finsleft, thanks for posting the pictures from the EelPout Festival. Since they didn't have any pictures from the EelPout PeelOut five mile run, I am not depicted in any of them.

Are you the guy in the big furry hat, or the guy in the blaze orange jacket lagging behind?

A few Poutfests ago, there was an ice auger that was drilled into the lake. The auger portion was frozen into the ice. People were encouraged to lay on top of the auger motor and rev the motor up, thereby causing the person to start spinning around very fast. Most people doing it got thrown off the auger. Reward for taking the joy ride: all the Stite beer you could drink.
Sounds like a fun ride. Make it a Hamm's and I'm in!

finslet, I was not pictured. Always great to run a race in northern Minnesota and finish fourth in your age division. :-[
Fortunately things got better over the summer months.

Social event of this week: Funk Junkies playing this Saturday night at the Hollywood Sports Complex in Hollywood Township, Carver County. Complex is west of Watertown, MN. Be there or be square. ;D

My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Elliot family and Blake's extended SJU family.  Blake has had an incredibly difficult 5 years or so here.  Please keep him in your prayers.

I echo Duff's prayers.  Mr. Elliott was a great man, and his family has been through a lot the past few years.

I came across an interesting article today at work...well at least I thought it was interesting! :) It is about the referendum that was pushed through in 2004 anual NCAA convention, namely getting rid of redshirting and shortening the "non-traditional season". Now that D3 schools have had to live with the changes for a year, some are looking to go back to the old rules.

Enjoy! ;)

Good find, Bennie-- there was a discussion going on the daily dose a few days ago about these same topics.  I'm intrigued as to what will result at the convention.

Speaking of which, and relating back to an earlier discussion between you and I, the results from the first financial aid study among D3 schools should be coming out soon.   That way we can tell if athletes get special treatment with aid at schools or not.  Should be very interesting...

Edit: I take that back-- 11% of NCAA D3 members are being asked by the NCAA to submit written justification why athletes get 4% more aid than other students.  Those responses are due by Feb. 1.  Anyone know of any MIACers contacted?

I am always some what skeptical of any reports that are based on self-report. That is kind of the fox guarding the hen house in my opinion. ;D

I'm pretty sure the foxes at UST have been guarding hen houses for a while.   ;)

Self-reporting of financial aid discrepancies is as accurate and realistic as the vatican banishing gay priests.

A little cathcing up to do, so sorry if I ramble.

I had the pleasure of being in Las Vegas over New Years.  Nothing real exciting, but a couple of little stories.

While waiting outside the hotel to check luggage, proudly wearing my SJU hat and sweatshirt, a man walking by stopped and asked "Collegeville?" I replied yes and he gave me a big thumbs up.  Well, his daughter walking behind him stuck her nose in the air and in a snooty voice said "I'm a Tommie." (it almost sounded like she was proud of it).  I politely told her to just keep walking which her dad must've thought was pretty funny as he laughed out loud at the comment.

I had the opportunity to meet DenSLA from Linfield while I was out there and we did a t-shirt and hat swap.  While we were visiting, a man with a Bethel Soccer shirt walked past, so of course we stopped him.  Turns out he was actually from a Bethel High School in Ohio somewhere.  I think he said that they suck too.

Here's to five more years of Golden Gopher Football Mediocrity.

I saw that Gordy Wheeler's name came up again.  I recently found out that my Aunt is Gordy's brother.  I've known my aunt for almost 30 years and didn't find that out till now.  I'm just guessing that she's not real proud of that fact.

That's all I've got for now.

Collegeville Magic- good playing trivia with you on Saturday-- we'll have to do it again soon.

In spite of all the fox guarding the hens, 11% of D3 schools STILL had arose the NCAA's suspicions, then.  What does that say about those 48 schools?  Fuzzy math gone awry?

I don't have that button on any of my posts.  It must be a privilege that is earned over time.
