Ha W. Clark you old dog.  It may be the offseason but you are still in mid-season form.  I'm gonna miss seeing you every Saturday morning in Cville.  Did you have snow last night in the Boogie Down?  My pal, Bret Hedican, sent me a pic of snow on the ground in NoCal (closer to San Jose)...

Benchwarmer: Epic post.  These guys might hate you.  But you're not too bad.  More truth in that than anyone would like to admit.

TDT's early projections have to favor the Tommies as the #1 team in the MIAC in 2010.  No guarantees they come into Cville and win, but they went the farthest in the 2009 playoffs proving to me they were the superior squad (while returning every player minus 2).  Lots of personnel losses and question marks galore on the 2010 SJU vintage.  Johnnies don't rebuild they reload, but I am nervous the gap is closing...

Hi Veek!  Keep me posted on the rigorous Arts & Crafts Circuit this winter.  See you at Costco!

Way to waffle USTTDT..."I want to be on the Johnnie Bandwagon, but don't want to give up my purple Barney costume"

I am glad that you set the criteria for the USTTDT poll for judging teams...glad you are "crowning" UST, do you want to give them the 2009 Football MIAC title as well?

OK,
Got to work and looked out back at our dock, the frickin bay is frozen along with the boats frozen where they sit. This doesn't happen often here in the PNW.

I suddenly have the urge to go across the street to the market and buy some Hamms beer and try this ice fishing dealieo.

  Updates to follow

About the reaction I expected.  The main question I had was how to rank the top 3, and maybe put SJU at 3 instead of Bethel.  But yes, I have a lot of expectations for a Carleton team with 80+ players for the first time in 5 years, and returning 22 starters.  And I have no reason to think UST will drop off at all.  Bethel will improve.  I think it will be a complete 180 in terms of offensive production in the MIAC.  Carleton, UST, Auggie Tech will all be putting up a lot of points.

The Tommies will find a way to lose to the Collegeville Crusaders but will win the conference with 1 loss.

1. Abercrombie and Lexus State (7-1)
2. Rats (6-2)
3. Bible Beaters (6-2)
4. Gatsby's College (5-3)
5. Southern Minny Hippies (4-4)
6. Minneapolis Community & Tech (4-4)
7. Canada (3-5)
8. St. Thomas of the Prarie (1-7)
9. Cheap State Fair Parking Lot (0-8)

And if they played football:
10. Winona Juco
11. The Uglies
12. The disowned sisters
13. St. Paul Hippies

I thought I had seen everything dumb that a college player could do when Burton from Trinity got drunk and went Mike Tyson on the cop on Riverwalk back in 2002.  Not such a good Stagg Bowl for his team as a result.

This past Thursday night Stephen F. Austin flew here to Missoula to take on the UM Griz in the quarterfinals.  Within 2 hours of that arrival their All-American QB (4,000 yards and 40TDs) and several of his teammates had found the way to Red's Bar.  Being the hospitable fans that we Montanans are and seeing them dressed in their team apparel, the adult bevvies were on the house (and the fans).  By the time the evening had ended, at least 30 SFA players had made sure dehydration would not be a problem during the playoff game ;) ;)

You can probably guess the rest of the story in today's world of phones with cameras, Facebook and fan chat boards.  The evening was well documented as evidenced by the attached link.

Needless to say, the #1 offense in FCS was held scoreless and lost 51-0, although they did lead in turnovers with 10; 5 picks and 5 fumbles.

This is great.  However, I don't even think SF Austin could've won even if they didn't go out drinking before the game.  Redtooth I am sure you know that Washington-Grizzly stadium is definately one of the hardest places to win a football game on a saturday!  Just look back to last week's game vs. SDSU.  Down 27 with 5 min. left in the 3rd and score the next 40 points to win!  That's how a team beat's SDSU! (Yes, the gophers couldn't even score a TD against SDSU!)

Pick the Johnnies to finish first: Unhinged and hopelessly homered mouth-breather.

Pick the Tommies to finish first and CAR to finish second: Rational prognosticator with understandable bias toward the home team.

In case it isn't clear, I'm completely unpersuaded by the calls to objectivity.  They appear as signs posted on a one-way street.

While we're all caught up in the 2010 hoopla, I've posted the 2009 pick 'ems for the semi-final. Enjoy.

Cobbernation,

As a season ticket holder for the last five seasons, I am well aware that Wash-Griz is a very hard place to play for the visiting team.  The crowd of 25,000+ is not only right on top of the field (no track) but also IN the game with noise.  Your statement about SFA was correct, drunk or not things were not going to go their way last Saturday.  In terms of the SDSU game, I have never seen anything like it and posted the same on this board last week.  This week will likely be the biggest game ever in the history of Wash-Griz as App State and Armanti Edwards are coming to town.

Is there any chance Bobby Hauck would come to Minnesota and breath life into a Gopher program that has been road kill for nearly 4 decades?
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Redtooth

105,

While the chance of Bobby Hauck coming to Minnesota isn't strong, the guy is a very ambious and successful coach so I would not completely rule out the possibility.  He was in the mix (as I understand it) back when Brewster was hired.  He was concerned at the time about tradition, lack of on campus stadium and a significant recruiting deficit.  Other than the TCF Stadium the other issues still exist and have likely worsened.  I would argue that after watching SDSU vs MN and UM, Bobby might actually have a more talented team here....certainly a better atmosphere.

Bobby is 80-14 in his seven years here with seven Big Sky Conference championships.  He took the 04 and 08 teams to the National Championship game and could do the same this year.

As a result of his success, Bobby is more likely to attract a good program as his FBS job rather than a complete rebuild.  The jobs that have been rumored in the past include; Stanford (finalist when Harbaugh was hired), UNLV, Colorado (when Hawkins gets fired).

For those fans that want to see a great game between two great teams, tune into ESPN Saturday at 2pm MST for the FCS semifinal-UM vs App State.

I am going to have to take a look at that! Right now I am transitioning from four days of swimming back into watching hockey. God bless FINA for making the full body suits illegal! I also had the chance to meet 3 time Olympic metalist Rowdy Gaines! What a nice guy!! It is good to be home! ;D

"Rowdy Gaines" is a classic name.  It ranks right up there with Catfish Hunter and Vida Blue.

Might as well make it a hat trick and throw in Blue Moon Odom, too.
