First Time poster here.....

I must say that reading this board over the last three years have really entertained me while at work.  The amount of postings over this week seems to have picked up and thought it would be fun to join in!!  So Hello Everyone! :)

Welcome to the board & +k. Always (well, usually  ;)) good to have new posters on board. You've been reading for three years so you've probably got a good feel for things. We love talking smack, most of us get that it's all in fun and we try not to take ourselves too seriously. Unless we're discussing beer...on that note, had a Breckenridge 471 Double IPA the other night, very tasty.

My prediction:

UST - 34
SJF - 17

28 - 7 heading into the 4th quarter...

Sagatag,

I  work one block away from North Border Trophy, I propose making our own version of the "Holy Grail." The "Stiftungest/Cretin-Summit Traveling Cow Cup."  Winner gets to drink a post-game Hamm's out of it, in front of the loser making this face  :'(.
Shouldn't the loser be forced to drink Hamm's while the winner drinks something more palatable?

I'm chagrined to hear such blasphemy coming from your mouth, Duffman. A couple of years in "the cities" seems to have brought out the beer snob in you.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of all things beer, and enjoy tasting the variety of micros and seasonals. But ounce for ounce, dollar for dollar, it's hard to beat the combination of value and tasty golden goodness that a Hamm's has to offer. For a regular-type beer, it has far better flavor than a lot of the piss-in-the-can beers out there, and you can buy a 24 or turdy pack, and still walk out with change from your Jackson. As for the Johnny-Tommy rivalry, remember Hamm's brought the Twins to MN, its slogan "from the land of sky blue waters" is Sagatagan-esque, it is the beer that built St. Paul down at the blue-collar end of St. Paul, a short slide from the popped-collar end at UST.
You'll probably get all surly on me, but I hope next year Bench is pouring a Hamm's into the cup from which we most certainly will be drinking.

Prediction:
SJF 2
UST 0

2115 Summit

Thanks to all for the warm welcoming.

I was hoping I'd be able to get in a few posts before everyone figured out I was a Tommie! ;)  Guess the address of the University gave it away....Hmmm?????  So naive of me to really think the free advertisement of my favorite beer would throw some off! :o

Oh well!  IMHO, I think I have been reading these boards long enough to not only understand most everyone's humor, but that of their opinions as well.

So let the chatting begin!!

It really is too bad that most of you don't get to experience the delight of Ninkasi beer. Their Sleigh'r Dark Double Alt Ale is excellent and I am not even much of a beer drinker!

Welcome.  Just to let you know with "2115 Summit" you are indicating an affiliation with UST (which may or may not be the case).  Get ready for all hell to break loose if you say anything completely ignorant and inflammatory, especially if it in any way can be construed as a slight against a MIAC team that has recently experienced an "off season."  Also, you better present yourself as unsophisticated and dirt poor because any sign of pretentiousness or self-importance will be responded to with references to "cake eaters" attending fancy cocktail parties. Just an FYI...

On behalf of the rest of the board, fixed.  Yep, because anybody who didn't go to U$T is unsophisticated and dirt poor.  It's a shame Freebird doesn't come around anymore; you guys would get along REALLY well. ::)

Welcome to the board, 2115.

I actually was drinking some Hamm's over this past holiday and found it to not only be very good, but easy on the wallet as well.  I was very impressed.  Not sure if you are into pale ale's but if you are you should try a Mirror Pond.  Tried this while visiting my brother in Sioux Falls not long ago. It's a Deschutes beer from Bend Oregon.  They also have a Micro brewery in Portland that's alot of fun.

If not liking beer that tastes awful makes you a snob, count me in with the snob crowd.

Give me a Surly Furious or Bender any day, although the price of it does put a squeeze on my non-U$T income.  ;)

Sounds good.   A few weeks back I asked the board why UST football was so dominate in the MIAC this year.  What are your thoughts?  Is it the coaching, recruiting, facilities, teamwork, leadership, general excellence, a combination of these things, or something else all together?

As an aside, Summit Pale Ale is my beverage of choice that isn't widely available in the DC area.  It's like a free-for-all of consumption when I make it back to MN.  I'm not embarrassed to say that I served as the president of the History Club while at UST.  One of my minor successes was the establishment of the annual UST Summit Brewery Tour.  Of course the whole thing was about gaining a deeper understanding of brewing history in St. Paul.  However, a few free pints in the Summit Brewery Pub did make for an intoxicating experience.

The state of North Dakota's draconian microbrewing legislation has eased off considerably this last session, and the Fargo Brewing Company just came out with "Woodchipper IPA" which is available at JL Beers here in Grand Forks. I won't pretend to be a beer snob, but I dabble with the home kit from time-to-time.

That said, I think this cow cup idea is going to be a nice MIAC PP tradition, as will the post game Hamms.

This is too bad.  I think their Oatis Oatmeal Stout and Quantum Pale Ale would be enjoyable!

Us Upstate NYers would recommend a 'hearty' Genesee Cream Ale (it whistles on the way out  :-[) or Utica Club (different from the Utica FOOTBALL Club that is the perrenial E8 doormat)....

SUMMIT!!!!!

extending my welcomes, too, 2115.

my favorite beer is whatever one I'm drinking, even better when Fins is buying it. :)  I am still a Fat Tire fan, but recently tried something very different/unusal -- Banana Bread beer.... tasted like beer going down, but left a hint of banana bread in the after taste. Not saying it was "run out and buy" but it wasnt bad at all.

Looks like the Fowler Veranda is sold out.... still waiting to hear if my request made the cut or not.

The weather forecast sounds Minnesotan--- snow showers, temps hovering around freezing.

Final will be UST 28
                SJF  10

good god, Mr MIAC--- let your "dominate" question die already!! If it ever gets to the point fo UMU's dominance, then its a worthy query....till then, let it rest and enjoy the ride!

I too was ready to give Duff a strong and decisive -K for putting down the nectar known as Hamm's beer. But then I remembered he has a newborn at home so he is probably sleep deprived and delirious.
