Way to play the man and not the ball, as they say in Aussie Rules.  No need to advocate for Waldvogel, it's enough that VOJ dare say it's not yet time to declare him the football messiah and that's all the justification needed.  If a Johnnie says 'not yet' then a Tommie takes that to mean 'right now.'

You may still be in the playoffs (congratulations), but it still seems as if the Tommies live to play only one team.

VOJ, obvioulsy the fact that Waldvogel is still in the playoffs and that he left St. Johns hanging in favor of St. Thomas is still burning your ass.  Now, if he was in RED, you would be singing his praises and talking about all those great touchdowns.  That's a fact, so get over it Mark.

Quotehypothetically, become the first 3-time winner of the award.

Why not put him on the cover of Sports Illustrated?

The guy was an easy pick - especially doing what got him attention once again in a (1) playoff game.
No B.E.
You trying to curse him?
When it's all over come on again and toot any Gagliardi trophy, Stagg Ring, two wins over LINFIELD and one over Mount Union he accomplished.

D O.C. thanks for bringing some sanity to this conversation...yes great scheming by the coach Walch and Waldvogel is a great talent...but did he return a kickoff or punt for TD against St. Olaf, Bethel, Concordia SJU or ...well that's it for opponents of quality or at least a .500 record on the Tommies schedule

Stat stuffing against Mac, Northwestern and Auggy is nice for the bottom line but there is a lack of stuffing in the turkey...

The refs were the same ones in the Albion playoff game in 1994.

Having had the chance to review both calls in question from last weekend;

I demand an immediate and sweeping D3Football review with front page coverage and link to the YouTube video evidence of this injustice.  I appoint Pat Coleman and his brother Ryan as Chair and Co-Chair of this blue-ribbon panel.  Their constant pursuit of justice for those teams (read USTd) screwed by poor officiating will come in handy.  I fully expect Ryan will be able to render a completely impartial verdict after viewing the video evidence ::) ::)  With his cinematic and photographic skills I know he will be able to share still images from the video capture with the D3Football family that prove beyond any reasonable doubt the two defensive touchdowns the officials gave to Coe were in-fact both wrong calls and that SJU should immediately be reinstated to play the winner of Linfield and MHB.  Coe and USTd can play a consolation game if they would like.

At the 2:45 mark of the video Coe DB #9 is clearly holding #89 prior to the ball ever being thrown.  Pass interference can be called off on a tip pass after the throw, but not holding.

At the 4:30 mark, the two LBers (#33 and #34) that converge on the fumble both have their knees on the ground....last time I checked college rules that would mean the play should have been whistled dead.

Happy Thanksgiving to all (even AO, TweetyBird and the new UST clowns).

That story is tame compared to this one that all my SJU attorney friends will enjoy...

I'm glad at least one poster can read. Thanks for that, sfury.

I never said FW was better than BE. I was just pointing out that he took a couple of important steps if he wants to legitimately be discussed in that elite MIAC company. Another big game this weekend would simply add to his resume, which admittedly still needs a couple more years of fleshing out.

USTbench - You coming down for the game or staying up in the GF for the hockey game?

Johnnie Red - Will you be holding your usual Stiffyfest celebration one last time for those of us craving a burger after splurging on tryptophan?
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Well, duh!  It's quite obvious that VOJ has a man crush on nearly all of the Johnnie players!  :D

Duff...that would be true...but I can objectively look at the season, no playmakers on the outside and some big time Johnny Magic helped SJU to a 10-0 record, mistakes that were overcome during the season could not be overcome in the playoffs and Coe held on for the win...however if replay were utilized in DIII like it is in DI you might have seen a different result, according to a little birdy with knowledge...

That little "birdy" resides on YouTube for all to see.... Calvin Thomas had his knee down as he recovered the John Reis 4th quarter fumble before rumblin, bumblin, stumblin 70 some odd yards....

Developing...

and the pass interference in the end zone occured well before the pass left Boyle's hand...not a good day for the WIAC officials on that game

Thanks, guys - way to spoil my Thanksgiving. >:(  A turkey testicle for you both. :P

Edit: The video indeed suggests both are true. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqF-d09D1t0 :P  I wonder if they can get the same crew of refs for the USTD game? ::)
Can I get a pair of the rose-colored glasses that allows me to see the knee down at 4:30?  Even if there was replay, there is no way the call would be reversed by looking at a shot that doesn't even show the knee in question.

Wonka-

Trying my darndest to get down to St. Paul on Saturday. Family obligations, etc are currently stifling my ability to make this happen, but I will keep you in the know at my progress.

Any tailgate parties this Saturday at Tommieland before the game?

Good one JJR, I haven't laughed that hard for a long time.  Anyone want to hazard a guess on the attendance?

There having a "campus wide" tailgate in the quad before the game. Hopefully attendance is decent...UST students do a very good job of showing up for basketball playoffs.

Attendance might be fairly low this Saturday but that doesn't necessarily mean we should break out Tommie jokes. The attendance at the Saturday games following Thanksgiving is always low, because students are gone. St. John's rarely if ever drew very well at those games.

A younger group of Tommie fans will be assembling at a household on the 1900 block of Grand Avenue Saturday morning... keg and grilling start at 9 a.m.  If you're in the area I'm sure you'll hear us from the street!

Can't remember who recommended it, but I bought a case of Fat Tire for the Thanksgiving guests.  Delicious.  I wish I had a UST-SJU game to attend this saturday, sigh.
