Does anyone from Bethel know how Josh Aakre is doing over in Germany?  Any updates?

The team's website is a bit difficult to navigate through google's translate tool, but in the games that they have stats posted for, he seems to be throwing or rushing for multiple TD's in each one.

Clicking on "team" on the left hand side, then "game statistics" will get you there.

Yeah, it's true. I'm brave when I know I won't get smacked.

Aren't we all  :)

It's always interesting when you meet the different people on these boards in person. Comparing how they act and talk face to face versus the relative anonymity of sitting behind a computer screen. Meeting some people in person leads to more respect, meeting others, not so much. But it's always interesting. You just develop an expectation of who someone is based on their posts and sometimes that can be totally inaccurate once you meet them.

The problem with posts, is that you don't get any voice inflection, and the fact that you don't know the person, as you stated, makes it difficult to know how far the tongue may be in the cheek, or the flippancy of the remark, or the seriousness, for that matter. I know I've been taken the wrong way more often than I care to remember. After a while, you get to know the style of the frequent posters, and have a feel for the tone they try to impart. It's tough, but, for the most part, people put their own meanings into things, rather than try to get the posters meaning. I'm as guilty as the next person, but I hope I'm "evolving." (In the parlance of our times.)

Absolutely. I feel like I'm constantly over communicating on these boards at times, simply because I know how easy it is for guys to read into written communication things I don't intend. And generally, the more sarcastic and funnier the individual, the more they'll be misunderstood. The lack of non-verbals is tough. And emoticons can obviously get overused.

Funny event tonight. The family and I are sitting down to a little Sunday night Olympics and we see the niece of two of Mrs Oz's high school friends competing in the women's modern pentathlon. My wife's friends' older brother competed in the '84 Olympics. Like father like daughter, I guess.

EDIT: And I don't know about you all, but if I don't hear the Chariots of Fire theme again until the day I die then it will still be too soon.

EDIT II: Funny moment of the evening number 2.  The girls are watching some highlights of the synchronized swimming and the Aussie team swam to an AC/DC medley.  Very entertaining watching seven, ten and 12 year-olds banging their heads to Back in Black and saying 'Dunt, da-da-dunt, da-da-dunt, da-da-da-da-da-dunt'.  Every patriotic Aussie kid needs to know the classic AC/DC riffs.  I'm pretty sure they are taught in third grade civics.

EDIT III: And as I think of AC/DC, the video for It's a Long Way to the Top gives you a nice tour of mid-70's Melbourne.  Keep driving 15 minutes straight ahead down the street shown as the video fades and you'll arrive at Casa Oz.

Most of them are sophomore, junior or seniors.   I think only three are freshman.

Eleven boys from Cali on the 2012 Johnnie Roster.  Pipeline???  ;)
They must be seeking better weather...

I assume Billy Gagliardi is a grandson?

I also didn't realize Erik Roti was headed to Collegeville.  Might have been the fastest back in the State last season.

I believe, by definition, a pipeline continues to produce.  So, 3-4 Cali boys per class seems to equate a pipeline in my eyes.  :P

I am going to take some credit. I watched a couple of Vista Murrieta games on TV in the past year or so, and when I was out in California on my January/February golf venture, we drove by Vista Murrieta High School. My aura is STRONG!!

Don't tell that to Michiganders - sometimes a pipeline just kills environments!  (An Enbridge joke, though we are still paying higher gas prices due to their oil spill that did in the Kalamazoo River, and their subsequent shutdown.)

Did you notice there's a kid from Brooklyn, New York on the squad?  Kudos to him and the California kids for coming up to SJU.  In addition there's a kid from Tennessee, Tempe AZ, Nebraska, Colorado.  Hope some of them can play!

Boys of Fall

There are also a few kids from Wisconsin on the SJU roster, isn't that the same as having kids from Germany?

From the GoJohnnies Facebook page:

The 2012 SJU football roster (as of 8/13), 194 strong, has four sets of siblings and 34 non-Minnesotans, including 11 from California.

That's roughly 23% of the team from out of state.  I wouldn't doubt that as hard as UST is recruiting that their #'s from out of state are quite high as well.
It does kind of make me chuckle when I think of all the UST players and students that grow up in St. Paul....attend Nativity Elementary, CDH and then UST.
I know that large number of SJU's players and students come from Stearns County and central Minnesota....but it's kind of crazy how many people I meet in St. Paul that have never really left Highland Park and Mac/Goveland.

For some reason I got in my head that they were all new recruits to the Johnnie program.  Not sure how I deduced that from your post but then I only have a public university education so.... ???
