Well Oz, how did our favorite AFL team fare?
Everyday is payday in paradise.

A plug for Fulton Beer in the Star Trib.  Two of the owners are former Johnnie o-linemen.  If you're in the MPLS area, I highly recommend Sweet Child Of Vine.

A tradition unrivaled...

The BBE Jaguars are tearing through the MN state basketball tournament.  I might have to do the unthinkable tomorrow and watch a basketball game!

Today...not so good.

Tough time to pick up their first loss of the season.
Imagine having a player the size of Josh Panske, 6'8" & 285 lbs, coming off the bench for the opposition to "own the paint"- that was the difference. :-\
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Well Oz, how did our favorite AFL team fare?

And he twists the knife a little harder... I suspect you know the answer to that question.

The Hawks demonstrated amazing skills for a quarter and a half to break out to an overwhelming first half lead against the Adelaide Crows on Saturday.  And then they demonstrated an amazing second half collapse as they made every poor decision possible, fobbed every basic skill required and behaved as if the word "teamwork" was yet to be invented in order to go down by over 20 points.  A demoralizing loss that left me sitting on the couch wondering why the hell I keep buying season tickets, to be honest.  They weren't even Cleveland Indians bad in that they reveled in their ineptitude.  They were Vikings bad in that the only thing they do better than show potential is **** it all up.  There is not one positive take away from that game.  Not one.

Video of the debacle, if you're interested, can be found here.

EDIT:  But on the bright side, we play again this week.  We take on the Melbourne Demons on Sunday afternoon.  The two oldest girls and I will be going with friends that support the Demons.  As a loyal (but quite obviously frustrated supporter) I hold out hope that the shocking play of the first outing will be addressed in the training this week.  Additionally, we hope to have our captain back, the iron man Luke Hodge who has suffered from a nagging pre-season Achilles strain, and that should make a big difference in on field smarts.

So Go Hawks!  Kill Murder Destroy Overcome those Demons!

Josh was more 6'6", 300.  That's more Tom Engwall-ish :)

Craziest tsunami footage yet.  Hard to believe this is real.  You need to watch it twice to realize how high the swell was.  Whoever filmed this came within a couple feet of not delivering the video.  And they are on the roof about an 5-floor building at the water's edge.

EDIT: I clicked a couple links and found this this video of the same town about half a mile inland from the last video.  I think I can see the buildings the other guy was at in the distance.  Anyway, this video is notable for the first minute where a woman with the most irritating voice you could ever get caught in a tsunami with is yammering away.  About a minute in, however, she suddenly stops.  I reckon someone kicked her off the edge.

Better late than never...Congrats Tommies on a great season and your first Nat. Title. Great for the MIAC!

Another Aussie first - and one of which Oz should rightly avail himself.  Especially since it's right in Melbourne.

First task - seek forgiveness for posting about the Hawks (geez, Pat, if you want to delete posts ... )

It's one thing to go noticin' that some confession would do me good, but it's a whole other thing to spurn my Hawks.

The girls and I went to the footy last night with some friends that support the rival Melbourne Demons.  The Hawks came out hard and fast in the first quarter but amazingly inaccurate kicking for goal left the just a couple points in front of the equally amazingly accurate Dees.  And the Hawthorn went on vacation and start making bad decisions one after the other compounded mynskills errors on the simplest skills.  They found themselves trailingnat the half and mentally out ofnthe game... Sigh.  Disaster seemed certain.

The Hawkers came out just as flat to start the third quarter but then at the seven minute mark they somehow launch into devastating form and go on to crush the Demons.  It was fun to watch, but ominous.  I fear that their decision making remains really poor and their ability ti make good decisions when not in a zone is non-existent.  We'll see, but I'm afraid I'm in for a season of disappointment.

Click: A dark day in Minnesota sports.

Well, maybe there is a problem with minors getting loaded at Twins games that justified this effort, but I doubt it.  I wonder why his company kept him suspended if he beat the charges?  Maybe they think that Wally was lucky with these charges and they know or suspect he is selling to minors so they must protect themselves.

The guy sold a lot of beer and climbed a lot of steps, and missed a lot of plays.  8-)

In 1972, Joe Miller was on holiday in Kenya after graduating from Tulsa Junior College .

On a hike through the bush, he came across a young bull elephant standing with one leg raised in the air. The elephant seemed distressed, so Joe approached it very carefully. He got down on one knee, inspected the elephants foot, and found a large piece of wood deeply embedded in it. As carefully and as gently as he could, Joe worked the wood out with his knife, after which the elephant gingerly put down its foot.

The elephant turned to Joe, and with a rather curious look on its face, stared at him for several tense moments. Joe stood frozen, thinking of nothing else but being trampled.  Eventually the elephant trumpeted loudly, turned, and walked away. Joe never forgot that elephant or the events of that day.

Thirty years later, Joe was walking through the Tulsa Zoo with his family. As they approached the elephant enclosure, one of the creatures turned and walked over to near where Joe and his family were standing. The large bull elephant stared at Joe, lifted its front foot off the ground, then put it down The elephant did that several times then trumpeted loudly, all the while staring at the man.

Remembering the encounter in 1972, Joe could not help wondering if this was the same elephant... Joe summoned up his courage, climbed over the railing, and made his way into the enclosure. He walked right up to the elephant and stared back in wonder. The elephant trumpeted again, wrapped its trunk around one of Joe's legs and slammed him against the railing killing him instantly.

...

Probably wasn't the same elephant.

Hey, Oz - As a native Tulsan, with friends who teach at TJC, please pick Arkansas or West Virginia for the venue of your next bumpkin joke. 8-)
