Agreed, retagent.  That there are a couple hundred people voting to either rig the brackets or come up with a new rule is mind blowing.  But then I guess there are those who don't feel that they should have to earn something.

From a paragraph in the article leading up to the Podcast I would say the folks that argue that UWW and MUC "should go D-II" are typically very ignorant about our particular brand of football, or NCAA rules/AD budgets, in general. A few of them pop on here from time-to-time and usually someone is kind enough to explain why this is, after they've firmly facepalmed themselves.

The second component of this argument is whether or not to put these two teams in the same bracket in the playoffs. The fan in me wants to say "yes," the objective "what's fair" person in me says "no." So, I'll go with no. Sure, it's not that fun for the rest of us, but that doesn't mean UWW/MUC are any less deserving of playing for a national title. If the voters truly believe they are the two best teams, then it should be set-up so the purported two best teams meet for a national title. And it seems, thus far, those in charge of arranging the brackets have done a good job of ensuring the two best teams meet for a national title.

The "why not give the rest of us a chance" argument only goes as far as one team's ability to knock one of these squads off. If we put UWW/MUC in the same bracket, and one of those teams is still perpetually in the National Championship, then all that was really accomplished was moving the REAL National Championship up a week or two.

Linfield, Bethel, Mary Hardin Baylor, UST and Wesley have had their opportunity to knock on the door. And I suspect if someone actually knocks off UWW/MUC they will either be from within their own conference or the top tier of the MIAC, ASC, NWC or Wesley operating on their own.

In short: Rather than Teams/fans/alums/coaches/players complaining about the fact that these two teams always meet for a national title, they should be figuring out if there is any way in hell they can be beat.

Well, I finally was able to watch the game last night.  Damn, UWW is really, really good.  Not much to say that hasn't already been said.  I assume it is my purple tinted glasses, but I do think that, in alternate universe #1 where UST is able to get into the endzone on that first trip inside the 30, the game might have been close.

To me, the squad seemed to just look deflated after that.

Obviously, UWW was the better team - I'm not making any excuses.  Just thinking that an early response (which it looked like the Tommies might be able to muster) to the first touchdown might have made a psychological difference.

Oh well, there's always basketball and baseball to look forward to.

Congrats to, by far, the most successful class in UST's history.

Maybe there should be a 3rd place game.   :o

I guess at this point, "who is the 3rd best team?" might be more fun of an argument.

It's certainly a more wide open discussion the past 7 years and who knows how many years into the future.

Maybe we could call it the Apprentice Bowl and have Donald Trump referee.

UMU and UWW should just play for the national championship in September.  Everyone else should play in a tournament called the Stagg Bowl Championship in December.  That way we could get rid of the 1% entirely.

(My very late contribution to the very funny 1% talk above - I don't know if its been mentioned but, if it hasn't, the Adam Carolla OWS explitive explosion is worth a listen - NSFW).

Rocori QB Nate Meyer was talked about here a few weeks ago. He verbally committed to South Dakota State.

At least it's not Vermillion.

I heard he committed to SDSU because he wanted to play for Caruso, and heard rumors that the Jacks were in talks to get him to Brookings.  ::)

I thought I'd take a moment and offer my congrats to UST on a great season. I do wish there could have been a different shade of purple introduced at the Stagg Bowl this year.

That being said, it feels SO GOOD to root against you again. As the incumbent "dominate" football team in the MIAC, we who prefer Summit the Ale over Summit the Ave (not to mention Hamm's  and others far too numerous to mention) are looking forward to most any other program rising/returning to dominatance (??) in the conference in 2012.

Great to see all the new posters come out of the woodwork and make Post Patterns an entertaining place to keep bookmarked. It keeps me confident the right to free speech is alive and well.
If the human brain were so simple that we could fully understand it...we would be so simple that we couldn't.

I think I eluded to this last week. A good way to measure how far a program needs to go to get to the top of the mountain is to see the best up close & personal. When I saw Coppage play as a Freshman, I knew it was going to be a long four years. ;)
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

My son's 1st birthday...great.

I know it's an inconvenience, but a Johnnie victory is assured.  There is no way that the Tommies can win on the little Duffer's first birthday.

What a great place for his first birthday party...I'll bring the cake.  He can even have his first jello shot in the science lot.   :P

I watched a fair amount of the Mount Union / Wesley game.  From what I watched Wesley was better than a 7 seed.  They gave MU all they could handle.  That said this might not be one of the best Purple Raider teams...I we'll see Friday night.
