Did anyone see the story in the Pioneer Press today about Dave Wright, the UST sports announcer?  Here is  a link to the article.  I've never met the guy but I have heard him a number of times!  Loud and obnoxious in my humble opinion....based on the following quote by him he doesn't seem to have the same opinion of himself,

"A lot of PA guys yell. You can be excited without yelling. I try to make a point of being real clear. I'd rather understate than overstate. There's nothing worse than a screaming PA announcer."

Happy New Year!
I probably heard him before I ever met him, but didn't realize it. But having met him a few years ago, he is quite a nice guy, especially for a Tommie  :o
He's a typical sports nerd, his friends call him "Stats"

Perhaps a better way to approach this would be for the party to (gasp!) ask to be reinstated, rather than to continually sneak back onto the board. There might be some willingness to work with someone who's willing to be straightforward instead of devious.
Hypothetically speaking, what does one have to do to get 86ed from this board?
Or, non-hypothetically, just what the hell did TDT do last year?

I actually missed exactly what lead to his/her banishment last year.  Care to enlighten us, Pat?

Are you answering my first question, or the second? ???

I'm sure he is.  Barkley was also pretty good, but he never got the Tommies into the play-offs.  Quick lesson:  quit trying ;D

Any football-related New Year's Resolutions for us fans?

I hereby resolve to not get too excited about 7 hour drives into cheeseland for playoff games against non-descript D2 schools disguised as D3 programs.

There, I got it going...

It's hard to blame anyone for trying to reincarnate themselves so they can participate in such a great website!  It's actually a compliment.  If this site stunk, who would bother attempting to return?

My guess is that TDT wanted to prove that he could stay within the permitted boundries on this site.  If he hadn't reincarnated himself, it may have been more difficult to believe that he was sincere.  He has obviously atoned for his past mistakes and he should be allowed back with a negative karma of 100!  Then we'll see how much lower we can take it from there.

Fins - I heard the crappies are biting on Green Prairie Fish lake which is located close to your buddy Wheeler!  You should stop up, catch a few, and head on over to visit your old friend before he is closed down for good.  Come to think of it, that may have already occurred.  Last I heard his son was applying for a liquor license so a future client may already be in the works for you.
Go Johnnies!!!

Magic,

Sounds like sour grapes.

WW is as much D3 as SJU.  They had a great team this year.  They also have a pretty good history.  They earned and deserved everything they got this year.

I wish they had won the Stagg.  That loss cost me the MIAC playoff pick'em.   :'(

I resolve not to pick on TDT if he allowed back on the board. ;)

I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

I just posted this question on the MIAC basketball board:
Which team has had the bigger drop-off over the past 5-10 years: UST football or SJU basketball?
Any thoughts?

faunch, I was at UST last night and was that ugly.   Ouch.  Spanking.  Though I did spy ROR & Son across the gym from me.

But SJU basketball is still where it was 10 years ago: 3-4 place in the MIAC (though a down year for the last two).  Yeah, they got killed last night, but so did the Gusties by this same UST team.  And that was at GAC.

So I still say UST football.  When was their last MIAC title?  SJU at least won the MIAC in basketball in 2001...

From Shooter today:  ) Football coaches Glen Mason of the Gophers and John Gagliardi of St. John's will fly together Saturday to Lincoln, Neb., for Gophers senior Greg Eslinger's acceptance of the Rimington Trophy, emblematic of the top college center in the country. Gagliardi will be a keynote speaker.
SJU Champions 2003 NCAA D3, 1976 NCAA D3, 1965 NAIA, 1963 NAIA; SJU 2nd Place 2000 NCAA D3; SJU MIAC Champions 2018, 2014, 2009, 2008, 2006, 2005, 2003, 2002, 2001, 1999, 1998, 1996, 1995, 1994, 1993, 1991, 1989, 1985, 1982, 1979, 1977, 1976, 1975, 1974, 1971, 1965, 1963, 1962, 1953, 1938, 1936, 1935, 1932

SUMMIT!!!!!

Esq-- it wasn't all that bad....no worse than the football game in November felt (and nearly always feels)    :)  But, yeah, SJU played bad, while UST looked awfully good.

Faunch-- Its hard to compare the two (UST football, SJU hoops)... in the past 30 years, UST has won one football title and shared 3, so middle of the pack is hardly a drop off. It's more like the U of MN and its "Tradition of Mediocrity".  In that same span, SJU has won 7 basketball titles (the only ones SJU has won). So I guess I'd have to say SJU hoops has fallen further, as they had further to fall. Also, UST never had fan support for football and that is unchanged, whereas Rat Hall and the Palestra (pre-Sexton remodeling) were as frightening of a place to play as Cameron... now, you can hear a pin drop, even during the SJU/UST game.

Also, I was saddened by the stream of SJU fans pouring out of the gym during the game... by the 10:00 mark of the 2nd half, over half of the smallish contingent of Johnnie "faithful" had departed.
After the game, the king and pawn go into the same box.
