I'm confused...

how does Matson, lb @ Augsburg, make 3rd team All-American when he failed to even receive 1st team All Miac honors and two of the other linebackers who did were not awarded All-American status ahead of him? ????  Watching him against Bethel I was not impressed, a lot of tackles 5 - 10 yards down field and pretty slow.

Does anyone know who votes for d3 All-Americans?  I have a feeling this was a case of great stats on a bad defense.  Or maybe the d3 voters have the inside track over the coaches on who the real talent in the Miac is?!?!

Interesting final poll.  I'm surprised to see Capital as high as they are with 3 losses.  I guess taking it to the wire agains't MUC will get you votes.  SJU #7 and Concordia #8 seems pretty fair.  Some good team in the MIAC this year (not Bethel, though ;D).

Duffman-Please remember that two of Capital's losses were close games with Mount Union. Either or both they could have won. (The other one I can't explain)
Same as it ever was...same as it ever was...same as it ever was...

The second meeting was close, but the first was 42-24, and they lost to a 7-3 Otterbein team.  Not criticizing, just pointing out, though.

seventiesraider...I tried to bring your karma up to -27.
Your point is well-taken.
People west of Von Wurt County forget those 2 (two) character building games with Union.

but the first was 42-24,

Actually, Capital lead Mount 17-14 entering the 4th quarter before 2 long TD passes to Garcon put it away.  And if I remember right, they were playing without their best WR that torched MUC for 200+ in the second game.

Still can't explain the loss to Otterbein though.  Those of us in the OAC have been scratching our heads all season over that one.  Best I can figure is that the Otter game was the next week after Capital's huge 54-0 win in the season opener over Wittenberg (which was the NCAC's pre-season favorite) and they took Otter a little too lightly.  Of course a couple turnovers in the last few minutes didn't help either. ;D

With D3 being dominated by regional play, it's hard to get a good read on teams across the nation.  Until the playoffs, I think it's as much reputation is it is being that good.  I will say though that Capital gave MUC all they could handle, TWICE.  They could have easily won either of those games.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

I definitely agree with you on that.  I just thought that was a pretty high ranking for a team with 3 losses, no matter to who the losses were to.  I've never seen Capital play, and I'm sure the most OAC followers haven't seen SJU play since 2003, and have never seen Concordia play.  It was just a comment.

Capital is also Otterbein's archrival and has played Capital close even in down years.  Also, it was the opening of Otterbein's new stadium. Kind of a perfect storm of three factors, one of which was, indeed, Capital's fault (cruise control after Witt-washing).

Mighty Royal, I know SJU's D will loose alot of big names: Dumo, Zauhar,Good, Hawn, and T. Steffensmeir, while the O-line looses Nelson, Mathiason(already out at MC game) and Schumacher and also Corey Weber.  But as Gag's said, "we just need to find more irrereplaceable(sp) guy's." So SJU will, as usual just reload, not rebuild. ;D   Also Linfield will loose a big step without Elliot.  What about the Royals, are they gonna compete next yr? ::)

Of course not!

Geez, their JV team lost to Northwestern.  What does that tell you?    ;)

Wildcat......who cares? his season and career are over. Pick up the pieces and move on with your life already.

His season is over; I seriously doubt his career is over.  He WILL be playing on Sundays!

If the kid couldnt even hold onto the job at a I-A school, the only Sundays he'll be playing football is at family picnics.

I'm sure he is a fine young man and I dont mean to disparge him, but he is not the 2nd coming of Joe Montana, he is not a Manning,....he isnt even a Losman. He's a very good d3 QB, but that doesnt put him near NFL talent level.

like bennie, as much as i'd like to see a d3 player make it in the NFL, it just doesnt happen often because the level of talent isn't the same. I dont watch d3 sports in hopes of seeing an NFL/MBL/NBA caliber player. I watch and enjoy d3 sports because they are the best and most competitive around. The athletes at this level play for self pride, self respect and love of the game. What more could you ask for?

Brett Elliott broke his wrist while at Utah. There was a guy named Alex Smith, you know Heisman finalist, #1 NFL draft pick, waiting in the wings. Mr. Elliott had a choice: sit on the bench or go play elsewhere. He chose to go play near home.

QuoteHe's a very good d3 QB, but that doesnt put him near NFL talent level.
I am not saying he is a Montana or Manning, but if he is only a very good d3 quarterback, why has practically every NFL team sent scouts to watch him. Has that happened to other d3 quarterbacks? If so, let me know. How many other d3 players, let alone quarterbacks get to play in the Hula Bowl? I took two different people, who are pretty knowledgable football folks, to watch Linfield play this year, and both had the same reaction, WOW! this kid is the real deal.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!!
