BDB,
If that did happen, I never heard about it.  I was only a sophomore then, though.  Linneman was a smart man, so I could see that happening, I guess.  I just can't confirm it.

A tradition unrivaled...

I'll echo the sentiments about Linneman being intelligent and provide a brief anecdote demonstrating this;

I was a young naive freshman at a house party in St. Joe on a Saturday evening following my FIRST SJU football game... a 40-7 romp over visiting Auggie Tech.

Knowing that my drunken cheering during the game greatly helped the outcome, I had decided to celebrate my contribution the way young (and old) Johnnies are wont to do, waiting in line for 15 minutes holding a $5 plastic cup waiting to get close enough to the Keg in the basement to be able to drink some precious nectar and maybe (God willing) become the almight "Tap master," leading to adoration from Johnnies and Bennies alike and everyone wanting to be my friend for the night.

I had just waited about 20 minutes to fill my $5 cup and was next at the tap when Linneman came up and started talking to me introducing himself as the starting QB and telling me that he really needed to cut in front of me to fill his cup (jumping the entire line of freshmen) so that he could sit and rest his body for next week. Not sure why, but I felt almost honored to let me cut in front of me.

Linneman was promptly followed by Pantzke, Kirshner, Denne, Pahula and several other players much larger than myself. All total, I had to wait an extra 8 minutes to fill my cup for my first beer and somehow Linneman had convinced me I was doing a great service in doing so.

God was I dumb.

I pondered the post total re-set you mentioned and elected not to.

Probably a generous move on your part to at least allow him a means of defense against the smite onslaught that awaits him....

Actually, he's down to 13 from 23 last night, I guess the onslaught has begun!

kiltedrat,

If it was a Hamm's keg at least it was worth the wait.

Kilted Rat

I believe it was either Busch deisel or Icehouse, whatever was cheaper that week.

Wish I would have been there, KR!  That was so nice of you.

I visited the LL board last night and johnny utah posted like 10 times in a row keeping count of his bud lights going down and bitching about the Duke basketball game he was watching.

I think he was at about 18 beers when he decided to go to a bar.

Duff,

You may have been, but you weren't a star yet, so I probably didn't recognize you ;D

Denne wasn't a star at that point, either, unless you followed MSHSL 3A football in the late 90's :P

True, but he was a least a Junior (eligibility wise I think).

Sumander,
Great I guess this means SJU is going to get an airport now too, it'll probably go where the rugby field is now...

Imagine the package they can offer the NCAA for hosting Playoff games: We have our own airport on campus for teams to fly into as well as a hotel to host them provided their school makes a mandatory minimum donation to the Monastery, in exchange, we'll name a parking ramp on campus for their school.

Not if it was your freshman year.  Ross and I were the same age.

finsleft

I think the old campus road leading up to the Prep School would make an excellent runway. Just have to mow down a few hundred acres of trees to accomodate the big guy's wings, then they could taxi right up to the Pervillion.
Yes, my old pal Tommy P is a busy lad. Pretty sure it wasn't Hamm's back then, but TP was an occasional visitor to the Finsleft on-campus pavillion back in the day.

Kilted Rat

Same difference  ::)

Unfortunately at this rate, kids will stop wanting to go to SJU since it is on pace to become another Augsburg with a less exciting night life and they may have trouble fielding as successful of a team without the kids!

Fins,
You still have any pull with him?
