FYI,

It looks like both games will be on ESPN3 (the tres) this weekend!  I first saw this on St. Thomas's website and then confirmed on espn3.com!

While I know not everyone gets the channel, it's still great exposure for the school as (I believe) espn3 is free on computers on college campuses throughout the nation.

UWO is weak.  I suggest looking at film of UMU.

Thanks for the tip. Historically the WIAC has been a pretty weak conference.

Hey Pat:

It was a little hard to hear the Podcast this morning..... Would you be able to post a transcript of it for everyone?

We're aware, as you know if you heard the disclaimer or read the blog post accompanying it, but transcribing 57 minutes of audio is not something we have time to do. (Or something you likely have time to read!) Sorry.

Yep - I read the disclaimer - I also listened to you give it on the podcast - did not think it would be that bad tho- More so hoping it could have been done - I suppose the request was a bit much to ask! ;) Thanks anyway -

I guess I could do the "classy" thing if UST comes up short this weekend and just arbitrarily rip on Baldwin-Wallace and Hardin-Simmons fans. Because, you know, that would make sense.

But if DesertCat is done projecting his sour grapes on UST, I'd like to hear any UWO or Linfield fans weigh-in on what to expect from the Titans. I was battling buffering and a bad camera angle to get any real knowledge of their offense/defense.

Hey USTG bench,,  how in the world could you get ANY real knowledge ? :o  You were a kicker right  :-[?  You guys wake-up  in a different world everyday. ;D

Go TITANS..

Yeah, unfortunately. Sorry it wasn't better. Unfortunately, Keith and I work completely opposite schedules and midnight Sunday is the only time we have to do it. To start basically from scratch at 1:30 a.m. wasn't feasible.  :-\

Could you run it through a program like Audacity (free) and bump up the volume?

While it's true that we do manage to recruit some excellent players from the Chicago, Madison and Milwaukee areas I'm always amazed by those we get from some of the really small Wisconsin high schools.  Three that come to mind right away are Justin Beaver, Jace Rindhal and Adam Brandes.  All three were All Americans and came from high schools with less than 400 students.  Beaver was from Palmyra Eagle HS (336),  Rindhal was from Cambridge HS (270) and Brandes attended Burlington Catholic Central HS (141).  The current roster has starters from small schools such as Wisconsin Dells, Cambridge, Evansville, Horicon, Two Rivers and Necedah.

If UWW had recruited UST's O'Connell would UWW have been going to the Stagg bowl?

O'Connell's bio....'11 graduate of Clear Lake High, where he was class valedictorian; in football was all-state, played in Wisconsin all-star game, was four-year starter, 4X all-conference QB, 4X team MVP; broke state records for career total offense and total touchdowns; helped team win three conference titles; in basketball was all-conference, team MVP and 3X team leader in assists; in track and field was all-conference and state qualifier, and 2X team MVP... son of Penny and Paul O'Connell of Clear Lake.

And in a recent Star Trib story: "Caruso said his staff started following O'Connell during the quarterback's sophomore year at Clear Lake, making the Tommies among the first to take an interest. That helped land O'Connell, although probably not as much as meeting another small-town quarterback, Tracy, on his recruiting trip."
The last shall be first and the shall be.......

I would say sarcasm doesn't translate over the internet well, but I think if you posted regularly on our board you'd know I was being facetious just now.

Secondly, I was not a kicker (although our entire team entertained ourselves before Friday walk-throughs with some pretty horrible FG competitions). Sat in meetings with both the RBs and the WRs throughout the early 2000s, with a very voluminous George Wemeier playbook, watching tape and taking notes, practicing and playing (albeit quite sparingly, hence the "Bench" moniker). Wouldn't say I'm an elite offensive mind, but I certainly learned a lot from some guys who were.

So, that said, I think I could glean a few things from a conventional wide angle view of an offense. Maybe even a few things about a team's defense.

Bob Pagel has officially been named head coach at Carleton.  Coach Pagel was my position coach at Carleton for two years and I think this is an awesome hire for the school.  He knows the game, knows D3 and genuinely cares about the players, very excited to see how he does over the next couple years.

It seems to me Carleton has always had decent coaches, the problem seems to be the college doesn't make the same commitment to athletic success that the players and coaches do.

Not that football is a priority at an academic powerhouse like Carleton, or even the "flagship" sport (Quiz Bowl?), but hey, "Football is the hood ornament of the school" as a few ADs in the region have been known to say.
