As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Anybody ready yet?  There is but one solution and it is both necessary and sufficient.  The good news is UST has proven that such a necessary and sufficient solution, once executed, will produce success quickly!

<<So SJU has at least two coaches that work on recruiting (Gary Fasching and Damien Duonceaux).  On their team website SJU lists 8 assistant coaches however they only identify Gary as the recruiting coordinator.>>

If I have my facts correct, and I am pretty sure I do, prior to this season Coach Dumonceaux was a full time member of the Admissions Department; he found more than one or two players in that role!  It is only now that his focus is full time on football and I could not think of a better face for SJU football !  Not one!

Phenow's still out. Should play next week, but is he 100%? Marquardt is playing on one leg and respraining that ankle every other play. Your starting LT gets his appendix taken out. Another guy gets banged up. You have to play a TE at tackle and shuffle the entire Oline, and it was evident they were playing out of position. You lose a DB to a hip pointer today mid way through.

Oh well, at least we only have Concordia and UST coming up  :o

Time for guys to step up. This is the tough stretch of the schedule and they've gotta dig deep.

We need to treat this like a loss, take a close look at things, a la Carleton in 06 and BV in 07, and bounce back. This team has talent. But they've gotta get healthy and they've gotta overcome or figure out some deficiencies. in a hurry.

- I agree with you on this. Here's my question - Aug's O may be that good. I have to wonder about the Bethel D, though. Yes, they were on the field a very long time yesterday. I keep thinking they got caught looking at next Saturday's game instead of this game. I thought they looked kind of flat - even as the game was in the first quarter. Is that part of what you had in mind when you wrote "figure out some deficiencies. . . "?

As a follow-up, how did you find out about the OLine situation? That's the kind of news I really miss; NCAA III seems to not issue injury reports like other divisions and the pros (or at least I haven't found them.)
Better a Has-been than a Never-was. Better a Never-was than a Never-tried-to-be.

SUMMIT!!!!!

I think he's suggesting that Dumonceux takes over recruiting in a full time capacity and maybe even becomes head coach.

I think Augsburg's offense is good. I think their QB is gonna be great. We haven't seen a QB with that kind of athleticism and throwing ability combo in a long time. Probably as long as I've been associated with the league (going back to 2000). His inexperienced showed at a couple points. But he also made some outstanding plays with his legs and arms. There were a couple plays where the DB had pretty solid coverage and he just put the ball in tough spot. I was surprised by his accuracy.

I think we also had some scheme things to work out as the game went on. They did some things offensively that it took us time to adjust to. Haegge's a good offensive mind. Their may have been some looking ahead. If you blow a team out the previous year it can be a temptation to take them lightly. But this just seems to be Bethel's MO with Augsburg. The last 13-14 years we either seem to blow them out or play a surprisingly close game and pull it out in the end. Part of that has to do with the location. We've gotten them several times in the Dome, which is a weird environment. But you shouldn't be looking past an undefeated team with a dangerous QB. Live and learn.

The Oline was stuff I found out about during the game. We don't have the depth there that we've had in the past, and it showed. We need to get healthy and start to gel. Those guys being banged up, shuffled around and played out of position, plus the injury to Phenow and Marquardt were all a part of the poor showing in the run game. And Augsburg's D played us tough, no question. But this years running game just isn't as potent as it's been in the past. Our passing game is better, but that didn't show on Saturday.

Bottom line, there's plenty to work on going into a tough game against Concordia. But the team found a way to win on a day when they didn't have their best stuff. That can't be discounted. They made plays when they had to. I'll take the W and hope we can learn from a competitive game. And knowing we got the W, I'm glad it was a close. We needed a game like this. Blowouts are nice and all, but you need some tests and close games to figure out how to win when it's tight late. This is a young team, I think 7 seniors in the two deep (top 44). Not inexperienced, some of these guys have plenty of playing time under their belts. But still young.
