JR...can you still use a 'coon carcass if it's been frozen for a year?  I did a double take at 6 AM this morning when I passed a raccoon that was freshly hit next to Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, CA.  I could go back and get it and give it to you when we meet next year.

A good sign for MIAC offenses next year: only 3 of the All-MIAC selections for the offensive skill positions are seniors.  Nourie, Quick and Larson.  Should be fun to watch next year.

In the 2007 season at LINFIELD homecoming game I saw sophomore back-up quarterback Aaron Boehme catch a pass from starting quarterback Trevor Sharer that turned out to be a TD: Two quarterbacks in the game at the same time.

Just last weekend I watched SJU's Joe Boyle throw a pass that was deflected back at him.  Does that count as a pass completion to himself?  SJU doesn't need 2 QBs on the field at once  ;)

From the drive chart:
QuoteH 2-1  V37   Joe Boyle pass complete to Joe Boyle for 3 yards to the COE34, 1ST DOWN SJU (Frank Weymiller).

"My" Carbo didn't like that play.... he wondered why he caught the ball.  Hmmm, must be a deeper thinker than me.

I know it's still very premature for any all-time comparisons...but the Waldvogel vs. Elliott vs. anyone else just added some heat. His detractors pointed to lack of postseason production/clutch plays and accolades before, if I remember right. The little guy has taken a few important steps to filling out that resume since we last talked...

• You want accolades? How about becoming the first sophomore to ever be named the MVP in MIAC history. He could, hypothetically, become the first 3-time winner of the award. Personally, I don't think it's that farfetched of an idea...
• You want postseason production? How's 10-96 and a tuddy sound (plus a 71-yard kick return and an 18-yard run) for a start?
• He's leading D3 in kick returns with a 37.4 average and leads all divisions with 6 kick returns for touchdowns.

I'm not saying he's close to that elite level yet — it will take sustained production for that — but it's something to keep an eye on, at least.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

I think everyone will agree that these are four great kick returning seasons.  Obviously, Waldvogel's is most impressive.  But, what do these four seasons have in common?  Special teams coach Travis Walch.  Walch should probably get more recognition for being the special teams guru that he is.

Is he from the Walch clan in southern MN? The one who played at Winona State?

That would be him.

Quotehypothetically, become the first 3-time winner of the award.

Why not put him on the cover of Sports Illustrated?

The guy was an easy pick - especially doing what got him attention once again in a (1) playoff game.
No B.E.
You trying to curse him?
When it's all over come on again and toot any Gagliardi trophy, Stagg Ring, two wins over LINFIELD and one over Mount Union he accomplished.

D O.C. thanks for bringing some sanity to this conversation...yes great scheming by the coach Walch and Waldvogel is a great talent...but did he return a kickoff or punt for TD against St. Olaf, Bethel, Concordia SJU or ...well that's it for opponents of quality or at least a .500 record on the Tommies schedule

Stat stuffing against Mac, Northwestern and Auggy is nice for the bottom line but there is a lack of stuffing in the turkey...

VOJ, obvioulsy the fact that Waldvogel is still in the playoffs and that he left St. Johns hanging in favor of St. Thomas is still burning your ass.  Now, if he was in RED, you would be singing his praises and talking about all those great touchdowns.  That's a fact, so get over it Mark.

Well, duh!  It's quite obvious that VOJ has a man crush on nearly all of the Johnnie players!  :D

Any tailgate parties this Saturday at Tommieland before the game?

Waldvogel's a great player. And had an outstanding first playoff game in his first shot at the postseason.

But, as WW also said, we'll see what happens in the coming weeks and years.

Elliott's teams were 14-3 in the playoffs, for what it's worth, with him being the Johnnies' dominant player in all but a handful of those games. Comparing the two now is still fairly ludicrous, like comparing LeBron to Jordan.

And three straight MVPs would be a great achievement - but Boyle will win it next year... - but I'm not sure that alone would have much bearing on any debate. It's not like Archie Griffin is considered to be the best college player ever just because he has two Heismans.

And yes, SJU fans have to resort to talking about the BE era, because St. Thomas is still playing, bitter fans, jealous of Caruso, yada, yada, yada.
