I hope you raised a lot of money.
I raise money and work a Special Olympics swim meet and bowling tournament every year and always have a great time although it's tough sometimes when the kids start crying when you pin their ribbons on.

57,

Pin the ribbons to their warm-up suit (not to their bare skin) to cut down on the crying  :'(

I'm usually all for cracks about SCSU football. But...in 2007, those subpar St. Cloud State players defeated Whitewater 26-16. And it was 26-3 until the fourth quarter. SCSU went 4-7 that year. Whitewater won the D3 national title. I think it's pretty obvious SCSU often has many players who are superior to what the Johnnies have. And, being D2, they should.

That undermines the Wiscy schools benefit from no D2 presence argument as well.  So we're left with... The Johnnies (and other MIAC) may pick up a couple locals that don't want to go away from home but the best SCSU players (and future players of their ilk) will find comparable D2 programs to join?

I still think the biggest benefit will  be a larger potential audience.

I'm not sure how much crossover there is between SCSU fans and SJU fans. I know of a few SCSU alums that put the Huskies first and then attend 1-2 SJU games per year, but I'm reticent to put a prediction on how many we would pull in the absence of SCSU football.
SCSU typically draws near 4,000 fans per game on average. And, I think it would take a total dismantling of the Huskies football program to get any measurable percentage of those fans to become regulars at Clemens Stadium.

And you've got us feelin' alright.

even then, do you really want former Huskie fans jumping on your bandwagon?

Good luck to the Johnnie wrestlers this weekend!  SJU qualified wrestlers at seven of the ten weights--a first!  A team title seems a little unlikely, but it's definitely possible.

Submitted without comment ... but I'm guessing there might be some

http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-father-son-coaches-20110309,0,2892811.story

My comment is that the exception proves the rule, not to make comment on it's obvious local implications.

On the article specifically, it lists one son after another that was fired after two or three seasons, the argument being that sons can't make it.  I wonder how many new coaches that don't have a family legacy at an institution are fired after two or three seasons?  Lots, probably.  Does that mean no new coach is any good?  Or does it mean that it's really hard to be successful as a new coach?  And with the very small pool of sons following successful fathers, the chances of lightening striking twice are even more slim?

It's a simple question of probabilities compounded by very high expectations.

Actually, I will comment on the local situation.  What's the chance of lightening striking twice in the same family?  Very, very slim, just as a matter of probabilities.  Given that we would love to see the House that John Built continue after John has left, what are the odds of lightening striking from left field with someone of a different pedigree?  Equally if not even more slim.  I don't envy the very difficult decision.

Last night at the BDB household:

11 year old daughter- "Dad, what are you giving up for Lent?"

BDB- "I dunno. What did I give up last year?"

Daughter- "Archery." with hand on hip and some disgust  :-[

BDB- "OK. Well, then this year I will give up water polo."  ::)

Daughter- "Dad!" with much disgust  :P
