How many other d3 players...get to play in the Hula Bowl?

Blake Elliot did.  And he didn't get drafted.  And I think the road to the NFL from DIII has got to be even tougher for a QB.  I don't see it happening, but if it does, good for him.

If Elliott is healthy and if he so desires, he will be on the roster of some NFL team at its summer camp. His performance there will determine whether he is given further opportunities.

I find it funny that two years ago a similar situation was developing with a different Elliott who had just won the Gagliardi trophy.  People were debating where he'd go in the NFL.  Heck, Dr. Dirk was ready to buy season tickets to the NFL team that drafted him.

Now, when the Linfield fans want to pump up their QB, they are "crazy" or "ridiculous".

I'm not saying that it's ridiculous, I'm just saying that you've got to be realistic.  There are a lot of good QB's at the DI, DI-AA, and DII levels, too, and they're not all going to get a shot.  I think we've learned in the past few years with Hoag and Elliot, just how difficult it is for a DIII players to break into the league.  And, like I said, I'll bet it's even more difficult for a QB.  The only time I've seen Brett Elliot play is in the 2004 Stagg, but I'd be willing to bet that there are a lot of QB's in DI, DI-AA, and DII that are just as talented.

I wouldn't call Linfield fans "crazy" or "ridiculous", I am just pointing out that it will be an up hill battle for Brett. The other thing to keep in mind is that Blake and Ryan Hoag for that matter, played a position that would allow them the opportunity to be on special teams as well as their "regular" position of wide receiver. Blake could even play as a running back if needed. Most quarterbacks don't have that kind of versitility, at least at the NFL level. Maybe I am wrong and someone can give me an example of a NFL quarterback that changed positions. I guess that I am trying to say that it seems that there are far fewer opportunities to make a place for yourself on a NFL roster if you are a quarterback. I wish Brett the best of luck.

I got to agree with Bennie here.  I am not wishing ill will towards BE, or Linfield fans, but I would say that you have to be very careful about proclaiming him as good as dfafted because of what he has done on the D3 level.  QB is maybe the position that players need to be the most polished when they come in the league.  Also, the inability to play special teams is also a good point.  I wish Brett all the luck in the world, but if I were a Linfield fan I wouldn't hold my breath waiting to buy the Brett Elliott replica Seahawk jersey.

Joshua Cribbs, Kent State QB, Cleveland Browns kick return specialist and wide receiver. Although he is working with a totally different skill set than Brett Elliot. It has been done though. :)
Same as it ever was...same as it ever was...same as it ever was...

Pat Coleman

Matt Jones, the Jaguars rookie, is a pretty famous example.

Okay, okay!! ;D I obviously don't follow pro football all that closely! I know more about the NHL than the NFL. I would imagine though that they are more the exception than the rule.

I think the Packers could use some quality DIII players to improve their team.  I couldn't even watch last night's game after the 1st quarter.  Funny thing is Madden still went on and on about how good Favre is, even when he's throwing INT's left and right.  He's a horrible announcer.  As is the woman who announces on ESPN2 on Saturday afternoons.  Any others come to mind?

I'd post a lot more if I had a real job

Willy Wonka

Matt Jones is the most recent example, but Hines Ward, A. Randel El, Arnaz Battle and Eric Crouch all come to mind. Well...maybe not Crouch, though he did win some award too, didn't he? :)
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Kordell Stewart. Randall Cunningham. Dave Lewis. Sammy Baugh. Danny White. And on and on.
