The wedding of a Gustie/great friend of my brother's, starts in Grand Forks at 3pm. UST plays Concordia at 1pm 75 miles away in Moorhead. I have suite tickets to the Fighting Sioux game at 6pm. Fiancee lady/Occupation Therapist works every 5th weekend, and this weekend is hers to work, so, she dictates very little that happens prior to 4:30pm. Suggestions?

Attend whichever event provides the greatest opportunity for you to consume the most free beer  :o

+K. It's so simple, yet so wise. Staying in GF and cabbin' it from locale to locale. Open bar at the reception and Dakota Sales (local Budweiser distributer) provides free bevies at the tailgate I attend.

I have it on good authority that SJU56321 will be in Collegeville on Saturday with 40 of his world famous Chicago Polish Sausages.

Can't wait to see you next week Clark!!!  See you at UST!!

Veek:  Will you be attending the game on Saturday?  I know you've got some potential conflicts.  Zip wants your VIP 50 yard line seats if you can't make it...

Benchwarmer: Are you coming to the "big city" on Oct. 1 to witness the carnage?  It could be epic...

Hazzben: Please rank your top KC bbq joints.

Bars stage unofficial St. Cloud State homecoming
Associated Press

Updated: 09/20/2011 08:34:42 AM CDT

St. Cloud State University has canceled its homecoming festivities, but that hasn't stopped a group of downtown bars from staging an unofficial homecoming celebration.

St. Cloud Hospitality Association president Dan Wedin says about 15 to 20 businesses will host the traditional breakfast and drink specials on Saturday, Oct. 8. The St. Cloud Huskies will host Minnesota State-Mankato at 1 p.m.

Earlier this year St. Cloud State got rid of the traditional homecoming event, and replaced it with a series of four "Celebrate! St. Cloud State" events. President Earl Potter has called the old homecoming a tradition the university was not proud of, including a full day of drinking known as "kegs and eggs."

BDB sez: You can't drink all day unless you start in the morning!

I haven't been down here long, so I'm not going to try to rank 'em yet. But here's what I've heard and tasted so far:

Arthur Bryant's is the oldest and original 'Best BBQ' in town (and some would argue the nation). Old school, grass roots, just good.

Fiorella's Jack Stack BBQ is the best high class stuff. They've got the best sides (cheesy corn bake & beans anyone!!). My favorite is actually their Prime Rib, it's smoked and has a ridiculously good flavor. You can actual order Jack Stack through the mail. We received some when my current employer was courting us...it was just as good cooked at home. Order some up here and taste for yourself. Next time I'm up for an SJU - Bethel tilt I'll see if I can't bring a little Jack Stack along to the Stift festivities.

Oklahoma Joe's, how can you not love a place that started in a gas station. The original is still located there. Incredible pulled pork, very cool atmosphere.

Gates and Sons is an old school choice that seems to have sold out for marketing and I've been told has lost some of its classic flavor in the process.

The Burnt End BBQ is a newer one that stole a chef from Jack Stack. It's essentially Jack Stack on a budget, but with the same great sides and as the name would suggest, oh so delicious burnt ends.

Any place you run across in the ghetto of KCMO that is essentially selling BBQ out of the side of their house, garage or trailer is probably pretty stinkin' good. Just keep the car running and prepare for a quick departure after you purchase. Best advised to eat and drive if you go this route.

And I am now incredibly hungry for some burnt ends...

Hey easy. I wrote the press release for this today. (But I did sneak in a plug to SJU v Bethel)

TDT,

I will most definitely be making a trip to Metropolis October 1. I just hope merely casting my gaze on a > 5 story tall building (that is not a grain elevator) does not cause a seizure.

ANYWAY, the most important thing to establish at this point is pregame options. Plums and Tiffs are my old standbys...thoughts?

Bench-my uncle is receiving an award on Saturday at the game-outstanding Alumnus-the beer will be flowing from the Kieffers-I would go there prior to UND.

TDT is correct-I will be in Collegeville this Saturday with the Polish-but limited supply as I am flying in this time-so come early.

Am looking forward to seeing this team in person-are they getting better-have what it taks to knock off Bethel and UST?

Anyone else outside the metro area receive an invitation to watch the SJU v. Bethel game at an alumni event? How are they doing that-video at a home game?

Touchdown Tommy

Ahh Benchwarmer...the SJU tailgate on Summit Ave will be the spot.  You'll be welcome provided you bring the finest sweet corn for roasting.

Good insight Hazzben.  I've been to several of the KC BBQ meccas but was just looking for more perspective.  Where is the KC ghetto?  Pretty sure TC and I were through there a couple years ago on the way to Kauffmann Stadium.  We took the "back roads" from Country Club Plaza to Kauffmann without going on the interstate.  Interesting slums especially the grocery store where we picked up our tailgating supplies called the "Apple Market".

Hazz - I was always a Gates and Sons afficionado. That, like you, was some time ago. I'd hate if what you say you've heard is true.

I haven't had a chance to sample it recently so that's secondhand. I hope it's not true as well. One of these days I'll need to swing by and find out for sure.

Bench,  I'm afraid I have to agree with TDT.  Johnnie tailgate on the Summit boulevard and/or the median will be happening.  Hopefully St. Paul's finest will make a return appearance.

Johnnie Red, Miss Minnesota USA is a former Tommie.  Perhaps I can get her to make an appearance at the tailgate.  I was her boss at my last company.

Here's some of her current work.  She interviews Mike Grant in the second one.

Well, if you guys are tailgating on the median, I have every intention of seeing that. However, once the cops show up, I'm a ghost. What's St. Paul's policy on median drinking? They didn't have much of a policy on sidewalk/middle of the street drinking during the WCHA Final Five/NCAA Frozen Four last year.

You'll have to forgive my ignorance, this is my first UST/SJU game at UST since I was a "player." I've either been a broke law student, living in DC, or making the trip to Collegeville.
