MINNEAPOLIS — Miller, Coors and other popular beers may disappear from Minnesota stores and bars within days because brewing giant MillerCoors lacks the proper licenses due to the state's government shutdown.
Leinenkugel beers aren't in danger because their licenses are good through 2012, MillerCoors spokesman Tom Ryan said.

What the hell is the University of St. John's????  It's SJU not USJ.

Ha! That's called a typo. Maybe somewhere in the kindness of your soul you can find a way to forgive me.  ;)

Then again, seeing how much it seems to rankle you, maybe I just stumbled across the USJ equivalent of USTd  8-) Some sort of freudian slip after having just typed University of Saint Thomas. My apologies to God, the monks and Gags for casting you in the same light as that institution on summit  ;D

Here are my picks for the 2011   :D
1st: University of Macalester
2nd: St. Mary's State
3rd:  University of Augsburg  Auggie Tech  ;)
T-4th:  Gustavus Adolphus University
T-4th:  Community College of Carleton
T-4th: University of Concordia
7th: St. Olaf University
8th: College of St. John's
9th: College of St. Thomas
10th: Bethel Evangelical College

Very nice!

I don't think this has been posted yet, but in response to Clark's earlier question about any Johnnie recruits playing in the state All-Star game... from gojohnnies.com:

"Five Johnnie Recruits Play in State All-Star Game"

For the North team we had two linebackers, an offensive lineman, and a defensive lineman.  One of the linebackers was the North's leading tackler.

For the South team we had the big passing quarterback that threw for the South's only score.

Just think what we could have had with new tiles in the showers.  Damn.

Does this explain why USC is Sumander's favorite team and why he spends so much time in Arizona? 8-)

Moved to the Kansas City area this Spring...four months in and I really miss Minnesota.

Temps in high 90's and low 100's for the rest of the week. Heat index of 108-110 for today and tomorrow. Give me -20 and wind chill over this any day of the week!

Well, he's certainly within striking distance.

I think it's just a part of that depression-era generation's mindset. My grandpa is the same way, still farming full time in IA well into his 80's, replaced ankles, knees and all. He'd go crazy if he wasn't out in the yard doing chores everyday. That and my grandma probably wouldn't know what to do with herself if he was inside! I still have wonderful nightmares about walking beans and bailing hay and castrating pigs until I thought I'd drop, but if the sun didn't set I don't think they'd have ever quit working.

No doubt something my generation and others can learn from this.

hazzbeen, I know just what you mean.  My dad is now 92, but when he was in his late 60s, my brother and a co-owner friend (both around 40), and a crew of high school students were building their "Octagon" - an 8-sided (obviously :P) 'cabin' in Wisconsin.  Dad came up to help.  They were certainly not going to let 'an old man' outwork them, so got a lot done in a short time.  Bro also admitted that they took three days off to recuperate after dad left! ;D

Beautiful, nothing better than old, gristly men working us youngsters to the bone and showing us a thing or two!

Mr. Ypsi

When dad was 75, I suspect he could still have beaten my 45-year-old self to a pulp if he had felt the need!  (Now that he is 92, I think I could take him, except guilt might hold me back! ;D)  Since mom is 93, and they will celebrate their SEVENTYETH anniversery in two weeks (and since she has him wrapped around her little finger), I don't think I'm taking either of them on! :D

[Since my best friend (who is blind) lost his mom last week (he obvioulsly could not go check up on her 30 miles away, and finally got concerned enough to call his cousin, who broke a window to find her looking peaceful, but dead, in her favorite chair - estimates are that she died 5 days earlier), I thank my lucky stars for my heredity.  I am 10 days shy of 63, yet have lost no close relatives.  If you don't have to put up with me for 30 more years, it is probably my own damn fault for smoking and drinking too much! ::)]

Naw, your orneriness is enough to detoxify any carcinogens currently found in tobacco smoke (or any other herbal blend). As for your drinking, you can look on most commercial antibacterial/disinfectant sprays and see that the active ingredients include ethanol.   ;)

I think that you are good for another 30 years.

Mr. Ypsi

Remember, folks, you heard this from a doctor! ;)  If I'm ornery enough, and get pickled often enough, I may live forever! ;D

(Taking a large gulp of my LaBatts Blue): You kids, get off my front lawn! :P
