the one that got away...

Recently I had the occassion to check Larry Fritzgerald (WR-Arizona Cardinals) bio and I noticed that he had originally committed to Gustavus Adolphus before attending Pittsburg.   It would have been interesting to see how he had competed at the DIII level.  He may have made Cecil Shorts look pedestrian.

And I wonder if Fitzgerald realizes how much he let get away with this supposed good move that ends with him in the NFL.  He could have been on the Bachelorette if not for the unfortunate twist of fate that led him down a different path.

It is probably a good thing he went elsewhere with the "WR Talent" that GAC had at the time, he likely would have been relegated to backup duty.  He certainly would not have caught any passes.  On the off chance that he excelled at football (not better than Hoager) he could have been known as less than Irrelevant.

Bennie and all you other hockey fans, you should enjoy this clip from Russia:

That kind of reminded me of dancing a 'Flying Dutchman' at the Pines Ballroom ........... just as much sweating, body contact and bruises but the Dutchman was a lot more fun (at least if preceded by much beer drinking).  ;)

A few questions:

* Could that announcer have been any more dry?  The passion in his marriage may be a little low.

* What's up with the Cuckoo sound every so often?  I felt like I was being mocked for listening to the guy.

* Where was the guy from Slapshot that skated around the rink in his cup and jock strap to striper music?  But that Oglethorp was a mean bastard, that's for sure.

EDIT:  And I found the start of this Sergei Fedorov fight in the related list interesting as they both pause a second to take off their helmets before the punches start.  If there are going to be some broken fingers out of this deal, they're going to be broken on someone's face rather than a helmet.  Old school.

I love how the goalies stand around and chat during the fight.

Uh...as much as I like Sergei Fedorov, his idea of an "old school fight" is having someone else fight it for him! 8-)

Tmert, you keeping up on the drama at USC? Think Sarkisian would come back? If they settle for Herm Edwards I think I would officially resign from the Trojan Fan club.

Sum-- does the hiring of Lane Kiffin qualify as better or worse than Herm Edwards? it is definitely more strange, possibly bizzare, to say the least.

Mose, I like this hire a lot, considering who is coming with him....Monte and Ed Orgeron are part of the package! I think this is way better than a Herm Edwards or even a Steve Mariucci. Now if we can lure Norm Chow back.......

Based on his history, I'm betting he won't last at USC as long as John has at SJU  ;D

One of my best clients is one of the largest $$$ boosters at Tennessee and in talking to him today he said UT will be going after a big name coach (Muschamp at Texas).  While the players/fans/boosters at Tennessee are PISSED at Kiffin for the manner in which this occurred, they are not heart broken that this jacka$$/$hitty coach has left Knoxville.  The AD crapped the bed on that hire and the big money boosters will not let that happen again.  Look for those boosters to force Hamilton out as AD and replace him with Fulmer (Karma justice).

With their expectations, Brewster has a shot at getting the equipment manager job, but probably nothing else.

D O.C.

Oh, I dunno. Perhaps Lane can take him back to Trojanville to replace Mike Garrett when he has to finally hang it up.

bennie,
I like(ed) players like Gordie Howe, Le Rocket etc. that always finished a fight they started rather than those like Ovechkin who have a designated goon. Howe would have clocked Bradley for interfering and then finished the fight.  8-)

Drunk.  Stressed.  High pressure and friggin' responsibilities.

I remember back to when the biggest issue in my life was finishing German assigments and making sure I was warm enough to walk across the Tundra and clear over to the science hall for an 8am start.  Was it cold enough to cut through the Quad and Great Hall or was I man enough to just walk there?  Sigh.  If I had it to do all over again it's not so much that I would do it differently, but that I would make sure to realize how sweet the roses smell as I pass by.  Youth: all the promise and none of the wisdom.  Oddly homesick for Ol' St. John's this evening.
