Anyone planning to drive to Salem, you'll want to avoid I-77 in West Virginia:

http://news.yahoo.com/w-va-gas-line-explodes-burns-homes-roads-204556962.html

WV DOH are on the scene; and hope to open up I-77 tomorrow with limited traffic in both directions.

As a Johnnie alumnus, I can attest that the flames filled the skies with so much Red that it started to look like an SJU home football game.

On the OAC Pick-Em's board the line was set with St. Thomas giving 20.5.  So far, all the participants have picked Mount.  I'll be very surprised if the point differential is that large.

Given that Mount Union just beat the #2 team in the nation by 13 after turning the ball over 5 times, I'd say that spread is pretty good, trying to get action going on both sides.

EDIT- I assumed Retired Old Rat meant UST was GETTING 20.5.

Does being ranked #2 automatically make UMHB the second best team in the country? Might there be some guessing involved? I admit that the guess is based on some evidence, but when ranking teams who have no common opponents (or very few) it is still open to subjective evaluation. Even the 13 point spread is a little deceptive. St Thomas just beat the #5 team in the country by 14. That same team just beat the #3 team in the country the week before.

Let's get in realm of the real, not the theoretical.

So, because upsets occur we cannot judge teams' relative strength?  The existence of the Vegas bookie industry pretty much demonstrates that is a false premise.

You're right. We should not discuss the game prior to the kickoff. Because what would be the point of discussing something theoretically?  What is the point of this discussion at all, then?  Everything is theoretical until kickoff.

And yes, the 13 point spread is very deceptive. I don't think Mount Union is going to turn it over five times on Friday. Hence why the 20.5 is a good number.

Football Fan Charter Plans Change

Am I reading this right that U$T is only chartering one flight?  WTF?  I think SJU chartered 3-4 flights in 2003.  Don't they think more than 162 people may want to go to the game?

I would suspect that Net Jets is taking care of a large number of the elites that will be going. That and the privately owned Lears should cover at least 300. ;)
Nothing wrong with owning a Lear or Gulfstream- if you've got it,might as well get some use from it. :D

Raiders do NOT suck, but neither do the Tommies. Sorry Oz.

You gotta support your team. My bigotry is institutional, not personal. Except for the DC living, cocktail party attending, back of the tax payer breaking social circle set. And PurleReign. Otherwise, all good.

Actually, we've moved up to Champagne cocktails now that we're in the Stagg Bowl.  Which brings me to a question: Are we allowed to bring anything into the stadium?  Also, I booked at the Hotel Roanoke...anyone stayed there?  Thoughts on the place?

Good for you.  Trust me, you'll be glad you did.

I'm sure she's expecting a great Christmas present.  I only met her briefly, I thought she was cool. :)

Officially, nothing in the way of food or drink can be brought into the stadium.  But from experience I can tell you that they will check your bags, and maybe your pockets, but not your sleeves.

Thanks for the tip.  We're thinking about breaking out the Talisker 18 in a few hip flasks, but we don't want to rock the boat if that sort of thing is frowned upon.

Is that a fifth of Jack Daniels in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?

wesleydad

congrats to st thomas for making the stagg this year.  hope to see many of you there for the pregame tailgate.  i will be easy to find, the only wesley jersey hanging out with the mount union fans.  great bunch of guys, so join us to share some smack talk.  well, i just get to listen since my team has never made the stagg, but at least i get to hang with those who have won it a couple of times.  you will have a good time and the weather will be great, maybe even a little warm for you all from the great north.  see you on friday.
