfling last year, then you are nuts.

Edit: Unless you're watching film of Carleton in '06 when they played Gustavus with 2 QBs on the field at the same time.

I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

I agree with 11 players for each team plus punter and kicker.  This has been hashed out in the past.  I think they've named fewer players than in the past which is a step in the right direction, but 4 all-MIAC QBs?

They have had at least 4 all-MIAC QBs since at least 2003.  I did find one year that they went with 11 All-Conference players:

http://miac-online.org/documents/2008/8/6/1932FBallconf.jpg

No coach of the year is named so I'm going to assume it was Gagliardi.

HAHAHA. I get it.

They are not supposed to be restricted by the positions of the athletes they think deserve the award.  If it's 6 RBs, then they have the ability to give it to 6 RBs.  I see why they would do this, not leaving out very deserving athletes, but I too would like to see 11 players get 1st team, and 11 players get 2nd team.

This year 3 safeties got 1st team, 3 got second team, 1 DB got first team and 1 second team, and 1 CB got first team and 1 second team (Cornish).  If those DBs are safeties, that's 8 safeties and 2 CBs.

If you think that's bad, check out the WIAC list. Four first team DBs, Four second team DBs and Seven Honorable mention DBs. How do you think the other seventeen DBs in the conference feel?

Pat Coleman

I don't think there's a problem with large honorable mention teams. We don't choose to do it that way with ours, but it's at least reasonable.

Ramler puts two QBs on the field.  I've even seen 3.

One award that really surprised me was the coach of the year.  I thought with the turnaround that UST has seen since Caruso got there that he would get the award, similar to how Ramler got it last year.  That probably just pissed off a lot of Johnnie fans.

For Honorable Mention lists, nothing will ever top AP all-state football and basketball in Minnesota. Average 10 points and five boards and you've got a chance.

Frank's got three stories on the end of the year for the Johnnies.

I guess my question then is, do you know if the grants and scholarships of all sports combined are compared to the rest of the student body, or is it the grants and scholarships of each individual sport compared to the rest of the student body?

Caruso would have been the best selection for Coach of The Year Award.

Pat, why rely on auditors who have access to the actual award data when you can instead rely on football message board posters that have the "inside scoop"? ::)

Just joshin' ya Raiderguy. I always know how the OSU reject debate gets people fired up. I know there's no truth to it...or is there? But all the stuff I wrote about President McKinley is 100% true in my mind.

It should also be known that I'm the official unofficial poster of UST football. All other posters from UST are rogue and do not necessarily reflect the views and beliefs of the Benchwarmer.

Only OSU "Player" that MUC got that I can remember is Larry Kinnard.  An OL from Alliance High School.  He did commit to OSU and received a scholarship.  There were some questions about his grades (don't know if it was an admissions Test or missing credit) but his father also was diagnosed with cancer that year.  He decided to stay home and was a four year starter and graduated from MUC.  Probably only Kinnard knows the true story, but he was a great addition to the team.

MUC also had Matt Campbell who was on Pitt's roster for one year and Chris Kern who played for one of the DII Dakota teams, but other than that, most have been home grown kids.
