Take note of the last sentence SJU!

The Tommies' 70 touchdowns in 2009 ranked third most in D-III, behind Mount Union and UW-Whitewater. UST also broke school season records for rushing yards (3,238), total offense (5,556 yards), and points (506).

I am under the opinion that the big L your boys dropped at Clemen's Stadium is more important than that stat.

Till you bring home some walnut and bronze, you'll be left clutching at your stats.

A tradition unrivaled...

As I have read the Tommie love from Winterhawk and others a couple key points need to be made;
-the last time UST won the conference title (1990) I was a sophomore playing at SJU, George HW Bush was President, the first Gulf War had not begun and Caruso was Sophomore in high school.  Not saying it can't happen with the talent coming back, but several UST teams over the years have had the same preseason look (great QB back, great RB, star WRs, everyone back on defense) only to have their season resemble wet fireworks.
-as important as the new facilities are to recruiting, financial aid philosophy and policy plays an even bigger determinate factor in where kids end up going to school.  When the comprehensive cost of little Tommie's college education is offset by an aid award that is significantly higher at one school over all the others, little Tommie's ego is stroked and he ends up at that school.
-if we have to debate Waldvogel as the second coming of Jesus Christ again this year we will all be dumber.  The kid is a fine WR/KR and has amassed a nice career resume of stats against everyone except SJU.  In his MVP season he caught 4 balls for 24 yards and had 2 punt returns cover 16 yards.  The year before he had 6 catches for 63 yards....and in neither year did he come close to sniffing the end zone.  In my opinion he is not even the best player in UST's offensive huddle, that distinction goes to Wartman.

17-3 the series record since 1989....had to go back that far to get more than one win for UST.  As Dan Quayle was once scolded for being "no Jack Kennedy"  UST is "no Bethel" ready to challenge year in and out, they earned it.

Oddly enough transfers get next to nothing in aid if we're refering specifically to the guy from Cretin. But otherwise UST does try and offer a helpful amount of financial aid to MOST of it's student body. Just because you only read about athletes getting them in the SPORTS SECTION doesn't mean other students don't get the same treatment if not better. Why should a school apologize for wanting to bring students in? Again, that doesn't make much sense. And it's been noted that SJU gives "leadership scholarships" or something of that sort to a lot of their athletes so you may need to re-evaluate your stance on the whole ordeal.

As far as Faunch's point about scenery and what not, if you could see through your Cardinal colored glasses for a second it wouldn't be too hard to see that most players are going to care more about facilities that make them better and that  look good/are more fun than Pine trees. Pine trees dude? Really? Wow. Yeah SJU trumps everyone in attendance so that's a plus, but if all a person cares about is how many people are in the stands watching them what happens at an away game when a school's fan base isn't a as strong as yours? The guy just quits playing or sits out that game? Doubt it. At the DIII level people play for the love of the game. It's a bonus to have a ton of adoring fans but at this level, the groupie factor is probably minimal at best for most players.

And if you think think making a recruit feel welcome is kissing ass, I'd love for you to take a glimpse of what goes on at the DI level...your head would explode.

Final point congratulations at beating St. Thomas...you know for a team that no one seems to think very highly of...ya'll sure do love to bring up how much you've beat that terrible, terrible down in St. Paul. Weird.

Surprise everyone, a Johnnie living in the past, what a shock! Seems to be the status quo for you people!

I'm thinking it's probably a subconscious mechanism/effort to temper the inevitable; losing big to the Tommie's this year.

Conservative prediction, Johnnies lose 3 games & end up a "middle of the pack" slug that will continue to live in the past for years to come! Get ready for mediocrity Johnnie Pukes, You deserve the position your out of touch, arrogant & ancient, "live in the past" coach has put you in!!!

Okay, lets live in the present, when did you beat the Johnnies last in football?  Or, if that is being arrogant and out of touch, isn't it you who brings up the all sports thing?  As if what happened in march matters.  Harummphh.
Everyday is payday in paradise.

Let's see, "Harummphh"...  Webster's Dictionary, (confirmed by SJU) = "a Johnnie Tight end's bumbling reception attempt" thrown by the Johnnie QB in hopes of an "Immaculate Reception". Thankfully broken up by a "companionate" UST outside Linebacker.

Let's see, a play on a pass by an outside linebacker in a Johnnie-Tommie game?  You mean like this ...

Not to change the subject away from football on the MIAC board but I thought that this board could really appreciate this thing.  GHC passed this along to me and it might be the coolest invention that I've seen.

This is called the "Bottom's Up" and it's a beer tap that can pour 44 pints of beer by one person in 60 seconds.  The best part is that is pours beer from the bottom of the cup to the top.  It's really incredible.

Here is a line to the website with the video of the guy pouring 44 pints in 60 seconds.

Willy Wonka

Haven't checked in here for awhile and only read the last few pages but...

In terms of "pampering" recruits, I've heard from reliable people that former SJU QB Ryan Keating became a Johnnie only after Smith promised him the starting PG role on the basketball team. He didn't get the same, uh, commitment at GAC, where his father attended (I think).

Not that it's neither here nor there...but just something that might add to this offseason discussion.

Oh, and my dad can beat up your dad!  ;)
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Touchdown Tommy

Clark:  let me get on the horn with my pal VOJ tomorrow.

Zip:  Veek wants you to caddy for him in July.  Can you make this happen?  He is a good tipper since he plays to a +63...

Lastly, can we just crown the Tommies?  They are the champs!!
Chasing MILFs since '82...

Just to let you know, NWH, we are all chuckling because you have greatly missed the point, not tmerton.

There are thirteen hints I could give that would let you know why you missed the point, but I'll let you try to figure it out on your own instead.
