RE: Caruso leaving

My only hope is that Mrs. Caruso reminds her husband how truly terrible Vermillion is, and that sometimes coaching D-1 isn't all it's cracked up to be. There's got to be a UNI assistant or someone from a crappy FCS town like Carbondale that would be good for the job.

OR...
He could be getting wicked national recognition after upsetting a FBS kingpin like this:

Oh, what could be, Mr. Caruso, what could be.....

The one thing that might keep Caruso from going for the USD job is the fact that the Dakota Dome is the worst facility in FCS and Vermellion is an absolutely god-awful town. Yet, being on the border of Nebraska, Iowa and SD opens a ton of recruiting possibilities. Who knows?

And this statement coming from a native & current resident of Grand Forks, North Dakota  ???

Based on your statement, and my respect for your authority of the subject, I took a look at the USD website and athletic facilities. They are currently on a renovation and building spree- similar to UST. As a guy who grew up on a dairy farm in central Minnesota I know exactly what my father would suggest be done with the Dakota Dome. He would do some calculating and figure out exactly how many bushels of soybeans he could store in that place. It looks like an over-sized grain bin. :o
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Grrrrr, Grand Forks, ND has an infinitely better facility for football right now (although I don't like indoor football personally), and USD is still years away from even getting close to having a stadium that doesn't look like a poor man's Astrodome. Not to mention the $100 million REA with the very nice Betty Engelstad Sioux Center attached to it for hoops, including plans for an indoor football practice facility as well as a potential renovation of their old football stadium for when their lease is up at the Alerus. You can check out the website below for UND's "Master Plan."

http://www.jlgarchitects.com/

And might I add, being relatively in the middle of Winnipeg and Fargo has been awesome for our economy.

I haven't seen USD's plans, but as it stands today, UND is WAY more prepared to be D-1 at this point. Vermillion is a toilet.

OK...there has been much speculation about the NCAA DIII Playoff Bracket Pairings....here is my idea and I would like your comments to refine it:

Here's an idea:

Take the top 4 teams and put them in 4 different brackets as #1 seeds. Then take the next 8 top teams (according to d3football.com poll...since they know better than any other poll/body) and divide them 2 each per bracket (it doesn't really matter after 4 because everybody after that point is pretty equal)... with those 2 teams in one side of the bracket, so the top team would supposedly play the winner of those 2 if they made it that far....then sprinkle all the other qualifier teams according to region in the 4 brackets....problem solved.

I will comment via math.  It is really a quite simple equation:

(x)(y) = Snowball's chance in hell. Where x is $/flight and y is the number of flights.

Under your system, the top 3 teams in each region of your bracket would look like this:

1. Whitewater
2. Cal Lutheran
3. Wabash

1. Mount Union
2. Wesley
3. Salisbury

1. St. Thomas
2. North Central
3. Delaware Valley

1. Mary Hardin-Baylor
2. Linfield
3. Kean

So, without even looking farther into the bracket, you are looking (if things go chalk) at 3 flights in the second round (of a possible 4) and 3 flights in the third round (of a possible 4).  The NCAA simply would not every risk that many flights.  Obviously, your system is great because it creates a truly national tournament where the best teams get a chance to play each other in the later rounds; but the bracket this year is the best you'll ever see.

My two cents...The only reason Caruso would take this would be to use it as a stepping stone to Division 1 (FBS).  If he flirts with the job U$T fans should be concerned that his intentions are for bigger (not necessarily better) and that he may eventually leave them.  If he demonstrates zero interest I think it's a strong indication that he'll be sticking around St. Paul for a longtime.

My personal opinion is that he's a D3 guy.  He's got a great thing going here and why on earth would he want to mess with that?  I don't think he's going anywhere.

Feel free to talk among yourselves....

I wonder if he still has a warm relationship with the administration at USD?
This is always a factor when a former ass't is a candidate to return as head coach.  Lots of people wonder why Les Miles hasn't returned to his roots at Michigan.  Well, there is a VERY strong reason for that which neither party wants coming to light. :o

Re: Brewster to Tulane
Not sure how much damage he could do to a program that's already burned to the ground.  They are awful.

BTW, if you have a chance to watch the documentary on the Alabama/Auburn rivalry that's been showing on the four letter network, it's well worth the watching.

I recorded it on my DVR the night it first aired. Auburn is 35 minutes away from my house, and I've been to two games at Jordan-Hare and two games at Bryant-Denny. Generally, I think it's a pretty good depiction of life down here, although the whole Harvey Updyke poisoning the trees on Toomer's Corner is a bit overblown. Updyke is a mentally diseased man that never attended the University of Alabama (or any college for that matter) and he is not representative of your mainstream football fan down here.

I've been to 14 games at 12 different schools in the south and I've come to find that Auburn and Alabama fans are two of the most friendly and passionate fanbases out there (LSU fans, in case you were wondering, are by far the worst.)

I did see War Eagle/Roll Tide and I my thoughts are that ESPN's 30 for 30 is very overrated. Many of the docmentaries have already been done way better by HBO. If you liked that documentary, I think you'd love Michigan/Ohio St. and Tobacco Road Duke/Carolina from HBO. Very good, and they don't cut out the swears!

Wasn't Harvey Updyke a State Patrolman at one time? That's frightening.

That's probably because the state trooper that just pulled you over was on Nick Saban's protective detail.

The scariest state troopers I have seen have got to be Georgia's. I swear these guys pop up out of nowhere and they go flying by you at 130 mph.

Legendary football coach values the game itself over attention and money

Developing....

Legendary coach sure has the same article written about him multiple times a year for a guy that loathes attention.

Had to do it.
