Bench:  pardon my ignorance (and maybe this misses the point of your post), but a "downtown Grand Forks" exists?

Looking forward to a Tommies vs Linfield matchup in the playoffs...

Grand Forks/EGF is approximately 60,000 people. Large campus, industrial park, 2 hospitals at Altru and the Aurora, Crystal Sugar, Simplot, LM Glass Fiber, Cirius aviation, Federal Courthouse, County Courthouse, the North Dakota Mill, $100 million hockey arena, Alerus event center and indoor football stadium and 13 story Canad Inns complex attached,  4 high schools, heavily trafficked airport because of our aerospace/aviation program, Air Force Base, National Guard Armory, new 7 story county office building with nice rotunda, new 300 bed correctional facility, fairgrounds, law school, med school, 2,000 plus acres of park land on the greenway, 7 golf courses within 20 miles, 50 some-odd bars,...

It's not the Cities, or even Fargo/Moorhead, but it's a decent size and equipped with a downtown.

AND...lacrosse may be a fun spectator sport/hockey on turf, but it's still for east coast cake eaters and dilutes their talent pool for football; which I think was the larger point. And ironic or not, not every Tommie grew up in EP, Edina and Minnetonka, sailing and playing lacrosse (although a lot did)...plenty guys from my era were from towns like Mora, I'ntl Falls, Fairbault, Duluth and...yes, Grand Forks.

Sugar beet farming- a.k.a.- a licenses to print money, kinda makes those cake eating LaCrosse players' daddys look like paupers, huh Bench 8-)
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

On my flight to DC this morning, a guy wearing a Navy Seal t-shirt...none other than Jesse "the body" Ventura! And man did he look rough. Being governor of MN seems to take even more toll physically than being prez  ;D

Clown though he may be, Jesse delivers arguably the best 18 seconds in cheesy action flick history during the original Predator.  (language warning)

The Stiftungsfestivities for the Ole game will be at the Odd Fellows Park in Northfield. When you are coming from highway 35 on MN-19 going east, look for Orchard St in Northfield. Turn left on Orchard and then take another left on Forest Avenue and go to the park. We will be starting the tailgate party at 10:00 a.m. Bring a culinary delight to share.

Luckily the attendance was only those 800 some odd folks, that way there were the only people who heard the profanity laced (yelled) comment line the 3rd quarter( I think) as they came off of the Field  by a Carl Coach (or player). And I quote" DO NOT OPEN YOUR EFFIN MOUTH TO A/THE DAMN REFS".  Of course that was followed by a chorus of jeers and boo's form the Johnnie faithful. Wow for $51lk per year that is what you get down there huh?
I hope that it was addressed by someone in a postion of authority in Carleton!

I think the "comment" came from one of the players and Kurt went directly to the player and addressed it immediately. Certainly not OK, but these things happen.

I, too, wish to extend my congratulations to the Tommies on winning the MIAC Championship.
But such wishes must be tempered with some Tommie humor...

A Tommie and a Johnnie somehow ended up at the same barber shop. As they sat there, each being worked on by a different barber, not a word was spoken. The barbers were even afraid to start a conversation, for fear it would turn to football.
As the barbers finished their shaves, the one who had the Tommie in his chair reached for the aftershave. The Tommie was quick to stop him saying, 'No thanks, my wife will smell that and think I've been in a whorehouse, 'The second barber turned to the Johnnie and said, 'How about you sir? The Johnnie replied, 'Go ahead; my wife doesn't know what the inside of a whorehouse smells like.'

The San Francisco Giants parade will start two blocks from my office and then pass directly in front of our building at about 11:15 tomorrow (1:15 Minnesota time).  Woo hoo!  Oz, I think this even beats an Aussie Rules Football championship!   1954 was a long time ago; good to get off the schneid.

And yes, I'll join in congratulating the Toms on their championship.  As with the Giants, it's been a long time coming, though not quite as long.  While I'm at it, congratulations to Ben Wartman as well.

Tommies, can you hear - never mind.

You are rolling along nicely and if we can just keep our ship righted then you deserve your chance to do to us what California Lutheran  University did to us....give up 28 points in the first half.

The point, of course, being that it is tough to learn about the outside world from the middle of the woods.

Would love to see a rematch. Just not at the Catdome.

Of course. Then there's the point that the middle of the woods would by definition be the outside world.
Then, of course, another point would be that the toughest place from which to learn about the outside world would be from inside a narrow mind.
